Patrick, Doing IMMT, in week 17. In week 15 did the bike camp up North in MI with friends. Completed 105 on the bike/6 mile run day 1; and bike 78 day 2 ; and ran 13 day 3. Took off Monday as prescribed in week 16. Felt pretty good until Saturday then it was like a brick wall slapped me. Did a light run of 5 miles instead and moved the 5 hour bike to Sunday and just struggled to get it done. Did not do the 3 bike that week.
My quads are like bricks, I've iced, gotten massaged, stretch and they are dead. Felt this way for 4 days now and don't want to get into a hole. I really struggled last year in the weeks before IMAZ and by race day my legs would not fire. I am a slow recover'er at 50, I've discovered. Any advice for the rest of the week and leading up?
My week 17 so far, swam 3200 meters, biked on the trainer 16 miles and was exhausted. Tonight on tap, OWS and a the 45 min. run.
CBW, your body rules at this point. So recovery mode it is...ideally we get you to recover early enough that you can put in a few more sessions before race day. So, here are my thoughts:
1 - no intensity this weekend, just time. 2 - easy rides, both days...in the 2.5 to 3.5 hour range. 3 - small yoga / stretch / foam rolling every day...like 15 to 20 minutes a night. Quads _and_ Hammys as they are a tag team. 4 - try to get another massage this week. 5 - no runs longer than 45 minutes, mostly on flat terrain.
Also check your shoes to make sure they are happy, ready to race shoes. Take care of those quads!!!
