  • Gearing up for my 10th OS with EN. Given the shape I'm in not expecting this to be a record breaker but going for consistent cycling and a walk/run combo as I work my way back in to shape.

    Goals for the OS

    • 3X weights/core week
    • minimum 38 of 42 bikes or 90%+
    • walk/run should not be an issue as I can do this to and from work 4-5X/week
    • weight loss 24lbs over the OS or 1.71 lbs / week

My biggest challenge will be keep my energy levels up and work the OS around my 21 month old and helping out my wife as she rehabs her shoulder that had surgery around 5 weeks ago. For this reason I'm okay with less intensity and just getting in some riding/running early on in the OS.

I have no races on the horizon but am considering some local races 5K, 10K, maybe a sprint tri in June. If I can work in some time for swimming the Calgary 70.3 on August 11 would be nice otherwise it's some more fall running races.

  • Hi all - I’m new to EN. 43, Washington DC, back-of-packer. My first full IM effort was IMMD 2016, though sadly the swim was cancelled for that race and bike shortened, so I then did IM Santa Rosa in 2017. While I won’t rule out another full, I really enjoy the 70.3 distance and plan to focus on 70.3’s in 2019. Unfortunately, I’ve had a nagging glute / hip flexor injury that ended my 2018 season early and derailed my fall, so while I joined EN in October I’ve been focused on PT. I’m re-starting regular run/walking and will have a bike focus this OS. My A races for 2019 are Mont Tremblant 70.3 and NC 70.3, deferred from this past fall. My goals for the OS are (1) re-establish a consistent workout schedule, (2) get down to my previous racing weight by May (net loss of 0.7 lbs per week from 1/7 through end of April), (3) re-establish a solid base of fitness, and (4) find and take the time to do the stretching / massage / PT work I now need to make a regular part of my schedule.

  • Looking forward to my 3rd OS in prep towards my 3rd IMMT. Simply planning on getting a little better each year and getting to know you all over the next few months.

My challenge is always travel for work. I’m an onsight service consultant for a medical device. Live in CT, travel into New York City for work 2 days out of the week and have sporadic road trips depending on work demands. Week one is going to be tricky as I’m booked out of state Friday-Sunday but determined to make this a great out season.

  • @Gordon Cherwoniak - love the specific goals.. need to rethink my goals and motivations!!

  • 4th OS this year. Goal is to stay healthy and actually get through this one. Doing the Bike Focused plan. I always seem to overdo the run and get injured so just going to try to maintain a consistent run volume that I know works for me right now. Put in some work on the bike and build some fitness there. Looking forward to seeing what this year will bring.

  • Happy New Year everyone!

I'm Chris Davis, 42 years old, live in The Woodlands, TX (just off of the IMTX course). 4th year with EN, but I've been injured for the last 2 years, so only my 2nd OS.

My goal for the OS is to get back "into the game" and stay injury free to set me up for a late season 70.3 and a big 2020.

  • Hello everyone, 38 year old female from middle of nowhere central Ilinois, jumping in with my first real OS.  I was a brief member in 2013 but an injury knocked me out of the endurance scene for awhile.  I have completed several sprint and Olympic tri events but hoping for my first 70.3 this summer, either Muncie, or a local independent event the following weekend.  The 2019 schedule also includes some short course tri events,  a couple 13.1, a handful of 5k/10ks, and maybe some distance cycling events?  My goals for the OS are: to drop some weight (10lbs would be nice) and improve body composition, a 10% FTP boost on the bike and hitting the minimum of 4 runs per week.  Looking forward to putting in the work alongside you all!

  • Jennifer Eckert, member since 2011. Retired since I was 55, married with 3 children, 5 grandchildren, a geriatric dog and cat. I'm in the 65-69 Age group, and coming back after a low back injury in Jan of 2017. Weird injury..getting jacket out of closet and back popped, knee buckled and it hurt like a *^$*#*!! Lots of physical therapy (still go for maintenance) acupuncture and core work to remain active.

I did the Run Durability Program October through December and then the 8 day Holiday Run Challenge. I've never run 8 days in a row before and it felt great to complete that.

I have completed 6 Ironmans; Florida, CDA, Canada (Penticton), Arizona, Mt. Tremblant where I qualified for Kona 7 weeks later.

May 5th -- "The Ave" a half marathon in the redwoods of N. Calif. (with my daughter!!)

    June 2nd - Victoria 70.3

July - Mtn. Bike Duathlon in Montana

Sept 2 - The Rut; high altitude 11k in Big Sky Montana.

I live in Idaho during the summer months of June through part of September and leave before the weather is awful. They have 2 seasons in Island Park....July and Winter!

Looking forward to reading about all the progress...it gives me incentive to keep going! Hoping my back holds up for the race schedule I've put together.

  • @Julie Pfeifle welcome! Our age group gotta stick together! Not so many of us left.

  • A little late to the game, but this is my 5th or 6th OS - I can't remember.

A few years ago a started doing my own WO's - sorry Coach P. For the bike, I primarily do the same 3 WO all OS on TrainerRoad. The Wretched on Tuesday, There is No Try on Thursday and Centennial on Saturday.

The Wretched and There is No Try are Sufferfest WO and I love them - toughest WO's I've ever done and more importantly they keep my head in the game for the entire WO, I never get bored.

I will never do another FTP test - been doing this for the past 4 years or so. Rather I know my FTP by doing the WO's on a consistent basis. When they become easier i increase. If I struggle I decrease. I'm sure some of you are rolling your eyes, but hey, it works for me. Guessing I'm 95% correct anyway....

Running has been a struggle for me - my back has been giving me a lot of problems. Getting the kinks worked out, but my window for Lake Placid is getting smaller and smaller....

    Cheers team!

    Chris

  • @Chris Ciannella : I’ve been a Sufferlandrian for the past few years... Angels has been my drug-of-choice. Just downloaded The Wretched, appreciate the recommendation. I’ll give it a shot tomorrow. I train in ERG mode on my Comoutrainer. Will switch to a smart trainer this spring. A friend assures me that the suffering increases when the resistance skyrockets on those attacks. I had great fun on a EN Zwift ride today. I believe that the success of EN athletes racing on Zwift is largely due to the time they are working in the zones well above threshold. I share your technique of just adjusting FTP based on feel... and frankly, my need to recover. I am also struggling to stay back healthy while running. Have done Lake Placid a few times: My favorite course. 2019 will be a 70.3 season for me... unless somehow I end up at a Nov IM.

  • Age 47 from Salt Lake City. I'm also a member of the Salt Lake Tri Club for my local support.

I had been listening to EN podcasts for the past year or so and decided to give the Outseason plan a try before season training starts in April or so. My 2019 races so far: IM Calgary 70.3 and IMAZ. In 2018 I finished my first 70.3 (Victoria) and then completed another one (Indian Wells). Now that I'm feeling better about being able to meet the cutoffs, I'm ready to push myself. I'm doing the Outseason (run focused) to keep the run durability I've already earned while adding to it. I need to be able to add some really serious weekly miles if I want to finish the full in one piece. Knee niggles are my only real issue and I consider myself lucky for that!

Running 4 days a week has not yet been accomplished. I'm shooting for 3 days minimum because we are having an epic year for skiing!
