  • I wasn’t aware of the future new pool. My mom, who still lives in Ames, usually keeps me up-to-date on stuff like that. Is it a replacement for the high school pool? Will it be on the high school campus? When do they hope to have it done?

The new rec center on campus has a pool, too, right? I need to check it out, too.
  • Ah love the thread, and a official congrats on the victory!

I'd knock your start more if I hadn't knocked my goggles off half a dozen times learning to start myself. I did a masters swim meet ~2 years or so back just for fun, despite being a horrible swimmer now but especially then. Watching the video reminds me it all was really a lot of fun, but also a whole lot of work. Swimming is something else.
  • Good times! never race him again....
  • @Daniela The new ISU rec center has a rec pool...very hard to do any serious swimming there. It' s a play pool. (Although see an earlier post of mine called something like "The world's best race rehearsal swim" for an amusing take on that.) The actual and theoretical time frame are different. The current pool at Ames High is owned by the City of Ames. Long story short: the rest of the constituents besides Parks and Rec that use that pool are not very happy with the arrangement. In the recently passed school district bonds, plans were embedded for a new indoor pool that I am told will be LCM by SCY and owned entirely by the school district. The school district (read High School) wants good varsity swimmers and will therefore be much more generous to the local swim club with time...plus won't have to compete with P&R for time. I believe the location is where the softball fields currently are, adjacent to the "old" pool.

@Dino--- the only way I would is if I thought I had a shot at sub-30 or its equivalent at LCM. The meet in 6 months will be LCM, so no fuss about that whole flip turn thing. :-)
  • @ William. Here's a swim time converter. I am not convinced that it's accurate for all speeds and distances, but in the 1:05-1:20 per 100 yards range, it seems about right.

  • Yup. Since my kids swim, I know about these...and have that one bookmarked.
  • CONGRATS!!

Glad to see I was wrong...but I guarantee I'll only be wrong for another couple months...then he'll kick your ass

So, yeah, don't ever race him again

  • Congrats! I used to beat Dylan at distance, but as a 13 yr old he is kicking my ass.
  • I know... my daughter (his twin sister) did a 21:31 for 1500 LCM. That's the first part of an Olympic...and while I haven't swum one of those for a couple years...that's several minutes better than I do in a wet suit.... Oh well.
