I'm enjoying my first OS. I've stuck to the volume and changed from intermediate to advanced plan to work a little harder while my weather just like Paul's allows us to when it won't in a month or two. About the only part I'm running harder/faster is on the mile repeats. In two weeks I'll see what the new test brings. I'm supposed to switch to HIM plan after week 8, so I've been running my repeats at about 7:10-7:25 instead of 7:53 and everything feels great. If I was doing all 14 weeks of OS, I think I'd run closer to tested values. I've wondered if I should stay in the OS a little longer, just hit the numbers right on while adding just enough swimming to still be ready for a HIM in May? I'm not too worried about my swimming even for my NO70.3 relay with my wife since she is doing the run part. I'm enjoying the training and haven't paid for any races yet, so I could change my mind and do several HIM races without an IM? I guess I should make up my mind.
@Fred, not that you asked me, but yes the more OS you can do the better. Under Wiki / Self Coaching / OS, you can find the Swim Hack and use that to add swims on Mon / Fri of the "final" 6 weeks of your OS plan....that should do it!!! Remember inside EN we want you to go as short as you can, as hard as you can, for as long as that's possible...before we need to bump up the volume.
I posted about this on the dashboard last week because I kept reading about the crazy workouts that everyone else was doing. I'm a newbie to EN and could not figure out what everyone was writing about! Am I not doing enough? Several people responded (thank you!) telling me to stay focused on MY training plan. Important reminder!
Anna, don't thing that 'everyone' is doing crazy work. What you are seeing on the dash board is merely those that chose to post their workouts for motivational reasons. I believe that there are a LOT more folks out there staying closer to what RnP have included in the plans. Note that I'm not judging either group, we're all self-coached at the end of the day, I'm just pointing out that if the number of folks in the Haus are what I believe they are, there are tons of folks that don't post at all. What you are not seeing is their volume/intensity/daily routine. So don't think that EVERYONE puts up the work that you see on the dashboard.
At the end of the day, I think (based on my expansive n=1 control group) you'll do just fine following the plan that you have chosen to do and adjusting as you / your body tell you. Good luck.
@Anna Johnson, yes alot of written accomplishments do take place but as RE say's stick with your plan and goals. As a new person in the haus make time as a workout to read and digest from all the resources with what this group offers. From the wiki, podcasts, the recorded webinars, it will be more of a benefit right now than 15 minutes more on the bike or run. Mental smarts go along way in your training journey. Again my $ .02 worth!
As a newbie to EN (and basically triathlons), I've put 100% trust in RnP. I did the NOS exactly as written, and only bagged one workout halfway through. It was hard enough to get through the 14 weeks without adding anything more to it. I figure if Im paying this kind of money to be coached, then I'll do what I'm told. So far, so good.
