Bring a Bike Pump?

Question for the vets....Does it make sense to bring a bike pump? I shipped my bike with Tri Bike Transport & they'll have pumps. But I'll be there 7 days before the race and I wonder if it makes sense to put my pump in the duffel bag I'm going to check with the airlines. Thoughts?

Just take your wheels to one of the local buike shops--they will gladly let you use one of their pumps

I bring a portable Topeak Road Morph Master Blaster...not a floor pump, but good enough, with a gauge which goes way over the 100-110 I use.

Fold out handle, fold out foot peg, flexible rubber tube between pump and head all allow it to be used like a floor pump, yet its only a little longer than a foot, and less than an inch in diameter, about half pound weight, so it packs easily

I took my floor pump after learning the hardway at IMWI. None of the pumps I tried worked to pump up my front tire (808 ZIPPS) before the race. TriBike shipped my pump in the extra goodie bag sent with them. For the Kona race I used a known pump that worked on my wheels and handed it off to my sherpas. It was good to get some extra good luck hugs and kisses before the race too.

I always travel with a little lezyne mini floor pump. It's perfect. I take it to transition. It fits in the morning clothes bag.

I have and use the same one Al does. May want to wear gloves or put a cloth over the handle to prevent pumping blisters.

Dino, How does that pump work with a disc wheel? Any issues with clearance given the pump attaches vertically to the valve?

Mark, when I can use a disk wheel cover I use a "crackpipe" to connect to the valve when I use my floor pump. Carl turned me on to this. That pump my be able to be plugged in directly to the stem.

The pump I linked comes with an elbow bend adaptor that works 10x better than a crack pipe.

@mark - I use a crack pipe. It screws to the pump chuck and then it is press fit to the presta valve. The one in Bob's link looks pretty slick tho.

There are abundant:

-pumps on race morning

-athletes with an extra pump to help you out.

There's also one set up outside of Bike Works on the Queen K to top up on the way out for your training rides.

There are plenty of pumps on site but i like to take mine with me and after im done there are usually lots of athletes wanting to use it ...good Karma and fun meeting new friends while breaking the just before jitters...then stow it in your morning bag ...done
