Week 1 Run Thread

Not sure if we are doing weekly bike/run threads this year but figured I'd start one to keep the discuss thread clean.

Did the 5k test this AM and I am off about 2 minutes from my last test back in September.  Definitely feeling some lingering fatigue in the legs from IMFL.   Today's test time was 25:37 and VDot of 37.  Looking back though I am really encouraged to be starting this year way ahead of where I was at the same time last year when I was first starting with EN.  My Outseason started last year with a 5k time of 30:03 and a VDot of 30.  Definitely starting from a better place this year!

  • Nice work Dusty! This is my first OS and did my run test on the track tonight. I gradually built my pace each mile and I didn't have anything left at the end so I know I paced it right. The good news...I have not lost any run fitness since IMC. The bad news...my run felt better than the numbers ended up telling me. I'll take it as a win and will use it as motivation to make the most of every workout until the next test. Glad we're doing this during the holidays to stay focused and active!
  • Great job! I suck at pacing, I always start to hard and blow up. On the next test that is going to be my #1 focus!

  • I was very happy with this week's run test. Only ran 3 times in last 6 weeks following my last A race (Austin 70.3). Current 5K time is only 3sec/mile slower than my last test in late Sep (averaged about 6:35/mile). I'm running as fast as I have in years. I'm going to put a goal out there for the record (keep me honest)...want to break 6:00/mile in my 5K before this OS is done. Haven't run that fast since bootcamp when I was 18.
  • well here goes nothing...i will do my run test this am 30 deg in vegas. Havent really put any running in for quite some time so should be interesting//last years vdot was 43-44 and i am hoping to squeez out around a 37-38 to start ...sucks to get old
  • Jingle Bell Jog 5K in 20:49. Advertised as a 3.2 mile 5K and it was... I am still not sure that those who put on the race understand their error, but I am appreciative of their efforts to put on a race in our hometown. Incidentally my 14 yo daughter won and got the tallest trophy ever. She was pretty proud. VDOT 48.9.
  • Well completed run test yesterday very hard since i really only have 20 miles logged for the last 5 months but happy with my time of 25:05 not a disaster considering..vdot 38..now i have my base for both bike and run training..looking to get to 46-47 on the vdot and 220 watts on the bike before CDA in june...welcome to the party pal
  • nice work James! I can dream of a vdot of 46-47!
