Where is the Best Place to Analyze Data from PowerTap P1?

I just received my PowerTap P1 pedals and got them installed on my road bike last night. They were straightforward enough. I did a workout on the trainer and now I have all of this great new power data in several places - Garmin Connect, Training Peaks, Strava, Virtual Training, etc.  Where the best place for a beginner to power training to analyze this data? I have read several of the tips on power training and know I need to keep it simple for now.

  • Training Peaks is great and Strava Premium has basic metrics I find useful as well which include TSS, w/kg, etc...

  • Training peaks "premium" is the best place to "analyze" power data because you can click and drag to select certain sections, etc.  It'll also keep track of the more advanced metrics like TSS, TSB, etc.  But if you use your lap buttons at the right times you can get most of what you need on Garmin Connect (NP for certain sections, etc).

If you're new to Power, this thread from several yrs ago is a good thing to check out in order to just keep it simple at the beginning and grow from there...

  • Thanks @Shaughn Simmons and @John Withrow. I do have have a paid Training Peaks and that's where I reference most of my training now. I will keep an eye on the power metrics there. I actually have a Strava premium account as well, so I can cross reference the data there too.

Thanks for linking that thread also - I will be sure to check it out!
  • If you've got TP premium, you can also use a middleware site like tapirik to have the files cross-populated all over those similar sites.

I use TP as a coach, but TP "basic" as an athlete doesn't provide much analysis IMO.
  • @Todd Middlebrooks I am also a beginner to power training and have been using P1's for 2 months. My bike computer is a Garmin Edge 500 so I keep all my data at Garmin Connect. For sessions on the trainer I do just what @John Withrow suggested. Every segment is a lap so I can have accurate data for each set; for example the warm-up is lap 1 and if the drill of the day is 2x20' (2'), lap 2 will be after the first 20' then lap 3 will be the 2' easy and lap 4 will be the second 20'. By doing this you also get averages per lap (segment)
  • PowerTap provides free software which works seamlessly with data from PT devices:

  • Thanks @Scott Alexander and @Jorge Duque for the great tips. I'm using a Garmin 820 to capture all of my data which then pushes it out to TP Premium, Strava, etc. I like the lap tip too - that will help when analyzing data afterwards.

@Al Truscott Thanks for linking to their software. I actually hadn't seen that before, so I will check it out.
