Quick Study Guide: CdA

I'm super swamped in the weeks leading up to the race and won't have the usual time to go through threads, race reports, etc. 

What are the "absolutely must watch / read" resources in the EN environment for race course intel? 

I have time to ride, run and recon the course on arrival; just not a lot of 'net time these days.

  • @ Dave, there are several of us who did RR #1 in CDA and we all gave descriptions of the bike and run courses. I would head to the thread in this forum titled "CDA Race Rehearsal 1 Thread", skip past the first several posts where people talk about their plans for the RR and look for recon info.

  • Dave have you listened to the podcasts from last year?  Very good stuff.  I'm downloading again to listen over the next 2 weeks.

  • Here is my super cliff notes version for a vet such as yourself:

    Swim: 2 loop counterclockwise. ~150 yards until 2nd turn directly into the sun. Get out of water to start second loop. Water temp can range from 55-68 degrees. Hard to say, but seems to be tracking for 60ish this year. Bring everything and figure out the day before.

    Bike: 2 loops. Close to flat for ~22 miles, ~27 miles of hills, ~8 miles of flat back into town. Watch effort level on flat parts. Ride into town usually a headwind. Hills are a series of rollers with only a handful being more than 1-2min. No serious climbs like at IMC, IMSG or IMLP but the rollers can bite you in the butt if you try and jam over them and there are a few kickers where you'll probably want your lowest gear. 12-27 or 11-27 recommended for all but the strongest cyclists.

    Run: Pretty flat except for hill just before turnaround (new course got rid of the first short out and back through a neighborhood and extended the portion along lake CDA causing a bit more elevation over previous years). Not a lot of trees/shade. Bring a hat, don't skimp on the sunscreen.

    It's more like 800 meters into the wind to the first turn buoy (to the left into the sun), then 100+ meters until the next left turn, head back home, usually with the wind, rinse, repeat.
