Just Keep Swimming. Just Keep Swimming.
There was talk of doing this, so I thought I'd make a thread for all the NOS Swim Camp kids.
I'm looking forward to getting in to the pool and doing technique drills. It's been a while, and I think the mental break after test week will be nice.

Got my swim in early this morning. Only 40' as I forgot my zoomers, but nice drill work. Could feel some stroke fatigue after 1,000yds but the fitness should come back soon.
Let's keep the NOS mojo train rolling thru swim camp!
Today was my first swim since volunteering at IMLP..... lets just say "needs some work"
Weekly core and Cordz during the OS was very helpful. I put in 2200 yds and wasn't drowning near the end. Tired yes, but still better than in prior years where I felt like my arms would fall off after 1500.
I think my swim golf got progressively worse
Well showed up at the Y to swim this morning after dropping my son off at school. Found that the pool was closed! So no swim for me today. Instead did some PT exercises and the Eliptical for 15mins... (I'm still in run jail)
Anyway, I felt like I wanted to complain to folks who might understand. :-) Thanks for listening. I'll get my swim in tomorrow morning instead...
Thanks!
Erik
Erik, I feel your pain. On Friday my wife and I showed up at 5: 30 am at the pool. The local LA fitness pool has 3 lanes. All lanes were already doubled up. So we left because we didnt have time to wait around. Today when we show up, there is not a single person in there. So we're thinking this is great. Chlorine pump wasn't working. 2 minutes later back in the car going home.
@ Erik and Jan: I showed up this morning to a closed gym due to weather.(We had some substantial snowfall here in NW Indiana) Apparently, I was the only one who didn't get the memo.
I've been swimming 3 x week in the OS also working on my form and speed with Masters. Now if I can improve my endurance at my improved speed, I'll achieve my goal time in my first half Ironman this June.
My Swim Golf also got worse as I went so lots of form and fitness to get back in the coming weeks.
That said, I'm sure it will with time... I can count on 1 hand the number of times I've been in the pool in past 12 months!
Thanks for starting the thread!
First day of swim camp............snowed out. I'll try again tomorrow.
Those drills require a lot of thinking for me. After not drowning in the touch and go drill, I felt pretty good.
Did the optional swims the last two weeks of OS, and was rewarded with this sunrise as I left the Y last Friday -

Concerning the 6 position drills- Which ones are they because when I look at the drills there are 10 of them:-(

It's 10 steps, but six drills. Some of them repeat.
Good thread, glad this was started. Did a few optional swims in the OS so yesterday's drill work wasn't too bad. Surprisingly a little sore today. I always hate going to the pool, but when its over it feels really good. Got a long way to go to get into Rich's described "Good" swimmer club. Best swim golf yesterday was 88, 39 strokes/49" (meters).
Got yesterday's swim in this morning. Felt good to swim again. Still working on understanding the different drills, I did my best on them today. My swim Golf scores seemed to go in the wrong direction, but that gives me something to work on... Have fun everyone!
Thanks,
Erik
Yes! happy to talk swimming, I'm looking forward to it. I find it restorative for aches and pains, and great for my fitness level.
Up at 4:30, in the pool at 5:05. I put in 50 minutes and got it all done except the optional set at the end. I was starting to get ragged by then so I didn't want to practice bad habits. I lifted weights yesterday and I could feel it in my arms and shoulders especially at first. It got better as the session went on though. Overall it went well. The second golf set was better than the first and my stroke count across the sets were between 18 and 20 per 25. That's about where I land mostly unless I'm sprinting and then it goes into the low 20s.
Glad to see the team getting their work in. Keep it up.
Only downside was being loopy for most of the afternoon with jello-brain. Math problems were particularly difficult today......
I'm hoping that I will have a mental bounce back on Friday night.
Best swim golf score was 95. Lots of work on my technique needed for sure.
Pool closed Monday due to snowstorm. Biked Monday, ran Tues and FINALLY got to the pool yesterday for my first swim in 6 months. It felt like someone was holding my ankle as I flailed around in the water. I felt super slow! Did 1600 and called it a successful first day. Sore shoulders today and not surprised. Only have room for improvement, but I vaguely remember the same feeling last year at this time. It took 4-6 weeks to shake off the cobwebs.
I had a good swim yesterday. I swim in a 25yd pool.
For 50 yards, I had a best score of 76 and I averaged 88 for the entire session, which includes drills, so that probably inflated it some.
On the progression, I started at 86 and ended at 84.
I feel like I'm getting my stroke back
Erik
I did yesterday's swim today and this time I did the optional stuff too! My golf score was 92 and 93 at the start and down to 88 and 89 for the last two. It's progress. 2,300 yards total. I'm not sure if I'm going to swim tomorrow or just double up with a swim and a bike on Saturday.
