EN Preisdents Day Weekend Bike Challenge 2014

Welcome to the EN 2014 President's Day Weekend Bike Challenge

The score keeping starts on SATURDAY 2/15 and ends MONDAY 2/17. Full rules and details below.

Who Can Play: Anyone!

Rules: Earn points by riding how you want over the 3-day weekend, honor system please!

How To Earn Points:

Please Note: Points are awarded for cumulative time; so 17’ of FTP riding only gets you 1 point; but 3 x 10’ at Zone 4/FTP would earn you 2 points (for 30 total minutes).

* 1pt = 60′ of JRA / Zone1 / Easy — This is your ride all day pace, warm up, noodling, etc. RPE=1/10.

* 1pt = 30′ of Work / Zone3 / ModHard— This is your tempo pace, think fast Half Iron bike pace; RPE=6-7/10.

* 1pt = 15′ of FTP / LTHR / Zone4 — This is your threshold effort, think Olympic Tri/40k TT; RPE=8/10.

* 1pt = 7′ of VO2 / Zone5 / Very Hard — This is max effort, think puke pace; RPE=10/10.

How To Earn Additional Points via Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram:

* 1pts = Pic of you competing/puking/dying/climbing

* 2pts = Video of you doing any/all of the above

* Submit the above by posting / tweeting the pic/video and tagging it @TeamEN

How To Play:

* Go to this link to the Data Sheet and enter your info; form teams if you want!

* Plan and execute workouts;

* Enter minutes in “zone” via spreadsheet calculator to tally points;

* Enter final points earned into points tab of spreadsheet;

* Honor system for reporting, scoring and non-Power/HR folks.

Here is a little video from our girl Nemo from a previous years Challenge to get you excited.

Start planning the hurt!!!

  • In.

    Throw down:  BEAT THE BADGERS!

  • Without a whole lot of long bike rides in my season thus far, I'm going to do my bestest for the long weekend. My local tri team has a "base camp" down in TX Hill County, and hopefully it's warm enough for this cold wuss to participate!
  • Scott...I'm in Helotes (northwest side of San Antonio). Where are you guys camping/riding?

    @Jeff, we're basing out of Fburg (the luxurious Econolodge on Adams St). The team coach hasn't given us the routes yet, but they'll be in/out of Fburg for sure.

  • Brenda,
    Are there any bonus points if I stick to my training schedule exactly to the letter with no changes....even though I do not have any events for several months?

    Just kidding.

    Good Luck everyone!!!

    Stark us in the frozen Tundra are just starting to warm up. This ride was for you this morning.....

    A hearty Badger BOOM! goes out to you, Carl. Great work, brotha!

    Unfortunately . . . I hyperextended my elbow and am now in a sling for another 5 days or so. So no swimming or biking which means I am out of this challenge.

    Go get 'em everyone and make the Badger sweat for me!

    Stark out.

  • First day of the President's Day Weekend Challenge. It was early and I wasn't pretty.

    Picture = 1 pt

    30 min Z3 = 1

    2 x 15 min Z4 = 2 pts

    7 min of Z5 = 1 pt.

    Total = 5 points

    Trainer Road file 2/15/2014

    .

  • Day One complete. 6points in total.

      • 60min of JRA (Zone 1)
      • 30min of ABP (Zone 3)
      • 30min of FTP (Zone 4)
      • Video posted to Facebook page (work works)

    Link is here:

  • wow cuz---that might go up there with worst celebrity mug shots!!
  • Heh heh heh. I picked up another 3 points listening to the game this morning. And just for Brent Pilon I photobombed my TR workout.

    http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/...ee-Ride-90

    Photo = 1 pt

    30' of Z3 = 1 pt

    15' of Z4 = 1 pt

    7' of Z5 = 1 pt

    Total = 4 pts

  • Day #2 is in the books. It was such a beautiful day, I had to ride outside. While it took way too much thinking to keep the time/zones straight, I finished up with:

      • 60min Zone 1
      • 30min Zone 3
      • 7 min Zone 5

    Best of all, I didn't have to ride around my neighborhood even ONCE to get to the correct ride time. Small things.....

    Also posted a video (and tagged WorkWorks) right before I left.

  • Here is what I have figured for my points today....

    Bike 2 hrs= 2 points, 30 mins of FTP=1 point, 30' of zone 3=1 point, and 1 point for 7' of VO max. Total of bike = 5, Pics and video = 1 point.

    Total points for today should be......6 points!!!!

    A movie is at the end of this post also.

  • Uh, Carl. If I'm reading the rules correctly you don't get 2 points just for riding 2 hours. Just sayin'.

  • Just reposting here in addition to the dashboard. Here's 3 more points and a video to make 5, little honey boo boo... That's 9 points for today.

    30 min of Z4 = 2 pts

    7 min of Z5 = 1 pt

    Sunday's Part Deux Ride

    Video is on the Work Works FB page. I think.

  • TG todays ride was the last. One hour ride followed by 7 mile run then core exercises. Ready for a break. 265 miles in 6 days.
  • Good morning, folks. Here's this morning's session. A bit more reasonable approach. Hacking the hell out of this week's OS program... I have noticed that TR's calculation of my zone participation seems to measure things on a second to second basis overall yet when it comes to calculating the interval work it gives the average power. I do the same thing on my Garmin to measure the interval time and keep an eye on the 3 second power and average power. Those are the numbers I'm declaring in these posts.

    15 min at Z4 = 1 pt

    30 min at Z3 = 1 pt

    Video = 2 pts

    Total of 4 pts

    Today's ride file on TR

    Video on the Work Works FB page

  • I'm making a video to tie you Mr Wick!!!
  • Carl - 5 points on a one hour ride? Do tell....
  •
Joe-

    1 point for 1 hour ride

    2 points for JRA cause basically it was about 60 min of that

    1 point for sweet spot

    1 point for pic. Oh and to be technical its really 2 points for the videos so it all looks good to me.

    If I am not figuring right please let me know. Thanks

I cant get my pics to upload here from the firestation so they are on facebook and tagged to work works and Brenda Ross.

    Uh, Carl. If I'm reading the rules correctly you don't get 2 points just for riding 2 hours. Just sayin'.

    Hmmm if 60' is 1 point shouldn't 120 min be 2 points and 180 min be 3 points. That's a lot of time spent on the trainer and should deserve some credit.
  • Carl. Carl, Carl. As you can see on my TR files, I've only been counting actual Z3, Z4 and Z5 time for point scoring. Don't feel bad though, I knew you were going to need those points to keep it close.

    What kind of ride are you going to do tonight?

  • I'm at station so no more riding. 256 miles since tues, 26 miles running and just over 2 miles swimming. 17 hour training week. My taint needs a break.

    If you can't get a point for each hour then don't ride again cause it won't count for pointsimage
  • I just used the calculator on the first tab when planning my rides. For example, yesterday's ride was One hour and 37 minutes, broken down like this:

      • 7min VO2
      • 30min ABP
      • 60min Zone 1

    Today's first ride was scheduled at 2:14 with:

      • 60min Zone1
      • 30min ABP
      • 30min FTP
      • 14min Vo2

    I ended up riding outside and misjudged the speed/course, so I ended up with an extra 17min of Zone 1.....deciding now if I am going to "Do A Wick" and ride a second time tonight for 43min so as to get that last two points (one for the ride and one for a I AM DONE! picture. image For now, I am at 6 points today for the ride, 2points for video.

    I have really enjoyed this challenge. It helped motivate me to get my butt outside yesterday and today. BTW -- today's two and a half hour ride was the longest I have ridden since Wisconsin. I didn't enjoy the last 20min, but it hurting like that felt good in a weird sort of way.

  • Joe-

    I agree love all the challenges!!! The TOS and this challenge have been a blast. Nice work everyone.
  • So, to finish off the President's Day Weekend Bike Challenge I went down there in the deep dark pain cave and rang up 4 sets of 7 minutes in Zone 5. A long weekend of Z3, Z4 and Z5 salad. It was, uh... fun?

    Chapeau! Chapeau!

    Well played, Sir!

    I hereby concede. Ain't no way I am getting on the trainer and doing three points worth of work just to tie.

  • It wasn't that last bike that got me, it was the 90 minutes of shoveling afterward! Hahahaha

    Joe, I was very jealous to see you were riding outside!!

    Nice work everyone!!
