In my best fatherly voice, Be careful out there people I really am getting tired of hearing about people crashing there has been to many crashes. I am glad everyone has been fine afterwards but it puts a pit in my stomach every time I read a story like this.
Thanks so much for this update. It is so jarring not to have updates from Linda on FB
I am local as well (I might be the closest person to the hospital actually- kenmore sq) so please let me know if there's anything at all needed.I know the Patches have a lot of support - they give so much and it will certainly be coming back to them!
yep I have been feeling ill all day since I saw the news on FB. Gina glad you called and patrick too. please let her know that me too am thinking of her and almost called but honestly it gets too much and you get hoarse just repeating all of it. just sick about this. handlebars exploding?? yep worried too. m
Thanks for updates. For folks who are close by if you set up any kind of fund to help pick up meals or other comforting gestures for the family please let us/me know as I would like to contribute. It's so hard to care and be so far away where you can't do anything.
Im not sure if I want to see pics...if there arn't any pics then it ididn't happen. I wish this didn't happen. I remember when my husband broke his hip in cycling accident three years ago. It was so scary. But he came back in no time and so will Keith. In the mean time he can watch TDF all month.
I did order Road IDs for me and the hubby this afternoon. FIgure a little scratch pieceo of paper in my bento box isn't enough.
ditto here on $$ for any meals that I can mail to somebody. or anything else for that matter, very hard long distance. just let me know. good on vision, scary on bike though. m
OMG...I am so sorry to hear about the accident. Really makes you think about riding by yourself. Our thoughts and prayers are with Keith for a swift recovery and for Linda and her family in making the best of this terrible situation. Best wishes, Dave
Holy cow. My thoughts and prayers are with Keith, Linda, and their family. So glad that someone found him and called 911. Seems like he was able to get help pretty quick.
Sometimes I feel over cautious when I grab my I.D. and insurance card for every bike or run but with all of the accidents this year it's almost crazy to be out there without it.
Ditto on sending funds to help out. My fire dept. is my 2nd family and if a guy is down, we all do what it takes to help that person and it's cool to see that inside the EN house. Also good on the person that helped at the accident.
Keith, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family and I hope your on the mend soon. there are alot of great folks here that care and want to help.
Thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. Sending you California "good vibrations" your way! To the group or individuals arranging contributions....count me in!
It is funny, looks like there are two of us that have orbital repairs via plates (literally plates holding our head together). Mine is from a car accident 15 years ago almost to the day. Late June is bad in my life for whatever reason.
Enough about me I know Linda is swamped. However for those chatting with her please pass along that since we are local if there is anything we can do let me know. I have a kindle that I can drop off that could read some of the fun engineering books I have on it to him (since I assume reading is out of the question). Obviously I am always up for getting some contraband (like candy) past security
great idea re: food delivery or something... keep up posted.
and it seems like we all had the same idea re: road IDs...I don't always remember mine and my BF doesn't have one at all (I just learned) and he was in a crash just last week, thankfully far far far less serious - I informed him that I will be "surprising" him with one once he tells me what kind he wants. And I'll probably get 2 for my shoes (I rotate pairs in training) so I can't forget to put one on when I run (and have the wrist/ankle for biking).
Road IDs are a MUST. I even wear mine at the gym. I would recommend the ankle one. I originally had the shoe one, but you can get separated from your shoes. Then, you might as well not have the Road ID. I have all the colors and move the tag so I can be all coordinated (OK - I usually leave it on the black).
Just texted with Linda. IMWI is likely over for her. Possible surgery Friday for facial fractures. Offered to make a big thing of lasagna for the boys. I can even do a veggie version. Food service- gotta be a few in this area- lots of entrepeneurs. Will try to look this evening.
Steve Ford- get that business up and running already!!!

Michele that is really kind of you....thanks for representing all of us nation peeps!
Also just got off the phone with Linda. Moo Camp is absolutely out. For now, everything else is on hold and I encouraged her to just take each day as it comes right now. No need to worry about the Maine Vacation or IMWI just yet. She's concentrating on just making the decisions she needs to make for today (like weather or not to move Keith to another hospital for the surgery). On a positive note, this happened during the summer months which means she has all her boys home with her. Those boys are very close with their parents and as young adults they can actually offer a lot of help on many fronts. Linda said the boys are doing well and helping her to handle all of this.
She asked me to let you all know that she is reading your posts and has found them all VERY helpful. But she doesn't have the energy/time right now to respond in the Forum (and of course I told her we all understood!!!) Please do continue to post your encouragement and/or any specific offers of help/advice you may have (esp folks who have experience with similar injuries) and she will reach when she and Keith are ready for some of that help and advice.

Just read this on Facebook. Holy cow how awful. Lots of positive thoughts and prayers coming from the Socie family.
Do we know what hospital he is at?
Healing vibes for everyone on this site.

Good thoughts!
This community is awesome, by the way.
Just heard from Linda again.
Vision seems secure, surgery for facial fractures down the road. Is going to post bike pics later.
I was speaking with my neighbor (avid rider, former wrench), and the "steerer tube" issue with Trek/Lemonds is being investigated by CPSC.
I will keep you guys posted.

Just reading about this now ... oh my, oh my, oh my. So glad the injuries seem healable.
My wife won't let me leave the house without Road ID. I even wear it in a race, holding my chip.
