Home 2009 Holiday Run Challenge

My gift to you!

To everyone who participated in the 2009 Run Challenge, thanks for the (s)miles!!

We ended up with 106 people posting up points in the spreadsheet - a fantastic turnout.  Great job by Patrick getting out the peeps.

And a special thanks to you all who supported me and encouraged me during the challenge.  I threw down vs P and the team, and I then really needed your support to keep up with my end of the deal.

On the last day I needed to run a bit more than 16 miles just in case everyone in the sheet recorded a point, and here's how I did it:

I hope you enjoy it!

  • Mike, that is AWESOME!  8 days 120 miles, very impressive.  Thanks for getting and keeping the mojo flowing around here with the challenge!

  •  Thanks Mike- that was just awesome!  First- I cant' beleive you ran around your block that many times- that's just nuts!  But my favorite part was hearing the kids yell for you "HI DAD!!!!!!!" and the their shout out to EN!  Totally cool.

  •  Mike-

Totally fun to watch that video and an amazing feat on your part! Thank you so much for keeping the challenge week interesting.

  • Impressive running---a real inspiration...
    Thank YOU, Mike!
  • Thank you Mike for the video and the inspiration. I really enoyed the video it was a great idea. Very impressive run.

    Happy New Year!
  • Really great, Mike! Thanks for laying down the challenge and motivating us to get out the door.

  • @Nemo - It's a little blurry ('cause I run so fast), but at 1:25 in the vid I throw down a Nemo-style EN gang sign!

In case you were wondering - it was almost exactly .5 miles around the block, so I figure I did somewhere around 33 laps or so.

Love it!!!  See, the one handed Gang Sign has it's place!

  • Great Stuff Mike thanks!
  • That was just GREAT!!! Added the song to my iPod, and no doubt I'll channel you every time I hear it out running. I can't believe you rant that much! Hard core.

Happy New Year, Mike. Looking forward to sharing another great year with you here!

  • That was just freaking awesome!! This is what I love about the Nation. Lots of wicked fitness, and always fun and games! You made me laugh more than once! Congrats on meeting your challenge goal and for setting the tone for a phenomenal 2010 for all of us!!
  •  Awesome Mike! Thanks to you and everyone who participated in making my first "challenge" with EN so much fun. I didn't know that there would be gang signs involved but what the heck... Nemo, you have newbie instructions for that?

  •  LOL

Thanks Nemo! I'll practice (but without a cat... I don't think either of mine are that patient)

  • Mike - You are an inspiration and you'll be the first recipient of our 2009 Run Challenge Shirt (Our Gift to YOU!) -- your call on long or short sleeve -- for such dominance. Shirts coming for other winners and on sale if you just want one... Congrats again to everyone!

  • This is such a funny video.  I loved it.  The funniest part was the neighbor across the street.....I wondered too what the other neighbors were thinking everytime you went past their house.

    Good job you!

  • Congrats Mike! Very inspiring and motivating!
  • Not sure which I would rather do less, the mileage or running around the block so many times. Regardless...very studly!
  • Mike, you're awesome and so was the video. I loved the wave to the neighbor and the point when you asked the dog to say hi to the camera and s/he was all, "Whatever, which direction are we heading in?" And I saw the gang sign!
  • Great video. Loved the kids and neighbor!

  • My 2010 mantra is going to be - "I Wanna Be Like Mike"!

It was so much fun following along and like so many others have said - such an inspiration!

    Thank you image
  • Thanks Mike for the run challenge and the video!!  Congrats on 120 miles, you are an inspiration!

  • Congrats Mike! Thanks for the inspiration to end 2009 AND to start 2010!

Great video - I loved the timing of "I forgot my water bottle, again" with Fergie's lyrics of "DRANK". Good stuff!

My favorite part is the kids talking a mile-a-minute, and yelling "DAAAAAAAD" as you take off again. It's exactly what my kids do just before I climb on my bike in the pain cave. Try to get out everything that needs to be said, as my kids say "before Daddy starts sweating, blowing his nose, and can't talk anymore."

  • I was half expecting a neighbor to be caught doing something he/she wasn't supposed to be doing (ex, pulling a dead body out of the house and loading it in the truck, LOL).
  • You da MAN! Great video, great challenge. Really excited about my first year with EN with folks like you.
