Retest before Transitioning and HR Questions

I am transitioning out of OS and into my race training and I have a quick question. Should I retest my LTHR and vdot before transitioning to my race plan? I don't think that I was particularly fit on the bike when I started the OS compared to now. For example, I am typically training at what according to my initial test was z5 when the training calls for Z3 and it doesn't blow me up. I know that the race execution relies heavily on understanding these levels and I just want to make sure that I am training (and racing) with the right intensities.

I know I haven't been vocal in the forums as I am a total noob here but I have been lurking and am drowning in the koolaid. I can't believe how much I have improved in the last 17 weeks (regardless of any future race outcomes). Thanks R-n-P and all you other wicked smart folks.

  • Hi Herb,

Thanks for the good words. Yes, retest LTHR and definitely retest your VDot.

  • What rich said, but do your best to duplicate all testing from your initial LTHR setting. If you tested on the trainer last time, do it again. Not valid to have two different tests....would rather you sort out new numbers on the road/in the real world than try to make sense of two different tests...

    Congrats on the progress!
