Just got off the phone with Ty over at Endurance Sports Travel. They fly to Germany next week to scope out the venue, and will have some information for us come early August. I will follow up with them and get back to you as soon as possible...keep thinking of creative ways to make this happen!!!
Hi Patrick - this thread on this UK Tri site may help with info on the local area, advice & issues this years racers are facing - usual mass-forum stuff to sift through.........!
I am just seeing this it is peaking my interest. Seriously. Anyone have some good selling points I can use with my wife? I told her I would give her more sex if I can race there, but after being married 15 years that doesn't really work anymore. Or did it ever!? I forget.
hi Patrick - I did express interest on here earlier but decided to do IM Lanzarote instead in late May - fits in well with the family & cheap to get to - had to bite the bullet on entry quickly, sold out in record time.
Negotiations with the wife have begun and it isn't sounding too promising to start. For her, IM is not a vacation as I am a bit stressed leading up to race day. I said, "Well, I will go and do the race in Germany and meet you and Nolan in Italy after (she really wants to go to Italy). Her response was, "nope, how about this . . . . you go and do Ironman Texas with Tom (Glynn)."
As you can see, we haven't made it off the continent yet. I have some work to do.
Dave, that might be the greatest picture ever posted! Love the post race beer table. Would love to join you folks internationally but was too complicated with the kids so I am going to CDA. The brewery is close to the finish line right?
And come on big John, work the wife. Go to Germany! Looks like a great race.
I think this is my first post in 2-months! After pulling the plug on the Tour of Cali camp with a gimpy hip, a crushing workload, and a personal nadir on the energy level scale I decided to take 2-months off to regroup on all fronts. Slowly but surely the fire is coming back across the board. I'm going to continue to soft pedal this season and just enjoy myself, but am starting to rebuild my fitness. Yesterday I worked the medical tent at Musselman and happened to see a woman walk by sporting an IM-Switzerland t-shirt. Pretty cool, I thought. That might be fun to get ready for.
So seeing this post has got me thinking. I ran it by E-Dub (my wife) and she did not revolt against the idea initially and after a little web surfing on the venue, she started to really warm-up to it. It could be very feasible and a lot of fun. Coach P are you going to be mended for this escapade? Are folks thinking of bringing children? We have a 6+9 year-old (7 and 10 next year). I think bringing them would be great and if others are bringing children I think that would be absolutely wonderful.
Also, I have 2 German triathlete friends who I used to train with while they lived in Rochester, but who are now back in Germany. They should be able to give some good recommendations on logistics.
Okay, I am in and officially registered for Regensburg next year. Plan is for 2-weeks on the continent from August 3-18th. Bringing spouse (Ellie) and children 10+7. Will likely try to rent a house nearby. Tentative plan would be to fly Toronto to Munich.
Now that I know I cannot do IMCDA next year, this might fit in nicely!!! Though, after Chris' report of Roth, that one sounds fantastic too - especially cuz you can fit in some TdF as well!!!
It's Official -- I am in for Placid and not Regensberg...we have bigger plans (new house) that take priority over a big trip right now...bummed, but (cue accent): I'll be back!

Perhaps a house with fewer steps? We need to get the 2012 trip to ROTH/TdF (ala Chris Malone) geared up anyway!
For anyone else still planning to go next year (I am signed up!), this year's race is on Ironman Live right now (Faris is closing a :49 second gap with 10KM to run). The race course looks great!

Patrick, I have signed up! I don't think I will be traveling with Endurance travel as this would be part of my European vacation though... So happy to see you are organizing this with EN peeps

Sheryl - (In my best Homer Simpson voice) Beeeeeerrrrrrrr MMMmmmmmmm! Ya, most guys are kinda simple that way.
I am truly serious. I will talk further with my wife and will make a decision by EO July. It is doing to be Germany or IM AZ.

@ David, no worries!!! Next time!
A Finish Line teaser. Think of this as your "One Thing."
(I took this at Roth but you get the point)
Dave - Very funny . . . and motivational. :-)
