Official Bike Porn Thread

Nothing I like more than Bike Porn.  For some reason, I love to check out bikes, things people have done to them, how the vintage bikes wear and what customization ideas I can steal.  They can be just such compelling machines to stare at.

It does not need to be a high end bike, but there are points for nice pics.  No points for posts without pics unless you are giving props.  Also, don't be too cool for school and say you dont have any good pics.  We are not talking about wetsuits and running shoes.  These are bikes we are discussing!

You ride it, this is the place to rock it!  Let's see your dream machine....

  • To get the bike rolling, I will start with a love letter to my baby - Colnago C59. I am especially proud of this ride because I built it. I started with the frame and then made all the choices myself. Best part was scouring the interwebs for the best price on each piece. This build was a bit over the top, but supports my belief that I am a roadie at heart that runs well.... for a roadie...

  • Dino... I think you are John's long lost twin. I give it less than 24 hrs. and he will have pics up. I joke that when we walk through transition it's like he's looking through a Terminator lens that zooms in on each bike, each component and little flashing numbers line up along the side calculating what the bike would "trade" for (in his lingo). Love yours - that gunmetal color scheme is my favorite (figures a chick would see a bike like that and comment on the color, huh? ;-)
  • Nice build! It's insanely satisfying to build a bike part-by-part. And damn, those are some nice parts.
  • AWESOME! I just bought a frame last night to build a road bike (my first build) over the winter. I can't wait to post pics of her!
  •  I think I just drooled on my keyboard a little bit. Nice Dino!

  • I am trying something new for my broken collar bone. It's called "retail therapy". Very cutting edge. I am told it is big in Europe.

Step 1 - New wheel bling! ZIPP 202 clinchers with white laces and white DT Swiss ceramic bearing hubs.

The plan is to rock these on a new roadie I am building for Q1 as well as you them in the rotation on other bikes.. I have my other repaired Colnago C59 frame back from Calfee and I am going to have it custom painted to represent my beverage brand, Aloe Gloe. You can see our logo below in my signature line. You can click on it to see our site. The colors are white and green and will match the kits I ordered from Champion Systems. I think it should turn out pretty sweet!

Here is the before of the frame. I will post the after in white and green, well, after....

  • Dino, in spirit of your bike page forum I will try to fire this forum up with some spice.  Here is a couple pics of my ride.  Enjoy!

    Thanks

  • Heres another one working at work.  When on shift I set up in my bunk.

  • So sweet! This is what I was talking about!

Greg - I love the ZIPP cockpit and Cobb seat. That is the same combo I run on my P3

Jamie - You are correct! Specialized has such sexy, curvy lines!

Cheers boys! Who is up next?
  • I'll get some better ones of my P5 with her dance clothes on next week before my first race...   but in the meantime, this was from the first day I picked her up at the shop. (Dino, note the proper crank placement and chain on the big ring)

And here's one of my dirty girls that isn't meant to be all cleaned up...

  • I don't love my bikes this much...

  • hahaha! That was a surprise!

  • Withrow - Props on the crank and chain placement. Well played, sir. But, I am still struggling with the training wheel. No photos of mine without her racing shoes. I need to update next week with disk cover and race gear..... image
  • For those who like older Italian ladies....

Let's take a trip back the 90's when steel was real.  I bought this a couple months ago during an "Italian period" I was going through.  While she is not old enough to be a classic, almost 20 years, I think this bike is great example of how bikes used to be made.  She is a little heavy based on toady's standards, but very fun to ride.  She tracks well, corners great rolls along nice and smooth and even shifts really well.

I sometimes calls this "The Dead Man's Bike".  I bought from a women in her 40's.  The bike was owned by her uncle and she was selling his Colonago collection.  The guy was a real collector.  He had 7 great examples of Ernesto's work.  By the time I got there, a couple were already gone, but as fan of the Mapei team, I think I got the best one.  Lucky for her, and fortunately for me, someone knowledgeable had schooled her on their worth.  Unlike my poor wife, who lives under the assumption that bikes cost far less then they actually do.

I love all the details and small "clubs" logos throughout.

The details on this bike are just cool.  It sounds cliche, but they just make them like this anymore.

  • Gotta have some "girly-bike" representation!  Here's my sidekick in cycling, Candy.  (Approporiate name for a pink Cannondale, no?)  2008 Synapse I bought new in 2010 and got a good deal!  She's modified for tris but a roadie at heart.  She's very fast so it is quite unfortunate her rider is slow!

  • Dino, first off, nothing is going to top that Colnago. That is one freaking well built bike.

As for me, this baby is not fully decked out yet but I literally just got the build together an hour ago, so I present my newest project, superbike on a budget, cobbled together from a new (used) frameset and parts stolen from my other bikes:

  • @Dino- that Colnago should be hanging on the wall in your living room like a fine piece of art.
@Kim- she is pretty... But she clashes with the color of your walls.
    @Jamie- the Venge is wicked...
@Trevor-- that P4 just screams fast... And I know it also has a BIG engine...
  • Oh man I L*O*V*E bike PORN

I'll start with my TT bike - Scott Plasma Ltd. fully Ultegra loaded except the crank which is a SRAM S900 including my Power2Max powermeter.

Need to mention that I did never ride a single meter with that setup ... wheels are still brand-new ..

  • Not really in the same class as some of the excellent machines in this thread, but here she is:

2012 Argon -18 e112.  Ultegra.  Powertap rear hub. New vflow plus saddle.

  • I like the edged design of Argon 18 and that color scheme is really beautyful .... but wait ... do my sore eyes really see some dirt right there on your crank?? image

  • Dang.  You're right!  I just got home from today's ride and the sun was just right so I snapped a couple of shots without really cleaning her up.  Probably a travesty in the bike porn world.  At least I removed the water bottle and seat bag for the picture

  • Satish-- Besides my bikes of course, those Argon 18's have always been one of my favorite bikes!
  • Satish, you get bonus points for Canadian Content.
  • I this thread!

@Kim - Way to go! I love those colors. Great to see the ladies checking in!

@ Trevor - That bike looks SICK. I never thought the P4 got it's due. It's such strong proposition. Your's immaculately put together and very fast!

@Stephan - That Scott Plasma is awesome. When I did my pre-buy fit for my P5, the Scott Plasma was a was among the top three bikes recommended by my fitter. Plus, you get bonus points for the awesome photos. I love the multiple angles!

@Satish - The Argon 18 is such a great ride. I love the styling on that bike. A great training partner of mine ride one and I have always admired his.

  • Hey Dino - I really love your Colnago! How much does it weight ready-to-ride (incl. pedals)?

I really need to do some nice shots from my almost new (1x ridden) road-queen. I've some real BAD hills down here and all of them are crying after her image
  • Thanks, man! Ready to ride, with pedals and SRM, etc (no bottles) it's 15. pounds. The frame by itself is about a kilo.
  • I've been riding the same Specialized Tarmac Expert frame since 2006, and it's been awesome.

Someone from my local roadie group had to post he's selling his SL3 S-Works frame, so I HAD to look.

And now it's in my hot little hands! Gonna switch over all the components and gruppo from my Tarmac and keep it is as a backup.

    Gotta love new toys/bling!

  • My P5 all dressed up for her first dance of the yr tomorrow:

And Jess' Steed ready to rock:

Ad while I was at it, I took about 65 other detailed pics which would make this thread unreadable, so if you want to see more Bike Porn with these two lovely ladies, click here to view the whole gallery: http://tinyurl.com/c4tmeht
