The Purpose of the JanOS Forum

The rest of this forum will be filled with weekly mojo and accountability threads. For example, the JanOS Week 1 Thread, or the JanOS Week 1 Bike Thread, JanOS Week 1 Core Workout Thread, where you'll encourage each other, hold each other accountable, and generally support each other as you build your FAST across your 14 weeks together.

JanOS Captains Wanted:

We are looking for a three members to serve as JanOS Captains to create and guide these weekly thread (bike, run, core). Bang the drum, basically. You will be rewarded with gold, riches, and accollades beyond your wildest dreams (ie, it would be super groovy and we'll figure out a way to thank you!) Please PM me (Brenda) at brenda@endurancenation.us  if you're interested.

Please Introduce Yourself to Your JanOS Teammates!

Please join/sign into the JanOS by introducing yourself by posting to this thread, posting a picture and brief bio using the format below. These are the people you'll be training with, virtually, for months and months so it would be great to put faces and personal stories to names and email addresses!

We recommend that you subscribe to this thread, using the Additional Options dealio visible when you reply to this thread when making your introduction. You'll then receive an email when updates are made to this admin thread.

Finally, understand that the Coaches do not actively monitor these Training Group Forums, searching for training questions and support issues to address. That is, if you have a training related coachy-coachy question, you'll find us in the other forums and specifically in the Micro and Macro Threads!

Thanks! We look forward to seeing what fun and motivation you guys create for yourselves!

  • Hello everyone. I'll start.

My name is Peter and I've been with EN since 20010 or so. This will be my 5th outseason or so. I'm really taking a year off from IM/ 1/2 IM distance. Used up all my SAU of the last few years. So, I have a year or two to get faster. I can't wait. I really enjoy the out season. Quick hard workouts where you feel as if you have accomplished something. I'll be trying to balance this with work and coaching my daughters U10 Select soccer team.

    Can't wait!
  • Jeremy Behler here. Will be my 5th year with EN. I have a pretty audacious goal of KQ at IMWI this year. Will be my 3rd OS (I typically take off every other year from tri for SAU).

    My goals (in order) are:
    1) to drive FTP toward 300 and w/kg to 4.0. I have biked less than 5 times this entire year so it will be my biggest challenge. My last peak Ftp was IMWI '13 where I was around 275-280. I have no idea where I am now but guessing in the 220 range and as such my goals may be too aggressive.
    2) improve my swim navigation. I had a 1:01 swim at IMAZ '11 but IMWI '13 was 1:07 even though I had more fitness. Will try for more OWS during training to support this.

    3) focus on run execution. My running is quite strong right now as I just had a half Mary PR of 1:25:09. My previous IM marathon PR was 3:27 at IMWI '13.

I will be at the wrong end of the AG this year at 39. I just moved to Wisconsin and my company does summer Fridays which will give me an extra 5-6 hours a week free to be able to support training and family time.

I know my goals are stretching but I want to put myself out there and hold myself accountable.
  • Hey everyone. Shaker Brock here. This is my first season with EN and I'm excited to be on the team!!!!
  • Hi everybody

Sandro here from Switzerland. This is going to be my 2nd OS, I joined EN a bit over a year ago.

Goals? Well...besides pumping my core muscles, I "plan" to 'run' an IM 70.3 under 5h and an IM under 11h.

    That said...let's get faster.

My focus will be on running whilst not to lose speed on the bike.

    Happy sweating everybody image

  • My name is Mark.  I live in the beautiful state of NY.  This will be my first year in EN.  I have heard great things about the program and camaraderie.  Completed my first full IM in Lake Placid '14.  I have to say I am hooked.  I wanted to complete another full this year but as I have learned through reading some of the threads that I have to accrue some SAU's.  So we have decided that it is ok for me to do a 1/2 IM this year and a full in 2016.

My goals for the year are to get faster without injury.  If I can do that I would consider that a good year.

  • One more week. Is everyone getting as excited as I am? image
  • This is my second OS. I did my first IM in October and am a bit burned out on long distance. I'm planning a half marathon every month through June plus a du and a few sprints and a HIM in April. I'm Air Force and will I'll move this summer, but have no idea where or when. So no plans after June, for now!
  • Oh, now things are looking serious.

    TR FTP test!

  • Greetings from Cincinnati. This is my third OS. First went great, second was a total loss due to a dislocated shoulder followed by allergy induced asthma during the summer.

I'm actually looking forward to this OS since I know what to expect and hopefully have my allergies under control. I haven't done a long distance race HIM in a couple years so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I've already loaded the first three weeks of bike sessions into the Computrainer and they just resurfaced the track at the local high school that I use for speed work.

    2015 Goals
    - Flying Pig Half Marathon
    - Door County Half Ironman
    - Ironman Louisville (if all goes well)

    Thanks,
    Dan
  • Dan - sorry we never had a chance to meet. I just moved from Cincy to Wisconsin a couple months ago. Our paths may cross in 2015 though as I ay do the Door County Half and IMKY is my backup race.
  • Leah Yeager here and a total newbie with EN. This is my first OS. I am looking forward to a great season and training differently then I have in the past. Signed up for IMAZ this Nov.
  • Jeremy,

I'm actually a former Cheesehead (Milwaukee area) that actually moved to Cincy 2 years ago.  You'll find lots of good tri clubs in Wisconsin.  If you're thinking about the Door County Tri, you'll need to sign up my mid Jan.  I've done the half three times and it's an extremely well run race.  However, registration opens on Jan 1st and is capped at 1000 participants so it will sell out by mid-Jan.

This race is a personal favorite and it means a family trip back to Green Bay to see family and take my son to hockey camp at St. Norbert College.  Hope to see you at the race.

    Dan

  • @ Dan and Jeremy - the Door County Half is selling out VERY quickly these days!  It opens January 1 at 12:01 am and I'll bet there will be people signing up at that time.  I maybe signing up right then as well.  It's my A HIM race this year (no IM this year) - so I don't want to take a chance that it will be sold out.  The good thing is that registrations are transferable.  Last year it sold out on January 8.

  • Kristin Kandiel - This is my first OS with EN. I'm doing my first IM this year, Lake Placid. I'm more of an Oly distance girl but I'm ready for the challenge. I'm excited to get started!!!
  • Hi gang, still looking for a Run Thread and Core Thread captain for the JOS please. Kim Dubord has taken on the task for the bike thread.
  • Excited and ready for JOS! This will be my 2nd OS with EN. EN helped me shave off an hour from my IM run time. Did whistler -2013.

This year I am back and signed up for IM Choo.
Doing a local 1/2 on May 30 to check my progress
    Will attend the Choo camp.

    Cheers to a great JOS
  • Hello everybody.  Joe Matchette here, currently residing in Yorktown, VA and I am officially signing in for the January OS!

This will be my 5th Outseason with the Team and I am very much looking forward to it.

I have been recovering/recuperating from bursitis in my left heel, so running has been very limited this fall.  Like Chris, my running goal is to just stay healthy and keep the bursitis managed.

My BHAG biking goal is to get up to 300W.  I have plateaued at 270 the past two years, but I plan to work the bike as hard as possible consistent w/ the running goal above.  I am changing the OS up this year a bit in that I am going to do the biking on my road bike for the first time.  My pre-OS has been on it, and I am not really noticing any big differences.  In fact, I am so used to my tri bike, that I am actually finding the road bike a bit uncomfortable.

Looking forward to all the encouragement the OS brings!

  • Jeremy-

If you haven't already signed for the Door County HIM, you'll need to sign up by today.  I signed up this AM and just received an email that it's already 83% sold out. This is just a great race which is why it sells out, sort of like the IM races 5-10 years ago.  Let me know if you got in.

  • Mark Forsythe checking in. December illness knocked me out of NOS - going to roll in to JOS in preparation for IM Florida 2015. Will be year two of the three year plan - entering the season with new Hoka shoes, new Cervelo P3 and a Garmin Vector Power meter. Following the plan and ready to see what the year holds!
  • Hi everyone. Larry from Chappaqua, NY. 3rd OS. Actually started the NOV OS but gave up after a week since work went absolutely crazy and my wife pointed out that she actually does like to see me -- everyone once in a while.

I have a wife, three kids under the age of 7 and a crazy job which means long hours - anywhere from 50-100 hours / week. Can never predict my schedule so I quickly realized that if I do not wake up in the morning and get my workouts in...I do not workout. As I am not a morning person this translated to a fail for OS #1. Last year's OS went great and I felt like I finally started to "get in tri shape". Looking forward to building on last year.

Doing Quassy Half and a TBD end of Summer Half.

    Good luck everyone.

  • Mark:

Let us know how you like the Vector. I am considering them myself.

  • Tried to get myself back into consistent training for the past 4-6 weeks but only recently managed to make enough space in my life to accommodate relatively consistent training sessions. I took 8+ weeks after IM Chattanooga and didn't S/B/R a single lick - bought a new house and had a lot of other things to deal with so the time and motivation juts wasn't there. I'm close to having a new pain cave carved out at the new place and I knocked out an FTP test last week so I'm poised to get serious. Goal races for 2015 are Challenge Williamsburg and Kona - tons of time to prepare so I'm not worried about my fitness being in the dumper right now image
  • Hey Gang. I'm Dan for OKC. I wrapped up my first IM (IMAZ) in November with EN, and now I'm ready to do this right for the entire year. Ready to kick off my first JOS!
  • Howdy everyone. Decided to jump into the JanOS group as a way to create more consistency around my nordic ski training. This will be my 7th OS...the only one I missed was the "original peeps" group. I've had a nagging knee issue that is keeping me from running much, but that's OK for now, because my primary focus right now is skiing. I've got the City of Lakes Loppet Challenge the last weekend of January (back to back 42KM races on Saturday and Sunday...first is classic, second is skate), and then the Birkebeiner on February 21st. I'll be doing most of the bike work, but trying to ski instead of run with long skis on Sundays. Looking forward to the fun!
  • Hi - This will be my first OS with EN.  Run/walk is where I am right now for < an hour due to PTT but getting better.  Looking forward to commiserating with like minded folks.

Should I be able to download my OS plan today?  Tomorrow it starts!  I like to be spontaneous but I also like to have an idea of what my workout will be before I lay my head down for the night.  Thanks and good luck to all!  My goal is IM CHOO!

Melissa - use the "View Full Training Plan "button on the right side of the homepage.  From there you should see a Red Buttton/Banner that says "Move/Change Plan".  You can use that today to set up your plan.

  • Melissa, Just go up to "Training Plan" above and select "My Plan". Your plan will be listed there but will probably show week 0 right now. You can change that to "Show Week 1" (or any other week for that matter) so you can see what is on tap for tomorrow and the rest of the week.
  • Not having any luck with this.  When I click on the drop down arrow there are no plans to choose from.  I went to the home page and tried the "View FTP" which took me to the link you mentioned but still no plan shows up.  It highlights in blue but that's it.

A few weeks ago I got curious about what the OS plan held and tried with no success.  After searching the site for a bit I saw that you aren't able to look ahead.  Perhaps this is an IT issue now.

I really appreciate your responses.  Any other ideas??

    Thanks!

  • Melissa- I'm sure we can figure this out.

First, I'm going to assume you are viewing this response in the Forum (not within your email). If not, click the link in your email that will bring you to this post within the forum and we'll go from there.

Now- when you scroll to the top of this page, you should see the headers for Forums, Training Plan, Community, Resources, Camps, Support, and Store.
When you hover over "Training Plan" you should get a drop down list. From that list select "My Plan"
What do you see here? You should see your OS Plan here and as of today you'd be on Week 0.
You can change the weeks by simply clicking on the "Show Week" drop down list.

But If you haven't loaded up a plan yet, or if the plan isn't the Out Season plan, you'll need to load the applicable OS Plan by using the Move/Change Plan

Look for the Move/Change My Plan icon (on the right side of the page) and click on it.
Follow the instructions to load up your first, and subsequent, training plans, per your RoadMap guidance

If you need more help with the Move/Change plan feature, see this screencast: http://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cInl02VIjM

    Hope that helps!
  • Hi All!
Just poking my head in to say I will be with you in the JOS. I live outside Boston.
I have been with EN since 2008, so I guess this is my 7th OS.
I have a low profile these days while I work on my doctorate degree, although I did manage to race IMMD last September.
I have nothing on the calendar for this year, just trying not to get too out of shape now that I spend many hours typing up my big ass project proposal.

I do want to say to the newbies- this is a tough, but engaging protocol. So, if like me, you have to spend a few hours shoveling snow, be kind to yourself if you don't hit the numbers on your next work out.
    Good luck tomorrow!
