@Joe- my cadence used to be a bit lower but my cyclist neighbor mentioned closer to 90 is mo' betta. But I wanted to mix it up, for mental stimulation and because it is prob a good idea become comfortable at all ranges. Also gives me something else to focus on other than the pain.
I lost the day today. I bought a new bike and despite the promise to myself that I would not screw around building it today that's just what I did the minute I walked in the door. So now I am a day behind. I am a bad bad boy.
Hmmm something strange is happening down below.... Thursday managed the 4x5 mins VO2s at 1.10IF or above (never done that before) Finished off the sat 2x20 mins at 0.98IF (207W). Then started the 0.85 session and powertap died. No power, no speed, no cadence
Neither were "easy" But felt more manageable - unlike when we started and I'd collapse off the bike!
Will switch to virtual power on trainer road - any idea how close will this be the powertap output? Have a great evening everyone G
I ordered a Pinarello Bolide back in October but they continue to delay shipments. A couple days ago GITA informed me that the Bolide would not ship now until March so I got a smoking deal on a Cervelo P5.
I LOVE bikes particularly the Exotic. I have two Pinarello Graals, a Pinarello Dogma Movistar and a 12 pound Cervelo R5 Ca. I love to buy and build bikes. I never seem to sell any of them though, much to my wife's chagrin. I have some vintage Colnago's as well.
The P5 will have Di2, an SRM powermeter with 3d+Rotor Cranks/qrings. I have all of the Enve and Zipp wheelsets so I will be ready for the season! If you ever need a disc for a race I will be glad to lend you one! Don't hesitate to ask!
@Ray - I sent $10K to my daughter for her wedding last week. Hmmn - nah, can't take it back. But, if I could, I'd buy a P5 to replace my now 5yr old P3!!
@Kim - 90 rpm sounds good. I need to work on it - I'll use my Z3 to build on.
@Gonzalo - your biking and running seem to be hitting all of your targets. Looks like OS has been great for you!
I got on the bike during the Seahawks game and listened to it on the radio for inspiration. Even with the Seahawks winning the gorillas were all over me but I was holding them off. The last 4 minutes of the 2nd interval the gorilla was getting beat so he called in the grizzly. Some days you eat the bear, some days the bear eats you. Bear tastes good!
1 - NP 0.98/VI 1.00
2- NP0.99/VI 1.00
Just for good measure I threw in 10 minutes of Z3 at 0.83/VI 1.03
The snow is dumping in the mountains and the cross country skis are waxed and in the car. No running for me tomorrow but the legs will get a workout regardless.
After reading each and every post below I had to stop and drink a bottle of Endurox R4 to recover from the hard work put forth today. Honestly guys, I am starting to feel sorry for your competitors once we turn you all lose come Spring!
For the first time since last fall I decided to take it outside and go find some of the wild Jungle Gorillas. I found them, they were fierce but not invincible.
Got my son to the airport. Christmas break was way too short. After shopping with my wife, (SAU's) we drove home and I was able to get the remainder of my morning ride in. I was able to ride the 10 minutes at 1.04 IF, 279 NPW. I also added 25 minutes at .82 IF. Work is early tomorrow. Time to stay on track for the sleep challenge.
@Ray : Congratulations !!! The P5 is sweet...one day I will get one...I have a P3 that I got in 2011 so I still have to depreciate a little more ...and also got an R3 last year (a little bit of a Cervelo fan here..). Agree with the guys...pictures once you have it are a MUST!. Thanks for the encouragement!
@Joe : Definitely this OS is going very well (in contrast with last year when it was plagued by injuries). I've been hitting consistently all WOs with very few exceptions, got a bump of 35W in FTP and 3 VDoT pts by Wk8 so... already great! What helps the most is having all OSers support and knowing that I have to post at the end of the day literally makes me go the extra mile !
My week got jumbled up with craziness at work, so just did Thursday's workout tonight. Not as bad as I was expecting. I'm hoping to be able to do today's FTP work tomorrow, but I wanted to make sure to at least get the VO2 stuff in tonight and we'll see how the fatigue falls tomorrow. Keep fighting the good fight kids!
@Ray, My wife would say there is a problem. I would say "you always know where I am, and it's not out at bar." I built my son a Dogma 60.0 last year. It is an awesome ride and a serious climbing machine. I can't wait to see your P5 and how it deals with the Lake Placid ride.
After today's run (and subsequent family nature walk in the local state park), I decided to drop in on this week's bike thread to see all the mojo that's been happening. Its pretty awesome. This is the reason I stay in the Haus season after season. Most of you know that I had to reset my OS, but I'll be hitting these weeks (and the new intervals) after the Tour of Sufferlandria. It will be lonely doing them all by myself but I'll definitely feed off these threads then.
@Mike, thanks for the comments. After last season's 3 wins, this entire season was a dream. Although we would have loved a different outcome, my wife and I both rode the roller coaster of emotion during the championship and were proud of Auburn at the end. We were also very happy that all the fans, for both teams, were polite and well mannered. That made it a great experience!
@Ray. Congrats on the P5! I was lucky enough to get one too (for Christmas). Waiting for the ice to melt so I have only had it on the trainer - super sick bike!!
@Bill, I am not sure I am even doing IMLP. Everything is contingent on my shoulder recovery. I was run over in Hawaii in 2010 by a COURSE marshal and I suffered some big time injuries. I have not been able to swim or run since then although it appears that the healing has begun in the last 5 months or so. I swam the swim challenge last week and it was the first time since 2010 I was able to swim 1000 yds. Little victories. If I progress I certainly will try to make the camp and the race.
2x18' Z4 Did the 90 minute trainer ride yesterday with two longer intervals. I was slightly over target power. A day of rest(I did of a core workout though) on Friday helped. ?Left Achilles niggling at me however so I decided to skip the 20min run that was on the plan so as I didn’t aggravate it. Biking seems to bother it more than running though. I have had this for over a year. Perhaps a bike fit will help…I really need to get that done.
Got the ride in yesterday, got busy in the afternoon with a tennis match and party . Luckily my gorilla is smaller than many of the ones I'm reading about with some of you! Got the intervals in at 1.01, .98, and .96.
I skipped the trainer work yesterday and went out into the Seattle wind and rain on my road bike. I planned to do 50, but if you watched the Seahawks yesterday you know what the weather was like here. I got settled in to my normal 50 loop, but 10 miles in, I hit a tree fallen across the road...totally impassable. I turned around and discovered why I'd been going so fast: at 25 mph tailwind! Heading south on the flats was like riding uphill...max effort to go 15 mph. Decided to cut it short and do some hill repeats near my house. 3 x 0.5 mile, 250ft of climb. Then, I did another short loop near my house and hit another closed road! I decided that was enough and headed in. 28 miles in 1:45.
Checked my Rule 9 block for the month. Maybe I will stick with the trainer for a while.
Just catching up to this thread...@Ray congrats on the new P5! Your stable is sick. I'm also a pretty big Cervelo fan, with a 2012 P2 and a 2012 S5 classing up my garage.
@Richard, man you're brave. It was pretty miserable down here in Olympia yesterday. I stuck to the trainer other than the 30 minute run I did on the morning during a break. I have been out in stuff like that though and it's no fun.

Saints looking tough! Go Pats!
@Joe Borrow $5k from your daughter and I can get you one.

Are you at the EN LP training camp in June?

That second interval hurt.
IF 1.0, ,97, .85
Ouch

Just catching up to this thread...@Ray congrats on the new P5! Your stable is sick. I'm also a pretty big Cervelo fan, with a 2012 P2 and a 2012 S5 classing up my garage.
@Richard Don't you just love the S5! I really like the geometry of the Cervelo road bikes. It is the closest thing to riding a tribike.
BTW your training is coming along fantastic!!!!!
Good to get the Bike Test in the can. Improved Vo2 and FTP.
December Test January Test
