Kickr
Anyone per-ordering a Wahoo Kickr? I think I am because I'll be doing about 90% of all biking indoors. And everyone here has said to not bother with a Computrainer, so the Kickr it is!

Wow, this thing looks awesome! I don't really need a trainer riding in SoCal (and I already have a fluid trainer), BUT I WANT ONE!!!
Ooooo- that sounds great! I was going to order on twohubs.com, but I'd love a 10% discount! I emailed Wahoo to see if I could preorder through them- hoping I'd receive it quicker if it came straight from them. Twohubs says it ships the first week of Feb. Also do ya'll know if I can use the Kickr if I only have an iPhone 4 and an ipad 2? I emailed Wahoo about that too. DC rainmaker's review said the Wahoo key would be needed but I want to be sure before I lay down the $ for the Kickr. Thanks!

I actually spoke to this company quite a bit and they claim that they placed a big order with Wahoo Fitness and guarantee they they will ship units as soon as they are available from Wahoo.
As a bonus, use the coupon code "dcrsave10" and get 10% off the trainer and anything else in the store...
Very cool! Thanks for bird dogging this Dino! Pre-order placed....
I will wait to see how they work for you guys.
Or until one of our Computrainers blows up. Or if I get tired of blowing out trainer tires.
Anson,
Do you still manage to get your mid-week bike workouts done outdoors, even during the winter?
Living in SoCal as well I certainly could get most all of my workouts in outside as well if my schedule allowed it, but daylight is still a big limiting factor. It's dark by the time I leave work and frankly still too dark and cold (40s) for me to be very motivated to ride outside in the morning.
Given that I brought a CT with me when I moved out from the midwest, I still make quite good use of it, I do all of my week-day OS workouts on it, and even use it sometimes over the summer when schedule or weather simply don't permit an outdoor ride.
I generally don't find trainer workouts particularly enjoyable, but they definitely are cost-effective in terms of time management, nothing can top simply hopping on the trainer and being wheels rolling—and having a high quality trainer makes them a lot more bearable and viable of an option.
All that said, I’ve been threatening to sell my CT and get a KICKR nearly since the day I first heard about it. Now comes the decision to actually follow through or wait it out the often tenuous early-adopter period.
"We would like to provide you an update on a recent purchase you made for the Wahoo KickR. Due to manufacturing issues, there has been a delay placed on shipments of these products from overseas. The manufacturer provided us with an expected delivery date of the beginning of March, which would therefore place the products in your hands by the middle of the month. We are very sorry for the inconvenience and the significant changes this may have made to your training plans as winter comes to an end. If you would like to keep your name on the list to receive the product, you do not need to take action. If you would like to remove your name from the list, and receive a full refund, please email sales@clevertraning.com or reply to this email."
Wahooligans,
We have a date! We just received confirmation that the first shipment of Wahoo KICKR Power Trainers have been loaded onto a boat, that is now on the Pacific Ocean coming to America. We will be shipping KICKRs from our warehouse to your front door on or before the week of March 4th.
Thanks for hanging with us over the past couple of months. We've been excited about this product for a long time (over two years!) and we know you've all been eagerly awaiting its arrival as well. Our goal with the KICKR is to provide you with an unmatched indoor training experience with accurate power, realistic road feel, and an open software platform. It's worth the wait.
Reserve on Tuesday!
We will be accepting KICKR reservations starting January 29th, 2012 at 12pm (noon) Eastern Time on a first come, first serve basis. At that time you can head over to www.wahoofitness.com/KICKR and put in your information to reserve your KICKR. We will keep an ordered list of reservations and contact you starting in mid-to-late February to collect payment and provide a shipping date. Be sure to head to the KICKR reservation page at noon next Tuesday to make your reservation - we only have a limited supply so if you want to be part of this first delivery, you will have to get there early!
All the fine print:
Pricing:
The KICKR retails for $1099 USD. The price went up slightly from what was previously announced due to unforeseen manufacturing changes over the past 60 days. As you know, we've been hard at work testing KICKR to make sure the power measurement is accurate and the resistance feels great. We had to make some tweaks to the power measurement and electronics so that we were happy with the product. We know we sound like perfectionists, but at our price and with our target market, it needs to be perfect. For a state-of-the-art trainer PLUS an accurate power meter we feel $1099 is a great value.
Payment:
We are only taking reservations, and not credit card information, at this time. We don't believe in collecting payment in advance for a product that isn't on the way to your front door. While we are confident in our date, a boat can sink or a train can derail and burn (it's happened to us). When the KICKRs arrive in our warehouse, we will ask for your payment information and send you a confirmed ship date. We will fulfill reservations in the order in which they are received. Payment can be made via credit card and PayPal.
Status updates:
Once you place a reservation, we promise to keep you up to date on progress and timing of delivery. After we understand demand based on reservations and our wholesale pre-orders, each order will be assigned a batch. Over the next two months, we have several containers of KICKRs arriving into our warehouse. We've planned for three batches of deliveries - late February, mid March, and mid April. Wahoo will assign you a batch number based on the date of your reservation.
International orders:
In the short term, we cannot offer international shipping on the KICKR. We don't have the ability to support KICKRs if you are outside North America at this time. In the long term, we will have distribution in Europe and other parts of the world- so stay tuned!
Thank you for your continued support!

This is a red flag for those who feel waiting for the initial bugs to be ironed out of any new product is prudent:
"...unforeseen manufacturing changes over the past 60 days. As you know, we've been hard at work testing KICKR to make sure the power measurement is accurate and the resistance feels great. We had to make some tweaks to the power measurement and electronics so that we were happy with the product..."
Even the most experienced tech companies (e.g., Apple and iOS 6/maps) have hiccups when introducing new products. Early adopters may hit the jackpot, or they may be disgruntled unwilling beta testers. Caveat Emptor.
This sounds good but I'd also agree with Al.
For example: I recieved one of the first Garmin 910xt's and was pumped to get it so early (before the US release date). In the first 4months I'd spent close to a dozen hours on tech support and had 2 units returned due to malfunctioning. 5 Months later on my 3rd unit I haven't looked back and it has served me exceptionally well. My claim to fame is that I detected 2 major problems with the 910 and actually spoke with the man at Garmin who designed it... : )
Me Lesson... NEVER buy a first generation tech gadget!
A watch is a lot easier to return than a trainer.
My 2 cents!

I ordered a Wahoo Kickr today from Clever Training and used DC Rainmaker's discount.
I ditched the trainer a couple of years ago and bought a Cyclops Indoor Cycle. That thing has been great but I'm missing out on all of the programmable workouts and virtual training stuff. I want that!
DC Rainmaker has posted a full review of the Kickr.
It's going to be on!!!
Just in time for Summer, now that I am riding outside three times a week!
