Day 7
Shocking that I am starting this off. But I am at work. Most people with normal jobs probably have the day off.
Did a quick BRick as I wanted to be home to see Max off to the airport.
Ran 1.35 at MP in 20 degrees. Not much for points, but keeps me on track for "everyday" of the challenge.

3 again this am in 7 degree, minnesota style weather! Beautiful morning with sun streaming through the trees, while listening to the crunch, crunch of the snow under my feet....now off to pick up number 4 son from swimming practice. Happy New Year Nation
No work for me! (we got a free day off in recognition of the fact that we didn't get any raises this year)
Woke up to a winter weather warning in MD and a world covered in snice (snow ice).
I ran a smidge over one mile. And by "ran" I mean that I took teeny baby steps really, really quickly....except when it came to 90 degree turns and then I had to slow waaaaay down. Then I did a few TP mile intervals. (No I didn't - can you imagine?) The whole mile took over 12 minutes.
3 pts for me today. 2 miles with 1 at TP in 38 degrees. Did the run right before the VO2 bike session. Bike session was not fun......

Got the run in early today on my day off in freezing temps once again, then a Bikram Yoga class to loosen up the back and hips from all these miles.
Did 8.6 miles today which gives me 75 for the week and 100 points. Looking at doing 1 mile tomorrow to finish the Challenge off, we'll see.

I'm staying with my "regularly scheduled program" - 15.7 miles in 2:20, no tundra. So I've booked 17.7 points today.
For the week I'm at 103.6 - glad to have passed the century mark for 7 days. This morning I was thinking that many pro marathoners do 100 every week - but with much more tempo work (and much much faster in general). No thanks!
Bob - way to go hitting 75 - that is a HUGE week.

Way to go Mike! I can't even imagine being able to do that as much as I would like to.
My Mom's old treadmill took it's toll on my chronically cranky hip last weekend and so I pulled the plug all week in favor of staying sound
It's been really fun to see the miles being put up!
Good job this week Mike! I snuck into the gym this morning at 4am and ran a quick 2 on the treadmill after my bike ride on the trainer this morning to keep the week going. Knew that I wouldn't make it this morning, closing the books for the year so I will be at the store until 8 or 9! One day left everyone!
Holy cow, Mike! That's some serious mileage.
Suzanne: For icy pavement and trails, I screw #8 x 1/2 inch sheet metal screws into the soles of my running shoes. The hexagonal ones work best and the #8 screws take a 1/4 inch driver. About 12 screws per shoe works well for me.
It's 33 degrees here---a heat wave! I'm gonna wait for it to get a bit colder for that extra point.

I've never run this many miles in a week.
After a thrilling ILLINI WIN in overtime at the Assembly Hall last night I was pumped to kick in a few more miles after driving home from Champaign today. After 16 hours rest I felt much better and ready to hit the TP intervals again. I discovered my foot was bleeding because I DID NOT wear my Vibrams for my Wed a.m. workout- 2 toes were rubbing together.
Switched back to the Vibrams today and got in 9 miles with 7 at TP- no bleeding, no foot pain just really tired hip flexors.
For the 7 days- 65 miles with 40.5 miles at tempo pace. I hope to never do >40 miles TP in a week again. Total points now sit at 107.4.
I'm amazed that Mike H is over 100 miles for the 7 days and congrats to everyone who's been plugging away daily.
I agree with Bob A. that maybe tomorrow should be a recovery day with just enough mileage to snag that final 5 pts- finally.....

John - over 40 miles at tempo pace is incredible – Great job.
I transitioned from today’s bike work out to the treadmill. I managed to get 10 miles in with 2 at TP. The legs were feeling the effects of the bike work out and the 14 miles yesterday. All in all the legs are doing better than I expected this week. Time for some great beer and pizza!

OK..so, did 5.75 miles today. I went out before it started snowing and ran through downtown Rockland, Me and down to the breakwater. The breakwater is HUGE chunks of granite that has wide gaps at some points and was beginning to frost over. About 1/2 way out, it began to snow. It's a 7/8 mile distance and I ran VERY slowly and tried to avoid the creeper looking guy coming back from the lighthouse.
Thankfully at about the time it was really snowing I was hoping someone would get worried and come get me and sure enough, my dependable mother in law and sister in law along with my oldest daughter came driving up to fetch me. They were concerned about me being out on the breakwater but it was really fun!
I got really cool pictures but I don't know how to upload them to here so....oh well....

Hey, if the toes cause you grief when out of the VFF, try some Injini toe socks - I LOVE them, especially for long trail runs where there can be a lot of friction.

Staying steady with another hour run (6.8 mi) including 3 mi at TP. 50 degrees and drizzle; felt surprisingly good. Plan to try and finish up with an easy 2 hours tomorrow. Jan OS starts Monday. 2010, the year of EN
Wow. 40 at tempo. I'd be happy with 40 slow.
Its impressive how many miles everyone has put in this week. The shoe company's probably love when we do weeks like this!
I did and easy 4 today. Hopefully another long run to finish things out on Friday.
Here was my running partner for this run... 5 Month old Bryce. He actually stayed awake the whole time.

I've got the Injinji's and have used them inside the VFFs when it's colder out. I bet they'd help in the racing flats if the toe abrasion problem shows up again.
