2014 OS - Trainer Road is Ready for You!

Folks -

Thanks for your patience. As I mentioned, what Trainer Road and Endurance Nation are doing together for you guys is literally being invented / coded on a regular basis. You won't find this stuff anywhere else on the web (awesome) but it can take some time (generally not so awesome).

So, I have updated the Official Trainer Road Page in the Wiki. This has all the instructions on how to sign up, request access to the TeamEN Group (www.trainerroad.com/teams/3-endurance-nation, please give us 1 business day to approve you) and how to use the TrainerRoad system.

If you are already on Trainer Road and have been affiliated with EN in the past from a previous OutSeason, you should still be good to go. When you launch Trainer Road on your laptop, you should see all of the "2014 OS" workouts under the custom tab.

For more information on Trainer Road and how to get support for it, please go to the Official Trainer Road Page in the Wiki. Thanks!

  • Coach,

This is a fantastic benefit from EN. I am new to the team but I have been a beta user for Nate and the gang at Trainer Road for the last three years and absolutely love their stuff. I was training for long road races 200+ last year and it was not unusual to ride 8 hours on the trainer courtesy of TR and my Lemond trainer. I cant wait to do all this out season stuff with TR. I was actually going to create them myself but you guys have done all that for me/us!!!!!

  • This is huge.......huge fan of trainer road and this makes it even better.

Now.....when is the EN video launch going to happen with trainer road (ala sufferfest)!!!

  • @Lance, stay tuned...thanks for the feedback!!!
  • just an fyi I have an email into TR but I cant see any of the EN workouts under the custom tab. I have been given permission but still cant see anything
  • Just FYI, my 2014 workouts are showing up under the "TrainerRoad" tab, not the "Custom" tab. I was affiliated with TrainerRoad for the 2013 OutSeason.
  • Brent you are a stud. that's where they are! Thanks
  • Is it worth getting the yearly membership for TrainerRoad?/Is this a tool we will use year round or just the OS?
  • YMMV, but the past two years I have used TR Nov-Apr, making the yearly more $ than the monthly. Although i get on the trainer 1-2 times a month May-Oct, it's not worth $5-10 for a single session. In the OS, 10-12 times a month, more cost effective.
  • I'm guessing they're still putting the workouts in?

    Specifically, don't see the test.

    Am I missing it?
  • No, they should all be in there.
  • all signed up and cleared with Trainer Road -- very excited!

quick question regarding the pre-loaded workouts: the warm-up section of the wkos don't seem to sync w/ the instructions. are there plans to load the EN specified warm-up for the test, as well as the standard wko's? is there any way I could help out with the labor of doing so?

    Specifically, don't see the test.

    Am I missing it?

The test is titled "2014 Test Power 5 min & 20 min". Visible for me under the TrainerRoad tab.

  • Thanks Brent.

    found it.
  • OK so I've joined Trainer Road and requested access to the EN workouts. Is there any supplemental guidance I'll need on how to test with it? Or is there an EN test workout already in there? I don't have power and am generally fairly unfamiliar with training with power so this will be fairly foreign for me.

  • I sent out an email Friday with the guideance on how to conduct the Bike and Run tests. If you did not get it, go to the Wiki - select Run and or Bike and you will find the guideance in there on how the Coaches suggest you conduct the tests. Good luck everyone and remember, it is just a snap shot of the day. Stick to the numbers the day gives you and remember that you will be able to test again in 8 weeks. Nothing but up baby. Nothing but up!!!
  • Thanks Brenda!

Where did you send the email? I didn't receive it and I want to ensure I'm on the right DL's.

Regarding the testing guidance in the wiki, is there anything in there specific to Trainer Road? If so, I'm not seeing it. Or should "virtual power" Trainer Road athletes follow the power testing guidance?
  • I sent it to the NOV OS group. If you are signed into that group, which I assume you are, you should of gotten it. I would look in your spam as well. Sometimes they go in there. The test guidance in the Wiki is about how to pace yourself in the test. The outline of the test is the same. Does that make sense?
  • If you are using the virtual power and will continue to use this with Trainerroad throughout the OS, then you should be using the 20 minute test.

  • I'm on Trainerroad as I type this, and don't see the EN plans. I was approved, but am I missing something?

they are listed as "2014 OS Wk1 Thurs ADV" or "2014 OS Wk1 Thurs Beg"

basic format is "2014 OS Wk# Day Planlevel"

  • Dawn - I found I had to go to the Info page and click Resync Workouts. Now I have them.

  • I have to say this is a fantastic EN benefit that I really appreciate! I was already using TR and was not looking forward to creating my own custom workouts 3x/week for the OS plan. So to have it all set up and waiting to go on TR is simply great- used it for all 3 bike workouts this week! I hope this will this be done for future plans going forward, i.e. the HIM plan that I'll be starting in the Spring as I plan to do weekend rides outdoors, but I still will be doing 50-60% of my HIM training rides using TR inside.
  • Awesome! Just used trainer road for the first time this week. I am still not 100% sure I had it set up right, but next time I use it, I'll spend more time verifying everything was ok.
My biggest question is that I use a computrainer, but didn't "calibrate" the computrainer first. Does that make a difference? I couldn't figure out how to do that when I was using trainer road.
  • So, I have a question, and apologize in advance if anyone has already asked this.... it seems to me that the EN OS 2014 workouts in trainer road DON'T include our EN Bike Warm up.... are we supposed to do the warm up and then get OFF the bike to start TR? It could be that it was too early this morning and just wasn't seeing something...

Also, it seems that the EN workouts aren't under the Custom tab, just the reguar Workouts tab. Small thing, but should maybe be addressed in the guidelines for EN users.

And finally.... should I immediately panic that years of training have been for naught if my virtual power numbers seem super low? I know, it's virtual power, just wonder.
  • Check the resistance on your trainer? If your resistance is set higher than the power curve estimate for your trainer that Trainer Road is using, that will alter your power numbers.

You are correct in that the warm up is not in the workouts.  You have a few options: (1) develop a 12' warmup that works for you, (2) do your warm up, then start trainer road, (3) do a Trainer road 30 minute free ride as your warm up, close it so it saves, then load up the workout from EN and start it about 1' before your main set intervals-  Just click the cursor where you want the workout to start and this is where the time and your graph will begin.

  • Thanks, Keith! I knew that creating my own warm-up would be the solution, I was just being a bit high maintenance about the whole thing :-)
  • Crazy suggestion, how about getting RnP or Nate and the guys at TR to publish the warmup to the stream. There are enough of us that are likely to do the same thing and create a custom with the "Official EN Bike Warmup", why not just get it added to TR. Who would we need to poke to get that done?
