I'm giving it a try, Stayed in bed for 8.5 last night. The quality fell sharply after 5 hours. That's when the the school districts started calling to say school was cancelled. My son is a student in one, my wife works for another but the third was just plain mean. My wife hasn't worked for that district in 3 years!
So for the first night, we had crazy windstorms that kept knocking the power on and off. Every time it came back on the one smoke alarm went "BEEEEEEEEEEP" and we would all startle out of bed.
Am I on the wrong day/week? I see some people already have the first week filled out and are entering the second week. I'm still on the first week. I've also seen some entries for Wednesday already in the first week, are those people in Japan?
Looking at the spreadsheet, I'm amazing by the amount of 8+ hours of sleep ppl are getting. I'm sooo envious - and I don't even have kids! Please enjoy it for those among you who seemingly have bodies that don't like to sleep. Sigh. I'm hoping that my luck will change this weekend, otherwise my snowshoe run with our RD on Sunday is going to be tough!
@Naomi - I am starting to ramp up my weekly TSS and I know from the past that sleep is equally as important as training hours for me. I am forcing myself to go to sleep earlier. This challenge is a nice incentive as well.
Well with the sleep challenge I really haven't been sleeping longer but it has gotten me into the habit of tracking my metrics daily in Training Peaks and that's a good thing. One other good thing that I've noticed is that I'm being more Comment about making sure I get my lunch nap in. I've been a power napper since long before there was a name for it and I've been more consistent with that this year and I can feel it in my workouts which I normally do after work. (I haven't been counting those in my sleep hours but they're normally 0.25-0.33 hours or 15-20 minutes for decimally challenged folks.)
Most of the posts are between 8AM and 10PM. Hmmm, given that I write this at 3:50AM and have been up for 1.5 hours, I wish I'd been a member at the start of January! Maybe the challenge would get me to sleep! Competitive sleeping? I'd probably lie awake thinking about the joke about the dyslexic agnostic insomniac...
Good day and welcome to Sunday. This week the wake-up call is at 3:40 a.m. That will take some extra work to get a 7.5 hour average. Last night was 6.5.
Got my 8 hours, but it was so broken up due to my dear hubbies snoring, so feeling rather sluggish. Something to really be said for a solid 8 hours of sleep vs a broken 8 hours of sleep.
It is days like this that I love having an UP band (or fitbit type device that tracks sleeping). No matter how long I am in bed (Typically 8 hours), it tracks my actual sleep, and even down to light vs. deep sleep.
I am seeing a lot already that is helping me make better choices. Days that I work out at night my sleep is poor and under 7 hours even if I am in bed for 8. Days I work out in the mornings my sleep is anywhere from 7.5 - 8.35, all because I am sleeping more soundly with less wake ups and more deep sleep time.
I keep pretty regular bed and wake up times, so it is interesting to see how my actual sleep time & quality moreover varies based on workout impact. GREAT challenge!

Not a good start for the sleep challenge.
Not a good start here either. 5.5 hours Tossed and turned thinking about the EN sleep challenge, Nov OS Week 11, IMLP, the Leafs.....
Thanks for the clarification, BrendAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!
Seinfield reference?
I applied the OS training method to last night's sleep. I did 8 hours of sleep in 6 hours. So I should get more sTss score?
Ha! I love that....thinking outside the box.
On a roll. Two nights 7.5 hours.
I'm enjoying this challenge and primed for a good vDot ride tonight!!

solid 7+ but in smaller chunks than I like.
Slept well last night. My cat wake me a few times. But other than that I was out!
