Ottawa peeps NOS,JOS, and those in Progress
Just checking in to see where you guy's are in your trg plans. S & B will be starting JOS but we are looking at doing our Bike, run testing en mass. We have a flat 5km run route site. Do we think we can get together over the holidays. I am off from 22 nd - 1 Jan. Also our pain cave fits alot of bikes and is good motivation to max out your testing with friends and food to follow! Any input would be greatly received!

According to my plan the run test would take place on Wednesday Dec 19th but I can easily move things around to do it that weekend instead (i.e. Dec 22nd). Not sure if the other OSC members who are in the NOS also have a run test or not.
Bike test will take place on Monday Dec 17th.
More than anything, I would really like to do the run test with other people so I can push myself and hopefully improve my Vdot. Tunney's Pasture or the Expmt Farm would be great locations for me (i.e. accessible sans auto). Let me know!
For the run test, I much prefer to do mine on a treadmill at the gym during the winter months. But you guys who want to go outdoors, knock yourselves out! I'd be happy to volunteer as timekeeper, split-taker and/or hot-chocolate-bringer.
If I were going to do an outdoor run test, Tunney's or Experimental Farm would be my locations of choice as well. Flat, usually well plowed and minimal traffic.
Well well well so we have some NOS amoungst us, nice! The goal here is to get a good amount of OSC to do some group testing to get us all motivated. I think the week of xmas keeps popping up. I know some of you may be travelling at this time no problem. So area's to run in r in the east the NCC at Rockcliffe(Delaney territory). I like her area it is a nice circuit. Tunney's Pasture for the central located(Have used this circuit in the past for Boston trg).we have an out and back here we use at the airport(down and dirty). What do we have in the West end. That is a question for Mike McMahon.
So thats the run testing now for those and biking. The Ross household can hold a crap load of bikes trainers and computers. That is my only suggestion, timing let see if we can figure that out. Oh yah did I say there is also food and fun!!! lol! For those who do not have a vehicle we can get you here, no issues!
So what do u all think!
So here we have Ross x 2, Pilon x 2,. Tom K x 1 in the JOS
So we have Brent, Trevor, and Naomi in NOS
Refresh my memory where all of you are at!
With regards to the run test next week, can we figure something out? It's scheduled for the 19th but I would be willing to adjust my schedule to do the test on Saturday Dec 22nd instead. Any interested parties are welcome to join, whatever day we elect to do it on.
Sounds like I may be the only one who actually needs to be paced (pushed) for the test - I can't do it on my own!!!!
A group run test might be interesting. I'm off from Dec 17th through Jan 2.
So here we have Ross x 2, Pilon x 2,. Tom K x 1 in the JOS
So we have Brent, Trevor, and Naomi in NOS
Mike Mcmahon is in JOS as well
Nicole Delaney I believe is also JOS
Now time to figure out a mass 5 Km TT for us all!
Here is what I propose since I do need to do a run test next week. Like I said in an earlier post, doing a test in the dark (i.e. Wednesday night when it is scheduled) is less than ideal and I would like to propose that we do it on Saturday, 22 December instead.
If we do it at Tunney's Pasture (close to my place) I can sweeten the deal by offering hot chocolate and gluten-free/vegan scones afterwards. Sounds like a bribe, doesn't it?
So, let's say 22 December @ 10am. Tunney's Pasture. Any takers?
@NG I second that motion love food bribes, let's run it by the group. Group do you like this idea of the 22nd. I can use this as my marker and retest again after in 2 weeks. NG do you have a legal 5 km route marked out and is it traffic free and no concrete to run on!
Bring your Garmins to ensure a precise 5km - who's in?
Thanks.
Mike.
Sorry for the delayed response. Having serious motivation issues...maybe a group run test is just what the doctor ordered?! Will have to confirm a sitter for 10am Dec 22...but I think it should work for both Brent and I. Any ideas for dates for the Bike test?
Hey everyone,
I can no longer do the 22nd due to a family committment, but you guys go ahead without me. I wasn't planning on doing the run (doing my test indoors). I was only hoping to tag along so I could sample Naomi's hot chocolate and scones.
Pitter patter lets get at er.Time to get some major honey badger mojo going. Time to put the hammer down and focus on the IM prize!! Be there be square 1000 am Saturday where the NOS clash with the JOS this will be epic(coach P saying) BOOM. BOOM, KA BOOM!!!!(Honey Badger).Let the cards fall where they may!!!
So Sat 1000 hrs as per Naomi's post below for time and route. So we have Brenda , Steve, Brent, Nat, Trevor, Tom, Mike M ? and Naomi. Let the games begin! If this falls through we will be in the pain cave skyping a ride with the Wisconsin crew and the Honey Badger( too cool) himself and other peeps!
Bring your Garmins to ensure a precise 5km - who's in?
I'll have the scones and hot chocolate ready to go once we're done. It's just a short scoot over to my building from Tunney's.
@Brent E. There will be other opportunities for scones in 2013
Good luck on Saturday everyone! I hope the weather cooperates.
I went ahead with my own bike/run testing this week because my holidays are jam packed with events...(that's what happens when both you and your wife's parents are split...Christmas x4!) Oh yeah and throw in a New Year's Eve wedding for good measure.
My tests went really well. 8% boost in FTP and shaved 30" off my 5k time.
Folks, my wife just picked up 2 shifts at the hospital this weekend so I am going to be challenged making it for 10 am as I have to stay at home until my daughter's tutor arrives, which is typically between 9:30-10:00.
Don't want to change everyone's time...but wanted to let everyone know.
T.
