The Challenge Challenge
I added a little extra box over to the right of the team scores in the spreadsheet to track P's ability to get people out on the road vs. my ability to stay on the road.
As of 11am PST, Patrick is ahead 23 participants vs. my 13.7 miles.
Remember, the participant count is for people who have signed up AND put up some points. And just me begging for a little sanity, if you're going to participate please put your name in the sheet by the end of Dec 26th. I need to be figuring out my attack, and if I get a New Years Eve surprise of 20 people signing up and running one mile, well, I'm just sayin'...

Day 3, and I think it's safe to lock down the numbers.
There are currently 116 people in the spreadsheet, so that's the goal for CoachP: get all those people on the road and get some points in the spreadsheet. Currently 82 people have recorded points. For comparison, last year we had 75 people sign up, and out of those 71 people posted points. So we've already crushed last year!
That means I'm on the hook for 117 miles. Right now I'm at 43.7
Mike
you are totally crazy and I love it! You win for the best picture yesterday, right??? That was awesome!
Day 6 update...
CoachP and the Team is at 96 participants who have recorded points.
We have creeped up to 120 total people who have put their name in the spreadsheet
.
As of this morning I'm at 87.9 miles. Which is awesome since tomorrow I'll pass the 100 mile mark for a week
. While the points competition doesn't really apply for me (since I've bagged my OS workouts, I'm out of the points race), I'm excited to be sitting at 99.9 points this morning!
Come on P... you can reach 100, can't you? Can you? P? Bueller? Bueller???
m
Great work M!
P
Sorry, that wasn't very clear - I'm at 99.9 points (hmmm, maybe we SHOULD have made them pints!), but only 87.9 miles so far. What frosts me is that I got home and my Garmin is say 16.4. First thought - to the end of the block and back and I'm at a nice round 16.5. No, just get in the house. Then I do the spreadsheet and I'm at double .9's. I could have been at 88miles and 100 points even
As for Western States - I didn't get in
. But, I'm OK with it. Folks say that it's "wrong" to do WS as your first 100 - and I see their point. So I'm thinking that I might go for the Headlands 100 (just north of San Francisco) in August. And I'll just keep signing up for WS, and will be better prepared for when I get my slot.
Why then, my Run Challenge madness? As Coach Rich says: "I can't fix stoopid". But he can try, like Holden Caulfield, to keep others from following in my folly: The Volume Elephant in the Room. I just wanted to do something large over the break, and was toying with the idea of a 100 miles, then CoachP somewhere wondered out loud if we could get to 100 people in the challenge, and insanity was born!
Mike
It took a week - but I caught ya! As of this morning there are 100 people officially participating (= signed up + posted points). Congratulations P and Team! Hitting 100 was the stretch goal of the challenge.
For me, I'm sitting at 103.6 miles as of this morning
.
There are currently 119 people signed up, so if all of the remaining 19 people who haven't posted points yet do so today or tomorrow, I'll need to run 16.4 miles on New Years Day to cap it off with a 1 mile cushion.
This has been a lot of fun! (in a sadistic, nap inspiring, kinda way
).
Mike
Congratulations to YOU! Nice job.
Matt
Since you're not doing WS100, come out to CO and to the Leadville 100....
