Olivia- WOW! Thanks for sharing that, it made me smile! You have alot of people that care about you- remember that at mile 18! We're all with you!!
Ran trails yesterday, swam 3000 and today rode 102 miles (woohoo!) First century of the year in the books! Super hilly and felt good till abt mile 80! It was about 37 degrees at the start and MAN was it COLD!! Ended up at 64 degrees and boy that sunshine felt good! Since we went over 3 hrs, the snickers/mt dew law went into effect. The Mt Dew was GREAT!! Yum!!!! Super duper tired, so off to bed! Night all!!
Quick question regarding ladies Tri top fit...I ordered the ladies xl and it fits EXCEPT it is short. It hits just at the top of my waist. Is this how it is supposed to fit, or is my torso too long for it?
Thanks to all for the prayer and good vibes. NOLA went about how I expected. However......while I was prepared for the heat....I wasn't ready for the heat and to tell you the truth, I have never swam in anything like that in my life other than to body surf into the beach. It was weird and I had major vertigo coming out of the water. There were large rollers and you had to time the stroke so that you could take the breath at the top. Three women in my age group quit before the first buoy. Here's something else weird. They told us at the race briefing that if we didn't feel like we could do the swim because of the water conditions we could opt out and stand in a tent until they told us to go. Weird. You wouldn't have been eligible for an award, but you had to make the call before entering the water. So if those women would have just made the call, they could have finished. I tried to talk one out of quitting. It just took a little longer to get used to it and get a rhythm. She said she just couldn't do it. The upside was that I tend to be stronger on my right and veer that direction. The rollers kind of pushed me back in line. When I turned then I had to watch it. Bike went well but I knew after getting off the bike I was doomed on the run. My back was stiff and hurt pretty bad for some reason. Might just be the aggressive configuration of my aero position. Anyway, after running three miles, I just walked most of the 13.1. The down side as I told Nemo is that I missed the 8 hour cutoff by 10 seconds. I still got a medal and t-shirt and I finished so I'm good with the results. I know I need some strong work before I go to IM Moo so this was good for me.
Olivia, what a cute cute thing for your friends to do.
Marianne, hope you are feeling better
Becky great job!!
Special shout out to the husband who puts up with this craziness!!!!
Congrats on your day at NOLA Sheryl! It sounds like it had its ups and downs (literally) and like you persevered in the end. I'm so proud of you! I love that you tried to talk the woman out of stopping during the swim. It is cool that you took the time to offer that encouragement to a fellow racer. Take a few days to relax before getting back into training. Again, congrats!
Sheryl-Way to hang in there! Sounds like a tough one. Super duper karma for encouraging people not to quit
O- Love the locker, What special friends! we'll all be cheering for ya
Kris- sounds like a big training weekend. Way to go!
Beth- Always fun to be Auntie, added core work awesome
Aimee- glad you are feeling better, went to lunch. Happy cheering at Boston Marathon
Becky & Suzanne- great to meet and ride with you guys! Great job Becky on getting out there. It was tough riding. We were all thinking of turning around at one point, but stuck with it. My shoulders were tensing up from holding on. Great having lunch at Panera
I had a good training weekend- sat ran 2x8(1), then walking, so my running is progressing. Knee seemes to be handling things, but cautious. The winds were even worse on saturday in Baltimore, so did 1:45 on drainer. I was pretty happy that I was feeling good riding sat. seemed like my zone 3 was now getting easier. Time for a test, but don't test well! On Sunday's ride, i was pulling a group for probably too long, then dropped off the back, what happened? probably too much effort up front, combined with saturday workout? Knee was a little achy last night and this am-I don't think a setback. just need some ice, aleve and stretching rolling. My weight on scale is all over the place However, clothes are starting to fit better. yesterday my cycling jacket which was a little snug over hips a few weeks ago, was not yesterday- fit better Hopefully number on scale will start catching up. Just want my body back!
Oh- I got up at 5am yesterday, 6;30 today. Getting better at it.
M- dislike the abdominal pain you are having. I know you hate shots, but can you get a cortisone shot in shoulder, rather than take the prednisone pills- they are nasty, lots of side effects as you know. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Michele- what's going on? head cold, overtraining? You mentioned before your fatigue. Hope your energy returns soon!
Ok gotta scoot! Going to PA to spend time with Mom. Will take her to lunch in cute town called New Hope
okay the cramping lasted about 5 hours , weird, like a brick, couldn't do my WII yoga !! now my sister was wondering if I was celiac? so I had sorta cut out some wheat products but sure enough yesterday had 2 choc chip cookies and then also some of the kids' coated chicken. and then I added in not one but two smoothies@!! but not big ones, anyways downright weird, I only have two more days. Now I sorta asked for a shot but I also had that piriformis thang so pills got it all~, that was my ortho doc that did the shot! anyways, I did sleep last night and tapering down on these shots, good thing was I haven't been hungry so weight did come off so now I am back to original weight! although very thick in the middle so have been turning down my shorts ! I tell ya. what a mess between me, my husband (ear/vertigo) and my dog (paw)! but I ran 8 this morning, with walking and etc and took 1:30 to do it. so I am running at IM run pace! but it felt good and after a two day rest weekend, I felt good enough. now if the pain doesn't go away, then making another call to diff doc. meanwhile the massage gal hasn't set me up an appt we have tried to link up but to no avail, about to try somebody diff! I start IM tng one week from today! by golly. with the body that I currently have!! ha ha. Hey did you see that some of the Biggest Loser contestants have gotten into triathlons?? cool huh? okay girls gotta scoot. very cool here so a good day to do admin and other stuff cuz it is not sunny and nice!! ** oh yeah the dog not better yet, still on antibiotics! another checkup this Thurs, already $900 ouch. there went my PM money! so he has been off running for one month. you should see the way he looks at me when I leave too.
@M. glad you got a run in - sorry to hear about your cramping... ugh!
so, ladies, I finally listened to the nutrition podcast Saturday - prior to my 56mile ride to see what I can start working on now that I'm about to enter my HIM 6 week crash course. And, trying (trying, trying) to do better (and drop the last 6-8 pounds I'm up from my "normal" weight) because I'm sick of complaining about it... so, I brought a salad in for lunch today with lots of veggies, some nuts and seeds... and I was happy to discover a new use for a gel flask - salad dressing! I must admit I was pretty pleased with myself for that little discovery at 7:30am! So, had the salad... and, I must confess, some Kashi TLC cheese crackers to go with it... not totally no carbs (and I did have my standard cereal and fruit with breakfast, don't see that one changing... but maybe I can start doing morning smoothies with greek yogurt for protein... hmm... that could work)...
Okay, I've had weird hammie issues since I essentially started training for my first marathon. A massage therapist and orthopod told me it was at the insertion point of the glute and the hammie (ischeal tuberosity, I think). It wasn't that bad last summer... but is flaring up again since I've been running this last 10 weeks... Anyway, I got the trigger point set recently and was flipping through the book yesterday (post ride from hell) to do some serious self-loving-torture-massage-rolling and I see the word "piriformis" and see the pic... and the light bulb went off. I've read sooooo many posts about it but never knew what it was or looked it up, now I wonder if that's my problem... the area looks to be about right. So, assuming that's it, I'm gonna keep working the PT ball and stretching. Any other thoughts? I suspect there's a wiki or forum thread about it.
Another random question/sort of injury issue I thought I'd run by ya -- when I do long rides followed by a brick (and in races), my shins get crazy tight and sucky... only lasts for the first 1-2 miles... but it's rough until they loosen up. Wonder if this is "normal" or what I might try to make the running transition less painful.
Sheryl- congrats on getting to that finish line! What a tough day!!! How did the meet & greet with your birth dad go? Wasn't that this weekend too? Man, what a busy stressful week for you!!!
Becky- I'm so glad you got that ride under your belt. Stressful for sure, but it had to give you confidence! regarding your hammie- have you seen Leigh's "Athletes treating Athletes" blog posts? She's got some great stuff up there, including how to hit that periformous! Check it out: www.athletestreatingathletes.com
Marianne- I get that feeling when I travel. UGH, it's aweful. I don't know why, but when I travel I guess my diet changes enough that I get really bloated & constipated. I never thought I'd be one to need it, but when we went to Utah last year I had to resort to the old Exlax pills. I hope you can find your solution! Oh, and I love the smilies, but I still miss the old ones!!
Suzanne- thanks for sharing the pic! I'm so jealous of you ladies who get a chance to meet & train together in person. Gosh I can't wait until IMoo!!!!
thanks, nemo, I'll check it out! having a hard work-mojo day.... reading, reading, reading... it's interesting but still... need to take mental breaks between comments to keep myself awake. You don't have to wait til Moo... I'm happy to be meeting you (and other EN'ers) at EM! :-)
@all - I'll clarify- I came down with a bad head cold, our company from Palau shared upon arrival last week. I knew it would be the worst over the weekend and it was. I slept A LOT and did zero training. I am at work today and except for post nasal drip, I am fine. Did my pushups and core work today. It was hard to get out of bed so early (7 am which is very late for me). I am already on thyroid medication and my check-up is next week. You ladies keep me honest. If it was up to me, I'd just keep writing my own prescription for the same dose and never get re-tested. But I want to be a good example.
@Marianne- I second that the stomach could be the prednisone causing problems. But if you do an elimination diet and think it is celiac, I would definitely get tested. This can also add to fatigue.
@Sheryl- Sounds like NOLA was really tough. I hate water like that. But it does take some getting used to. And anyone that already dislikes swimming won't tolerate such rough surf. I am fine with OWS, but really have to focus when the water is rough. Back issues are awful. Please take care of yourself, and it's not bad to question everything. From bike position to flexibility.
@Nemo- I have found that prunes are the answer. And the "Cherry Essence" flavor is like candy. 5 of those a day and you won't have a problem.
@Becky- Wow on the ride! I could almost feel the wind. I used to live in Catonsville,MD and drove to Dover, DE, often to visit a friend. I know the winds are brutal out there.
@Barbara- my top hits the same spot and then rides up. Drives me crazy. I just pull it down for the photogs, otherwise I ignore it. But I do wish it was longer.
I am SOOOO hungry today I can't stand it!!! And not junk food... just FOOD!! Guess that's my body (or my mind's) response to yesterday ride. Got restocked on protein and bought some almond milk over weekend so ready to go with smoothie time!! I don't do them in off season (due to cals and that way I have something to look forward to).
Taking today as off day. Trying to decide whether to run half mary this weekend with century coming up following weekend (and I get to meet Gina & Su hopefully while down in Chat).
Michelle, thanks for mentioning flexibility. I know that has been an issue for me but your mentioning it turned the light bulb on. I will work on that!
Becky, now I want to research that word I can't pronounce much less spell :>)
Nemo...apparently not being prepared with nutrition and drinking copious amounts of gatorade are the answer based on the number of stops we are making for me to hobble to the restroom. Gatorade ALWAYS does this to me. I need to get off my lazy catoosh and start some studying so that I can nail the nutrition on IM Moo. I told Kathy that someone dropped a peanut butter sandwich on the bike ride and man did that look tasty. I know I can't eat much in the way of solid food on a race though.
The meet with my birth father was great. Very nice man. We stayed with him and his girlfriend and she made more food than an army could eat (southern tradition). It was fun. I had already met my birth mother's side of the family but we all got together on Sunday night after the race. Not sure if I shared this but I have an 80 year old uncle who did the Houston to Austin MS ride over the weekend. I sure hope I inherited those genes!!!
Ugh....I start a new job on Wednesday. It will be nice but I have enjoyed my year off and just when I'm coming out of the black hole I go back to work. It's only five blocks from home though and it isn't a "career" job but a true 8-5 so it should be a good fit for our family. I got a call while we were traveling for a "career" job but it would have been two total hours of commute every day and stressful so my husband told me to take less money and focus on training and our family which is where my heart is. Gotta love him! Plus he stood out in the sun at the French Quarter for two hours yesterday worrying about me. I made it a condition of employment that they would give me the time off for Chicka camp and Habitat 500.
Have a great week all! Can't wait to meet you all!
Wow, Sheryl! Awesome that your meeting with your birth father went so good! I'm happy for you! And how nice of your hubby to let you take the job that enables you to train and be with family. @Becky, I too, am dealing with the piriformis issue! Definately check out Leigh's blog and website. I also go for myofacial massage, and acupuncture. I tell you, that helped me last week! I ran a hilly 10 mile race Saturday, with some hammie issues, but I finished in a good time, for me. Then yesterday I biked for an hour in 25 mph + headwinds. Today, I have a little pain, but NOTHING like I had last week! I am amazed. I did swim this a.m., which I am certain helped stretch me out some. @Michelle, thanks for the info. about the top. Guess I'll live with it. I hate tops that roll up like windowshades!!! When I held up the XL I asked myself outloud, in what country is this considered an XL?? Not in the USA! Seriously though, I MUST lose atleast 20 more lbs. Maybe when I lose some more weight, it will feel better. But, my waist doesn't change location, so I doubt it. @Kris, the hunger, I know it well! I swear I could eat myself out of house and home! I cannot get enough food lately!! I wish I could say that yogurt and granola cuts it for me, but hey, I want something SUBSTANTIAL!!! My weight has gone up 7 lbs. now, since taking 2 transition weeks!!! However, my body fat is down .5% and my body comp. is down maybe a.25%. So, I don't know what's up with my body. However, with all this biking, my thighs are making it difficult to fit into slacks I just bought a couple of weeks ago! I feel like the Incredible Hulk!! Anyone else having thigh issues? Just call me Xena!
Olivia: How wonderful and thoughtful of your friends to do that! I hope you are resting and absorbing all that work you did. If you hear voices during the run, you're not crazy---it will all of us cheering loudly for ya!
Becky, Tracy, and Suzanne: Big kudos for getting out there and riding in that wind.
Tracy: So so happy to hear you're running and the knee is being good. I'm with you on the weight loss thing. After I injured my knee last May (and didn't do any consistant running until about 6 weeks ago), I thought the riding would be okay for weight maintenance. NOOOOOO...I got on the scale at my GYN exam last week and just about burst into tears. I am officially the heaviest I've ever been. So after I got over myself, I made a weight loss plan for the next 4 months. Nothing crazy just trying to mindful and consistent. So let's keep each other going going with this project...
Marianne: Don't like the abdominal cramping and bloating. Prednisone can cause or worsen peptic ulcer disease. Is you pain better after eating? I really, really hope that you're off the steroids soon so that your metabolism, circadian clock, and overall well-being can get on track with your new thyroid medication dosage.
Kris: 37 degrees---that is stinking cold! I rode in 41 degrees this morning---BRRR! That's quite the epic weekend too. No wonder you're hungry!
Sheryl: Big congrats on hanging tough and finishing NOLA! Those swim conditions are tough coming right out of OS and not having done many OWS. So glad to hear that your meeting your birth dad went well. And now a new job! Holy crap, you need a recovery week from all of it!
Michele: Glad to hear you're on the mend. I hate being sick and having to stand down on training. I also hear ya about writing prescriptions for oneself...If I knew anything about dosing Synthyroid, I'd already have written myself for some without testing. Blessed be primary care providers.
Becky: I have the same tight spot! Check out Leigh's website Athletes Treating Athletes on FB about stretching those muscles. Of course, you can always post that question on the medical forum too..
In my continuing effort to become a morning person (just for sake of getting the training done---once IMMoo is done, it's back to sleeping in again!), I was out on my tri-bike with Nathalie at 7am. It was 41 degrees and a bit windy. Perfect conditions for tucking in and staying in aero. It was nice to get out there early---everyone on the road (in a car) was awake or drinking coffee on the way to work. No texting teenagers, truck drivers crazed on met-amphetamine. 10-15 years ago I used to ride through traffic in Seattle and Pittsburgh to train and commute. I did it without fear. Now that I'm older and living in Upstate NY, I've become more paranoid about car vs. bike accidents. I swear I have so many blinking red lights on me now, that someone would have to be color blind or really hate Christmas tree lights to hit me!
one more day of prednizone which I will tolerate as I still have pain. nope my stomach aches AFTER I eat. and I feel like I am bigger in the waist and it is about to POP! funny I know you shoulda seen me in bike shorts with a roll over the top in spandex, I finally just put a jersey over it to cover it up! and yes my EN singlet rides up too. you gotta get the race bib positioned! bought some gluten free stuff to test on myself! my sister doing the same thing as two of her sons have the markers for it. between stress: perimenopause, thyroid, iron, I could take my pick for fatigue so I have also bought high iron foods, got organized with pill organizer for vitamins with iron to take separately from synthroid! I feel old when I bought that thing but it has helped. to remember to take the multivit with iron. I now have almond milk, black bean soup, tomato soup, butternut squash soup, dates, apricots, raisins and sunflower seeds, gluten free granola, oats and cream of rice cereal, yogurt galore, fresh fruit, salads, eggs, milk, black rice bread, cottage cheese and etc... no sugar, high iron, no gluten for the endurance female athlete!! . I am trying to fight the PMS that takes me down for a week and this last time for 2!, get the iron up past 13, get the thyroid functioning... ALL in the next week!! I start IM training next Monday!
** I relate all of that to you cuz i am glad most of you have gone to see your docs!! besides they need some healthy peeps to see!!
I am still looking for a magic bullet blender than can be operated via battery of out of your car?? smoothies on the go? must buy new cooler for the car as mine is nasty.. one week and counting til D DAY organization!! m
Just popping into say hi, ladies! Missed you all so much the last few weeks...it was near impossible to find time to sit down and read through the forum, so I'm much behind now. Marianne, I've been cooking more in my crockpot, got more recipes for you!
Off to the shower, I'll try to catch up with you all later...keep going...keep inspiring...
Wow...Marianne....did your warranty run out? OK..on the gluten free, my daughter is celiac and hubby can't tolerate gluten. It runs in his family. Gluten free is sneaky stuff. I have purchased something labeled "Gluten Free" only to have it make my daughter sick and then read in the ingredients list that it might contain wheat. It's now a marketing ploy. We just shop the outside of the store and stay away from the bakery. There is a store in Plymouth, MN that has red labels on every shelf that contains a gluten free product but even then due diligence is the key. I make all homemade broth now as there is gluten in most beef broth for some bizarro reason. Modified food starch might be a culprit too and I think there is gluten in one type of food coloring. Soy sauce is suspect too. Anyway....good luck. My daughter is still having issues and it has kept her from going into the Coast Guard. The next thing they are testing her for is fructose intolerance of all things. Some days I get sick of it because I can eat whatever I want except for Brazil nuts and most lettuce. I tolerate it all by eating lunch out with friends and getting my "I get to eat whatever I want" fix.
Probably more than you wanted and probably already knew all this but feel free to ask if you are new to the gluten free and want info. Oh and meat rubs have gluten...beer too dangit....
Kit that's funny about the Christmas tree lights. I know what you mean. There have been two accidents in the past month in our town of 13,000 involving texting teenagers, one resulted in his death and the other gal is still in critical condition after ending up upside down in a retention pond and having to be airlifted. Teens scare me because they are so distracted. I can't count the number of times I have told my daughters that any age from 17 - 25 and the words "good drive" do not belong in the same sentence. Be brave. You are a bigger trooper than me. I would be on the trainer.
well girls I just got out off the EN chat room, we need to do that sometimes, I just missed Rich! anyways I have gained 2.5 lbs in 4 days according to WII! lol
I am holding true to my lurker status of late, but I do check in here daily to catch up.
Olivia- Wonderful friends you have and you are now how many days out from IMSG?? Hope you are in the checking your list phase.
Sheryl- Congrats on NOLA! Just swimming in Lake Ponch would be enough for moi
Marianne- Are you tapering off the 'roids yet? I hate that jacked up feeling they give
Tracy- Keep on keepin on with the knee and running. It does look like you are getting in some good rides
Kris- Counting on seeing you next wknd !! And, BTW, "When Love Takes Over" is the running song
Becky- I have had some "high hamstring" issues and using the TP roller as Leigh shows on her video has helped
Nemo- Come to East TN ANYTIME for some hill work. The terrain is much like MOO
Kit- How can you be a surgeon and not a morning person?? You guys LOVE to get going to damn early
LPatch- I love ya.
You gals that are my friends on FB know I got my new PT/Joule combo last week. Took it out Sunday for the first ride, and 7 min in, BAM!! Down I went, crossing some RR tracks. Once I made sure the bike was alright and I hadn't broken anything I went on to ride. I had planned on 40 ish miles, but called it a day at 30. I was really hurting from the fall. My left side took the brunt with assorted raspberries and bruises (my hip/thigh being the worst). My biggest concern is my calf. No obvious injury, but I get searing pain when I dorsiflex my leg. It is either badly strained or something torn. On the bright side, I could have REALLY been hurt and there is plenty of time to heal. Gonna take it easy this week and be ready to start next Mon on the MOO plan.
Spent hours last night getting the computer set up with Power Agent ( I have a MAC so have to set everything up on the PC side) The Joule is really nice, though Saris has got to work out some power zone issues. Real time IF and TSS are disproportionately low. They are supposed to have a firmware update within the next few weeks to address this. In the meantime, Andrew Coggan and Jordan Rapp have been helpful over on ST. Fortunately, when you put data into WKO, it is just raw data, so your file analysis is accurate.
I am soooo looking forward to MOO Camp with everyone!!
Morning ladies... catching up over coffee... took notes (hope I didn't miss anyone)
@Sheryl, once again congrats... what a race what a weekend. so glad your meeting your dad went well! good luck with the new job. I think it's awesome that your DH/fam support you and allow you to be you! I hope someday I can leave the desk job (I just don't love being a lawyer - could never do the law I wanted...) and do what I want... if Dan is the man for me, he will support that I want to grow up to work in/own a gym. I have sort of mentioned it to him and he didn't balk. Some of my colleagues laugh when I say that I want to be a trainer... as if it's beneath me and my brain power. Most people who know me get it and are really supportive. We'll see.
I digress, sorry...
@Barbara, Gina - I took a super fast look at the blog, didn't have time to watch the video re: how to use my roller and TP ball, but I'm looking forward to it. I also have my first massage in a while scheduled for Saturday. I am definitely a believer in massages during training and now I'm finally getting back into the game to justify it! And Gina, hope you're okay after the crash! Take care!
@Kit - I was my heaviest in years and years this past February... it was horrible... after the crash then the surgery not being able to run really killed it. Even though I was biking per the EN plan it just didn't help... sure the diet went a bit south but not off the reservation... the distance running is what's changed in my life. I'm eeking my way back down... and I watched the nutrition podcase finally and am going to really try to take the advice to heart. After all, I bought the plans and am killing myself in the workouts...why blow it all by sabotaging (sp?) myself with my diet... we can do it!
@Marianne - wow... I hope you can get everything straight and start your IM Prep feeling strong! I'm sending lots of good karma your way!!!
Hi Ladies! Just a quick howdy during my plan period. Sounds like everyone is busy, busy, busy. Aren't women always busy? I hope everyone is on the mend. I ran this morning and have a niggle in my darn hamstring. So glad I have massage and acupuncture scheduled for Thurs. I have Indy Mini a week from this Saturday, and am concerned about the hammie rearing it's ugly head! I really want to have a good run. Guess I'll have to finagel my week 3 IM schedule for a taper on the run, and even cut back on the bike intensity and distance. Is anyone else in the forum, running Indy? If so, let me know! I'd love to meet up with you! Just thinking out loud here...since so many of you have wonderful soup and smoothie recipes, I'm wondering about one of you (not me, because I don't have recipes starting a separate thread just for recipes? I know there's the nutrition thread, but thought a recipe thread might be cool, with sub-forums for smoothies, soups, salads, main dishes, etc. Just a thought. I'd love to have some of your recipes! @Becky, I have the same dream! I'm a teacher, who has an administrator's license, looking for a principal position. However, I'd love to get licensed as a trainer and help others who are in the same spot I have been. I would like to inspire people to know that they CAN do it! And thanks for the comment about not sabbotaging yourself! I needed to read that, as I HAVE been, and have gained 7 lbs.! Take care everyone! Have a beautiful day!
oh no Gina!! horrible, on the RR tracks. yes this morning was last day for prednizone and yes shoulder, right there upper in the blade is killin me! what a bummer huh? rode for one hour, easy and my arm was stuck in the aero! good thing is my leg/ham/butt is feeeling better! about to call the doc to get a steroid shot, it woke me, as I find myself asleep on that right side and the pain wakes me up. yep I know. who needs to swim huh? but now I need my arms to work for riding! my waist is now thick though and I have had the prednizone cry this afternoon! while ON THE BIKE! yes, you can cycle while crying! and in one hour, I had to stop and potty twice! I mean really. the pollen is thick too and I have a dull headache! about to go outside and wash my car and water my plants though and get Grace to take a tennis ball to my shoulder!! already took one aleve. bought some Sbux coffee!! countdown to IM training! i can see the funny side of things. gonna turn the grill on too for some BBq chicken legs. my run mojo is returning and I ran 8 yesterday and 4 this morning, slow, like IM jog pace but still. I was happy to be outside. so this week I thought I would get the bike up and like a juggler shoot for swimming sometime next week. Then work on speed/distance as it comes my way. gorgeous day here, no wind, sunny and warm.. just beautiful. Oh my Orbea has a problem and fortunately I live close to HQ so taking it in tomorrow, road bike so wish me luck with warranty. will see what that means. I know some of the guyz there and really trust them, and I don't want to be out of my road bike and fortunately the tri bike is operational. I have three different styles of run shoes that I am rotating through! and I have fallen in love with descente low rise run shorts that I got on clearance at Team Estrogen, very comfy. wore them this morning. After my short run? I do leg drills, like hopping, jumping, lunges, squats, hip hikes, skipping, kicking and if you read recent USAT publication, basically working on the other planes of movement rather than forward motion. so if Have no more run in me, I still have some bounce! also some yoga poses like the dance one and tree and still working on that triangle one. some abs too in the mix with my fav being the bicycle and double leg raise. can't get the upper body thing going with this pesky right arm/shoulder. ooh, and today while cycling at beach cruiser speed, I worked on circular motion of pedaling rather than up and down.. figured why not? smile. anyways, I continue to enjoy the training no matter the pace and look forward to Ironman training! m
Gina--how's that calf feeling now that the day has worn on? Sounds like a bang up that will take a few days to recover from. So hate those falls, and I'm sorry it happened to you.
So far it's me, m, and Tracy--the hypo triplets. Anyone else having this fun? This has been really , really rough. I had no idea what a nightmare this is. I look at my body, and I almost don't recognize it. This weight gain is atrocious. It's all in the middle fromt he thighs to the boobs. Since I don't know how the heck to get it off without starving to death, I am going to take action:
Doc follow-up tomorrow. New levels taken. I feel better, but far from 100%. I feel weird in the aftrenoon, almost like my body is filling with water. It's strange; in fact my fingers feel like sausages right now. My heart feels funny sometimes--hard to describe. I need to get checked out. Still tired. I bet I need an adjustment. Maybe I need to see an endo? I'm asking about everything.
Going to ask for a metabolic test with one of them MedGem thingies. Penny had one, so it must be good. Doing that test will give me a much better sense of my real baseline metabolism, and I can figure out calorie intake more accurately. I don't care if it's slow to get them off, I just want these 5-7 lbs GONE. If they tell me my baseline is 5 calories burned for the day, I'll believe it. I think it's really low.
Going to hire Penny for a consult or two. I've talked with her on the phone for a project she's working on with a student, and she is terrific. I have been impressed here in the forum, but when you talk to her directly it's even better. Plus, could there be a nutritionist who "gets us" more than she?
So that's my plan. Thing is, the bike and swim workouts are feeling pretty good. The running is ridiculous, but I'll hang in there. Slower than in many years. Whattya gonna do? Just keep on truckin'. The mojo is flowing for Moo so I'm hoping I'll get there in one piece.
Linda, if anyone can help you, it's Penny. She came to my house a few weeks ago with her little machine and tested my RMR. She's super-knowledgeable, super-sweet, and super-accomodating. I hope she can help get you straightened out, and that you get your correct dose of thyroid meds figured out.
Yes, Gina, how is your calf? Be sure to take all the rest that you need , because IMoo is still a long way away. You will have plenty of time to train!
Barbara, there is a Recipes thread here in the Women's forum. There are not a lot of recipes, though, so start adding!
Marianne and others, I wish I had the drive you all have to not only do your workouts but then do core, plyometrics, yoga, rolling, stretching, etc, etc. I try, but the will is weak.
Becky, Dan sounds like The Man!
I race in the Lonestar 70.3 on Sunday, and I have the classic taper irritability. Sunday morning I picked a fight with Tabitha, the sweetest, most sensitive person in the world. I'm such an idiot. Luckily she forgave me after a few hours and I didn't totally ruin our day. Monday I was unreasonably annoyed with several clients that normally I don't let get to me. Today I nearly went insane trying to keep one of our cats from jumping up on the counter while I was cooking. Please, please let me keep my mouth shut until I can dump all this pent-up energy on the race course!
Kristen--that is one of the BEST descriptions of taper nutties I have ever read! If I could tell you how much Keith has had to put up with through the years with various taper crazies...well, let me just say, (almost) we're 29 years married. You make it through, but, man, I feel for the SOs. Too funny.

Night all!!
Olivia, what a cute cute thing for your friends to do.
Marianne, hope you are feeling better
Becky great job!!
Special shout out to the husband who puts up with this craziness!!!!
Thanks again all of you!!!
Sorry if I missed anyone- hope you are all well
okay the cramping lasted about 5 hours , weird, like a brick, couldn't do my WII yoga !! now my sister was wondering if I was celiac? so I had sorta cut out some wheat products but sure enough yesterday had 2 choc chip cookies and then also some of the kids' coated chicken. and then I added in not one but two smoothies@!! but not big ones, anyways downright weird, I only have two more days.
*like the smilies??
@M. glad you got a run in - sorry to hear about your cramping... ugh!
so, ladies, I finally listened to the nutrition podcast Saturday - prior to my 56mile ride to see what I can start working on now that I'm about to enter my HIM 6 week crash course.
Thanks, ladies!
Gosh I can't wait until IMoo!!!!
having a hard work-mojo day.... reading, reading, reading... it's interesting but still... need to take mental breaks between comments to keep myself awake.
You don't have to wait til Moo... I'm happy to be meeting you (and other EN'ers) at EM! :-)
Sorry if I missed anyone.
Taking today as off day. Trying to decide whether to run half mary this weekend with century coming up following weekend (and I get to meet Gina & Su hopefully while down in Chat).
I am still looking for a magic bullet blender than can be operated via battery of out of your car?? smoothies on the go? must buy new cooler for the car as mine is nasty.. one week and counting til D DAY organization!! m
Happy Tuesday, everyone!!
Gina
