  • I really like reading everyone's posts. It helps me remember I am not alone.

Today was a great ride. Not sure why, just feeling strong. I am looking forward to Monday's test, and an indoor Time Trial on March 10th as a bonus test.

  • Hey guys and gals I need input. Last week I did the 2x20s at my target threshold of 215 for the first one and it seemed so easy I bumped the second 20 up to 225 and it felt great. I was pumped up going into my new test which I did today since I'm going out of town. Yesterday I took off so I would be ready. From the warm up I felt week I rode the first 10 min at 216 and gradually picked up my power and finished with a 225 after the math. Should I just write it off as a bad day or should I retest next tuesday when I get back in town. I'll take any and all help this is the first time I've felt week on the bike in the OS. My cadence was about 103 average too high maybe?

  • I'll chime in- chalk it up to a bad test. Although I hate to use the word "bad". That was a solid workout. Go enjoy your vacation and give it a try the week you get back. Maybe not your first bike workout back but that week.
  • This is my weekend to work and my workouts are all whacked trying to squeeze it in. I swam and ran yesterday then today tried to do the sat bike. Had just no go go juice at all. Rode 40 min and got in the shower and headed to work. Not going to worry about it. Jus feeling flat all week. It will pass I am sure. No testing for me next week. Did my bike test a few weeks ago and bumped up 21 W. I am sure that new bump is part of being whooped. My 5K test is a race 3/17.

  • Eugene is 103 a normal, comfortable cadence for you usually?
  • No. I was told that a higher cadence by some of the local bikers. I don't guess it can hurt to test again at a lower cadence. I use a lower cadence on the road. I was on a computrainer.
  • Eugene- I think you might do better in your comfort zone cadence wise. For me, if it go too high, power might go up but so does RPE so I can't sustain the power and it hurts me in the long run.
  • 2 x 12 and then 1 x7 knocked out yesterday followed by a brisk run. Are we ready for testing next week people? First though - to The Oscars! Enjoy everyone ;-)
  • Just did my bike test today, went up in watts, just need to calculate my new power zones. Need some help, as the EN calculator only seems to have HR zones, as I need the power calculator. I did not see a link for the power calculator.
  • Work Work.
    FTP January 7: 183
    FTP February 25:214
    VO2 Max January 7: 248
    VO2 Max February 25: 267

Now off to ski camp with what is left of my legs.
  • Larry! ~17% increase in FTP is Massive!!!! Nice work! Have fun skiing...
  • Guys thanks for the encouragement and advice. I ended my trip early and went straight in to retest this evening and felt alot better. Mycadence I kept it at about 92 Thanks Kim for the suggestion.

     January test was 215

Saturday test was a sad 220

My retest tonight a 236 and it felt great!

  • Larry those are some awesome #'s. Congrats Have fun skiing I'll be on the slopes in 2 weeks. You should have alot of powder with this weather system sweeping the nation.

  • legs have been really sore/fatigued lately. Showing up more so on the running but def feel it on bike workouts and all day long even when I'm supposed to be 'rested'.

which is why I'm shocked that I got any bump at all from today's test.

I even considered not doing it and just going with a strong bike wko, felt that there was no big bump coming around so just tick the FTP up a notch and keep moving forward.

But, one of my preseason goals was to train in the right zones based on real tests, not 'coulda/shoulda's'.

So, I threw down a double espresso, washed that down with a Red Bull, found some good tunes, and said a little prayer.

As I mentioned on the Dash, I wanted to quit at the 8' mark. Felt like I had overshot it. For some reason, I didn't, just put my head down and 'detached'. When I looked up, I was at the 14' mark and liking the NP that I saw. Once I hit the 16' mark, I threw all form out the window and just tried to stay above that NP. I can't believe my bike stayed on the trainer with the amount of twisting and turning I was doing.

Anyhow, hung on for a respectable bump, about 5%, on a day when i thought that I had no Go in the legs.

Ironically, it's right where I would've guesstimated but I don't want to fall into that habit again.

You guys & gals keep up the great work!
  • Bike test today. Actually looking forward to it as I've done all the work. Came out very different. Vo2went up one watt. FTP down one watt. Very discouraging after killing myself on the bike for all these weeks. Maybe I had a bad day. I'll try it again in a couple of weeks I guess. Run will probably be worse as I've gained 5 pounds and that can't help. Have to keep the faith that if I do the work ill see improvement.
  • Way to go Eugene!
@Chris, you earned it the hard(beck) way...
@Bob, there's a chance you have a ton of fatigue built up. Work does work, but make sure you recover from it... Also could have just been a bad test... Eugene came back a week later after a bad test and posted a solid gain. Good luck and keep us posted.
