    • Welcome to the Final Race Prep Phase! Here are some key events you will want to keep in mind over the next few weeks:
      • Week 11 = Big Day of Swim, Bike & Run on that Saturday.
      • Week 15 = Camp Weekend / Race Rehearsal #1
      • Week 18 = Race Rehearsal #2 on Saturday
  • @Paul, great to see you in the thread, I've been waiting for this to kick off! It's going to be EPIC! I'm it's like night and day from Mt. Mitchell!
  • thats too fast for me ! hah
  • FYI:
    IRONMAN Louisville Race Director Webinar
    Wed, Jul 26, 2017 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM CDT
  • edited July 27, 2017 12:58PM
Above are the slides from the Race Director's webinar, all are new except for the schedule, tat has yet to be finalized, so they used the 2016 version.

This year they will have a wave start by times, with people standing with time boards where you line up, i.e.  1:00 - 1:10, etc, likely 10 min. interval signs.

Also the race was confined to be at 16 1/2 hours not 17, and will have a start time of 7:30 am.

You can see the webinar on the BecomeOne Facebook page likely later today or sometime soon if you want to see it, based on what they said.
  • Great stuff @Brian Smith, thanks!  Run course change looks pretty minor.  I know in years past a lot of slower folks lined up early for the swim; hopefully they'll realize it doesn't matter when you start since everyone gets the same amount of time to finish
  • @Paul Curtin

Thanks Paul, on other thing they stated was that they will have the Pros back this year, the ones that are not at Kona that is....

If anyone want details on what was said , let me know and I will post my limited notes on here as well...
  • After careful consideration and help from Coach P on this, it looks like i am doing LV as my 2nd IM this season.
Looking forward to training & motivating each other in the forums!

I am curious what hotels people are staying in? I did this in 2011 and stayed in the Galt, I am thinking of getting the Hyatt or Marriott that are closer to the finish line..

it would be great to be in the same hotel as a concentration of ENers..
    thanks!
  • @Scott Dinhoferthat's great to hear. I am staying at the Residence Inn downtown Louisville. It is pretty close to everything.
  • Ditto on Brian's comment above.  The RI is the closest property to the transition area.  The other hotels are mostly near the finish line
  • @Paul Curtin - are you also staying at the RI?
  • I havent book anything so if anyone wanna share accomadation with me, let me know

I will not be a bad person, I promise =)

  • @Scott Dinhofer -- yes ... stayed there last year and IMO it's the best location; most of the walking is to/from transition except for after you finish; took an Uber last year from the finish line back to the RI
  • I'm in the SpringHill Suites Downtown, which is kinda between TA and the finish area.
  • @Scott Dinhofer
I am staying at the galt, didn't know the area very well so opted to book the recommended location...
  • Did the big day today instead of tomorrow, as per the train plan, and the one thing I learned is, no matter what anyone tells you wind is not your friend....when you turn around and think it will be at your back it slaps you in the face again!

Of the 60 miles ridden today, I about 45 mile of head wind of roughly 15-20mph, making the waves large enough on Lake Michigan look like an OP Pro Surf location, and the sand off the beach like a sand blaster, not fun!

Have a good training day for all of those doing their big days on there training plans!

    My info from today:
    - 1 hour swim: 2,679 yards
    - 4 hour bike: 60.5 miles
    - 1 hour run: 5.09 miles

Its a start, I hope to get faster in the weeks up to the race...
  • Just booked my room at the Seelbach Hilton, they were no more places at the RI.

Planning on arriving Thursday and leaving on Monday.

Trying to get a sense of how many people we have coming from EN? hard to tell on this thread.
I've created a google doc for planning some of what I put up below -

I am also curious how many people are coming Hawaiian style - Alonnah? I will be in that camp.. (there's a column for it on the sheet!)

It would be good to try and organize some daily meet ups around the items we need to do.
    • Practice swim, whenever that is
    • Friday drive of the bike course
    • perhaps a coffee/gatorade meetup after bike check in on Saturday, off our feet, but have a roundtable discussion on race plans, 4 keys, etc?
    • team dinner? I'd vote for Friday as I am going to arrive later on Thursday, haven't looked I don't think there is a team EN Super Sherpa yet
    • Saturday afternoon movie, great way to kill 2 hrs off your feet
    • anything else? lmk and we can add it to the sheet

  • @Scott Dinhofer I like the way you are thinking. As of now, my wife is coming with me; however, her work commitments may change that. At any rate, since this is the first time I have done a race with the team I am all about the knowledge download. I booked a place through AirBnB a few months back in the Nulu area. Close enough for me. 2 hour ABP ride this morning on the trainer, a late start after 9 plus hours of sleep, but so worth it. Second consecutive 15 hr week in the books.
  • @Scott Dinhofer - I'd love to schedule some meet ups, group swim, course recon, etc... I will be solo until Saturday afternoon when my sherpa flies in.   @Derrek Sanks I will be at the Spring Hill Suites as well.
  • @Scott Dinhofer I am in for everything, I am coming alone also.

Your document is in view only mode, cant edit

    should be good now
  • Hello all...I will drop my into in the spreadsheet as well. I am not sure if my wife and the family are coming or just my wife, so my info in there may change.  Looking forward to meeting you all in person and getting the lay of the land...
  • @Brian Smith @paul curtin @Francis Picard @Jeff Kane @Sabra Gonzalez @Derrek Sanks @Brian Hagan

added to the Google sheet a column for hotel, i am between the RI & the Springhill suites... looks like a room popped up at RI.. but I want to be sure me and Francis can get into the same place... I think we are both alonnah..

    the sheet is here
  • Thanks Scott ... sheet is updated for me
  • @Scott Dinhofer, updated on my end. Thanks!
