For Those Riding the Course on Saturday ... and other construction notes

Not sure if anyone will see this that's riding the course tomorrow (Saturday) .... but hope you can benefit from my experience

Gravel has recently (probably in the last week) been applied to Hwy J so there are NO markings to direct you to turn left on Garfoot.  Turn left on Garfoot - do NOT go down the hill on J and just keep going ... good thing my sis was following me and we both had our cell phones with us!!

Also, looks like they are done with the construction through Verona ... Yay!  And, John Nolen is closed this weekend at Olin.  If you are coming for the swim and planned to come on John Nolen, you'll be re-routed on Olin to Park St-take a right.  From Park, right on West Washington, Right on Proudfit which turns into North Shore, which takes you to John Nolen - take a left.

Finally, it was hot today... 4:30 today during the run it was 93 degrees (according to the sign at the Alliant Energy Center) - the crack weatherman was calling for low 80's a few days ago. Yup, that's what I looked like when finished.

Hope to see a few of you tomorrow!

  • Thanks for the info!

The detour you have for John Nolen is for cars, not bikes, correct? It looked from reading that the bike detour is minimal...right?

When we rode the course last Friday I noticed the gravel and missing arrow for Garfoot. Had hoped it would be remarked by now. Good thing I recognized the road name....

And that verona road construction sucked!

Tomorrow's high is in the 70's. Hope they don't lie again. Hope the thunderstorms stay away, at least during the swim.
  • Hi Daniela, There is an area where you have to walk your bike if you follow John Nolan all the way out to Rimrock.
