To Run or Not To Run... My Question

OK.  As you will find in many areas, there are local 5ks and other races on Thanksgiving.  It has been awhile since I last raced with the buds and would love to join them Thanksgiving morning for a 4 mile race.

If I shift days and still observe the rest days my week's work is relatively the same.

However, I wanted to get some advice from the team.  What are your thoughts?  (4-mile race vs. 2 x 1.5 mile repeats as planned.)

  • Race! Definitely. It will boost your mojo, and have you'll have fun with friends. Don't miss it.

On holiday weeks, I just move things around as needed. You'll be back on schedule the week after, and none the worse for it.

  •  I third RACE!

  • No question. Race! And enjoy it! I did a Thanksgiving Duathlon yesterday. It was great.
  •  Thank you all for the quick feedback and advice.

A follow up question would be, do you adjust or recalibrate your zones based on race results?

I would. If I PR'd and got a higher VDOT, I would use the new zones. Doesn't really matter if it was not the regularly scheduled test.

  •  Cool.  That's what I thought.

I have noticed some solid results during the mile repeats and am predicting a good race with an improved vDot.

  • Tom,

If it is the Galloping Gobbler 4 miler you race, don't forget that is a hilly race so the times are usually a little slow.  So don't be disappointed if the tiime you run is not quite what you thought on a flat course.  Just sayin...  If you still PR on that course you most definetly have to go with the new Vdot.

Not sure yet if I will make it this year, but if so I'll see ya there.

  •  True... Lindenwood is very hilly.  I have many memorable workout on those rollers.

That said, I do this the combination of the solid workouts and better competition should produce an improved vDot.  (I was in the lead by myself during my first test.)

Hope you can make it.  There are several from Tri Fort planning on making it.

  • Ran and killed it.  Beat my vDot by 2 points.

Trent, it was great to see you again.  Let me know if you ever want to hook up for another workout this OS.

Enjoy the new paces.  We'll have to get together for a track workout.
