Sadness and Uncertainty

Friends-

My 13 year old son Timothy was killed last night.  He was riding his bike with a group that included two adults who have trained young cyclists for decades and he was riding on a road widely thought safe in the cycling community.  Nonetheless, he was struck from behind by a motorist trying to pass the cyclists.  As if not bad enough, his twin sister Olivia saw the whole thing.  I was not on the ride.  The picture above is from a race last summer.

He was training for a draft-legal triathlon.

Our family is crushed, for we have lost a vital young man.  He was smart and tenacious, but now it's over.

I do not know what this portends for our family and triathlon.  Right now, we are pretty numb and having to deal with many other things.
