18 weeks to IMWI

The countdown continues!   Monday??  whassup??

rain here let's see if it interferes with my planned (tues) run!  I won't run in lightening but rain okay... but I hear the big guns out there..!  and it got cool here too.   my son graduates HS this Sunday so I have condensed workouts or will skip due to a busier than normal schedule!   I hope to make the Monday chat tonight.  that was 7 my time....     m

  • I bailed on the Sat ride 'cause the wind was blowing 25mph and gusting. If I had the road bike (Hobbs) here I would probably have still tried it, but I'm not that confident on the TT bike in those conditions. With all the accidents we've had around here lately I think safety should come first!! I did get a great ride in on Sunday though.

I swam this morning but couldn't get the run in as well because I had a dentist appt at 8:00. No way to do all that, eat breakfast, and get to the Dentist in time. SO the run wil have to wait until this afternoon. I really hate that- but it is what it is.

I leave for TOC on Friday and I'm trying to figure out if I'll be able to sneak in the swim before driving to the airport. Doesn't look good but we'll see.

Oh- I probably won't be on the chat tonight- too much to do!
  • Got up at 2am Sat and my legs were still feeling dead so I bailed on the HIM this weekend.  Felt guilty later in the day, and my legs felt a bit better, so I jumped on the trainer for a 2x12 FTP workout and followed that with a 30' HMP/MP brick run.  Sunday, being Mom's day and all, I didn't have a lot of time but managed to get in a 45' 2x10 FTP workout on the bike but no run.  Legs are feeling 'okay' today.  Plan today is to hit some TP run intervals at lunch, and then jump on the bike tonight for a 2x12 or 2x15 workout.  Try to do the same tomorrow.  Figure Wed is a definite no workout day because of travel, and then Thu-Sun my only opportunity for any kind of training will be running - and not much of that even.  So I figure I'll be lucky to run twice those 4 days, and not sure how far/fast I'll even be able to go.  If ends up being completely sans exercise, so be it - I'm not going to stress over it.

Big thing for me will be next week, I'm actually going to get out on the road next weekend and ride - somebody hold me to that please!  First time outside on the bike since......hmmm........IM Canada last year???  So it's time to stop futzing around and start riding again, my run is in a good place in terms of leg endurance at this point, so the next few months will be just trying to add whatever speed is possible during the IM prep to them.  Main goal is to consistently hit my bike workouts for the next 18 weeks.  No more 'saw teeth' on my charts, like last year, just consistent work.

You and me both!!! Let's keep each other honest Tony!
  • Bagged Sat ride because my Mom was in for the weekend. I  planned to do it yesterday, after she left. Then, I  woke up with what I  thought were allergies. As the day progressed I  realized it was the beginning of a head cold and I  feeling crappier. Managed to get in a 1 hr ABP  ride on the drainer.

Woke up this morning with a full blown head cold. Boooo. Will probably bag today's swim and see how I  feel in the am. I  hate feeling poopy, hate being slowed down even more!

  • I hope you feel better Gina. I bagged Sat.s ride due to 65 mph wind gusts here. Rode Sat.s ride on Sun. I'm with Tony and Nemo on the rides!
  • my legs be sore!! image Oof. Total rest day yesterday with the fam in town for Mothers Day.

Totally struggling with the swim these days. Got in 2000 meters today but definitely faded toward the end. With crazy hours in the clinic massaging, manipulating, and stretching, my arms and hands are just trashed. Definitely in need of the upcoming vacation! That being said, expecting a light workout schedule this week due to trying to get everything done prior to leaving on Friday. isn't it funny how it's a mad dash before and after?

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

  • @ Gina: Ack! Sorry to hear about your head cold. You're doing the right thing by resting---it's hard when you've been on a roll with the training, but no point in prolonging your illness. Hope you're feeling better soon!

@ Tony: Next week Nemo and I will be at ToC. Please join us for a virtual road ride date each day. We'll be stalking Antler Doode and our ProTour boyfriends. We can all channel our inner Schleck on the climbs and inner Cancellaras while in aero. image

Did Sat's ride on the cyclocross bike on trails. I bought that bike for winter commuting (no salt shall touch my road bike!) and to try 'cross racing. It's been the best thing ever as an alternative to the trainer. I've put my clip-on aerobars on it for those weekends when the weather is bad and the thought of doing a 3 hour ABP ride on the trainer is just heinous. No PM, but I could have a wheel built for it...Hmmm...more toys!

Long run done this morning. It was 38 degrees! Back in tights and a long sleeve shirt. Pffft! I'm shuffling the schedule around this week as I'm leaving for ToC early on Sat.
  • Oh yeah! Leigh will be with us too at ToC---except she's going to be WAAAY ahead!

@Kitima - ok will do, but you're going to have to spot me stages 1 & 2 because I don't get back from Belize until late Monday evening (5/17) so no riding for me until Tuesday.  And, of course, the only time I'll come close to your mileages will be Stage 7 during the individual TT - actually that'll be the only day where I'll likely rack up more mileage then you all.   But I'll ride every day Tue-Sun, at the very least on the trainer for an hour, in virtual partnership with you guys!

  • Oh, Marianne, I never responded to your Team Captain Q. Sure- we can do it as co-captains. I'll respond in the other thread so Rich knows. He might get really scared when he hears its gonna be both of us!!! :-)
  • Managed to get two hours of intervals on trainer on Sat (the plan said 4 hours, but it was yucky out, so stayed in and compromised, just can't will myself to do 4 hrs on drainer.)  2 hours ABP ride on trainer again on Sunday.  Not too bad, Sunday seemed to go quicker than Sat.....I don't mind the trainer at times, but the road is definitely better for making the time go by quicker!  Had nice dinner out with family for Mothers Day.  Today, Monday, week 16 HIM plan......only one workout......YEAH BABY!  AIP, then core/strength class for an hour.  Done for the day....now for laundry

  • Hey All,

I wish I could say that my legs were dead, but I am happy to report that my shingles have just about healed.  Mine happened to be in my scalp, which means I continue to have ear aches and head aches, but they are getting better.  i actually made it to the pool today and knocked off 3000yrds.    So perhaps I will be able to workout for at least 1 whole week.

    Todd

  • YEAH! Glad to hear the Shingles are improving Todd. Gosh, I just can't imagine trying to train with that kind of pain.
  • Tracy Wood and I had a really FUN visit. She is a doll. Friday evening we went AIP for about 2,000m,. I never, ever would have gone to the pool at that time of day on my own--so there you have chica power at work. Came back to my house, had dinner, and she spent the night. Our plan was to meet up with Michele to ride on Sat. It was raining, then it wouldn't stop raining, so she used Keith's CT and we did 90' in the cave. 3x10 and 2x15. That's enough for me on the drainer.

Sunday the wind moved up here, and it was not fit for riding. Did 50' run on the trails with Keith and Cali off leash. Perfect. That means I only rode 2x /last week. Oh well.

Today it was 60' run--2 x .5 mile; 1 x mile at TP for the set. Then hit the pool for masters and did ~2,200. I need to start getting closer to 2,500 more consistently, but I kinda poop out. It's not going to get any easier, so I think I'll inch that yardage up a little.

Like Tony and others, my goal is to start dialing in my focus a little more. Not get too anal (yet ), but not be so laissez faire either. I skip things on a whim these days, and I'm going to try and do that as the body requires--not cuz I don't wanna.

Happy Week 18 to Go for Everyone!

  • I got pics and video but basically I did the 5 x .5 mile repeats this morning in correct pacing too... 52 spitting rain and overcast with winds. me and dog had a great time and it was a good run! really warmed up and didn't have any quad pain! yeah. went to PT and also swam for 30' moving up in time !! yep, it is coming together. but I am out the door for grace's gymnastics practice.....
  • Legs are feeling a bit sore and I didn't get to ride with Linda and Tracy! Big bummer.
Run yesterday was very half- hearted although I hit my paces. But I didn't stay out the whole time as I just wanted to go home.
Today quads are sore to touch. Did core and pushups this AM. Will hit pool this evening.

Nemo and Marianne- Thanks for captaining the IMWI team.

Tony- jealous about Belize. I really want to get there. But I can't complain too much as I have first 2 weeks of June in Costa Rica for suba diving Cocos.

Todd- I feel your pain. Glad you are almost better.

    Onward with training.
  • OMG manic Monday! Worked a 11 hour day(12 with commute time) got in a run and core set with my sister, ate dinner and then worked on notes for 'let's everyone bring our mostly not very sick kids to the doctor on Monday'. Finally finished about 9:30 but will still need to put about another hour into it tomorrow getting them into our heinous EMR. Sister is going to meet at my work after hers and we will do the swim. Still coughing and still getting offered a Zpak by my colleagues but didn't cough at all while running and didn't hit my TP pace well for the repeat because I was :20 sec/mile under, oopsimage so the legs are good and the lungs are getting there. Off to bed soon. Looking forward to hearing about the TOC adventures next week.

    Lynne
  • Did my first  mile repeat workout yesterday in 3 weeks after tweaking my calf during my last FTP test.    A little tightness but no cramping or pain, good confidense builder with Mooseman 70.3 quickly approaching.

Was going to hit the roads this morning at 4:30 for my bike workout, but since it is only 34 degrees I think I hit the trainer for my intervals and then head outside for the run.

Crazy weather here in NH, we've had spring, summer and winter all in the past week !!

  • You folks up north really have had some crazy weather!

I was AIP at 6:30. I gotta say, I'm loving the new swim workouts. They keep my brain entertained a lot better than the old EN workouts.
  • Yeah, NE weather is always like that. Like Bob said, we've had three seasons in one week.

EZ run with Cali this morning. Puppy off leash on the trails, me sticking to my EZ workout pace as described. Everybody happy. I have a swim on the schedule for this afternoon. We'll see with work if that needs to be pushed off to tomorrow. I plan on AIP, but I'm kinda behind on a project--or three. image

  • Thank you Nemo and Marianne for being our IMMoo co-captains!

@Todd: Glad to hear you're getting better!

@Lynnette: Welcome! Yes, EMR's are heinous and expensive too. I never got one for my practice, but all my docs have one. So my visits to them consists of me talking and them nose in laptop typing. EMR's are supposed to pay for themselves in 3-5 years from all the increased billing revenue...hence all the typing!

No AIP for me this morning---just so stinking tired from the long run yesterday. Will get out this afternoon after work for a short run with some drills.
  • I did the bike, then no shoes in the car??!!! so went swimming and then ran on the track behind the pool.. up to 30' swimming and got to use a tempo thing that made a beeping noise in my ear! I liked it. set to 1:32 whatever that means! overcast today meant running at 1 p.m. was about 77... and a bit humid. did my PT exercises so life is good!
  • Got the swim in today--2,200 rather than 2,700 the plan calls for, b/c I am still building up some swim stamina. Today I got bored swimming alone. Tracy come baaaack! Even better swimming with Tracy than masters--on the same page and all that.

HA! During the workout (I think) I got hit on in the pool! Was sharing with some dude who said he "noticed" me on Friday night (when I was there with Tracy), and said he thought, "wow, that woman swims with a beautiful stroke." Yeah, yeah, yeah. I had to laugh. I think he was in his 30s, but would never have had a prayer no matter what.

  • That's fantastic, Linda! Hilarious. And I will admit one of the perks of practicing good body rotation is I get to check out my neighbors in the pool. Who swims at eight at night on a Tuesday? 30 y.o.s

I got up this morning and promptly sent myself back to bed. It was very rainy and windy last night, so didn't sleep very well because the windows were rattling. 3x10 in the books for tonight. And core. Those new watts? Ouchy. Time to bring on the mental toughness.

  • smile.. why Linda you have such a beautiful stroke!! well at least that is better than some of the grief you have gotten in the past! gonna run long tomorrow and need to get in bed... two weeks ago I ran with my running mentor and tomorrow the same and it has been 2 weeks since I have ran with peeps!! just now thought of that! anyways, so you can see that she runs 20" and then walks 40", and is mid 60s... but been running for 30 years.. so I do my thing and she always mentors new runners. so I will warm up with her no matter the pace and then run on with my intervals and then return to her. now I know y'all would love to run 10+ miles but guess what?? not too many people out there do! wrote a report in the Race/training forum, add your pics to it!!...

  • Linda- that sure does beat some of the other responses you've gotten at the pool. Didn't someone spit on you there once? HA! Hey, I'd take that compliment any day.

Beth- new watts hurt. But you'll get used to them!

Marianne- I love that you still hook up with your running mentor. Mine now live too far away- but I'd love to run with them if I had the chance.

I'm turning this week into a "run focus" dealio since I won't do any running next week. It's nice to actually feel confident enough about my running to make it happen.
  • did the long run... and the part that I am proudest of??? was that I cut back the workout!!! well it shoulda been 25' and then 3 x 5'.. and 20' was all I did and then did 2 x 5' and the pacing was getting slower and my hamstring, left was tight and bothersome so?? I didn't push thru the pain..!! yep I cut it short and I am proudest of listening in. now granted I covered 11 miles of ground and some very easy.... and so those zones were after mile 7.. if by myself will do those beforehand. as I haven't run 11 since summer 09. it was 82 when I finished and I bet the humidity had died down from 84% to less but still a warm humid run, and actually I lost one pound from 6 a.m. when I weighed to 11 when my hair was soaking wet from shower. so?? yep it is now warm that I gotta drink a bit more post run, I did drink but will up the ante now that heat has come. anyways.. a very nice run. at one point, I thought of the EN chicas... I was about to do another 5' interval in zone 3... it was hot and I bet I was on mile 9ish... and some disco song came on my IPOD! I just laughed out loud and took a break in the recovery! m
  • Linda: What a lovely stroke you have! It's nice when they notice. image

Marianne: Nice run! Good to hear you're feeling better all around. Can't even imagine running in temps > 70 degrees right now.

Beth: I thought of you and your new power zones while riding today. Channeling the Moo-jo!

New training routine for me today: On Wed afternoon, I have to be at the Wound Clinic to supervise the hyperbaric chamber. Because the podiatrist is also there and the way he does his clinic consumes all the time and energy of the staff, I basically have 4.5 hours to just sit around (instead of seeing patients). So today I brought my trainer and tri bike to work and rode in my office. No fan so the 3 x 10 were HOT. Otherwise, it was nice to ride my bike and earn $$$. Woohoo! I'm leaving my trainer in the office and will bring the bike next Wed. I can do my brick run on the treadmill in the PT department. Who needs a gym, right? image
  • Weather's been a bit unpredictable so a bit of changing up. Long run on the agenda for tomorrow and looks like weather will finally cooperate. Super busy at work this week. Not sure what's up but crazy and lots of stress/anxiety! Yikes!

@Kitima- envious that you could work a bike into work day! I can imagine the looks you'd get if someone opened the door to the middle of a FT set!

@Marianne- glad to hear the running is coming along. I know what joy and peace you find running.

  • Marianne- I'm proud of you too!! Great job, and such good news too. This is the year of the EN Chica Comeback!!!

Kitboo- you need to get a fan for your office! Ugh!
