2019 Triclub Competition Update and Admin Thread

Our sixth year of participating in the Ironman® TriClub Competition is in the books! We had some tough competition from the folks on TriDubai, who edged us out for the Global Division 1 crown (final standings here).. But we’ll be back!

If you are not familiar with the TriClub Competition, it’s a way for us to compete as a Team by scoring participation points in Ironman® events.  If you want to learn more about the program, please go here. Full details about how the program runs, points system etc. can be found here. I strongly suggest you review this upon signing up or if you have been signed up for awhile, as things change.

Starting the 2019 season, as your Race Director I will be doing less “managing” the Team, and more "directing" -- now you can find and check your personal tri club status here and see the overall standings here.

Your Actions:

  • Already affiliated with Team Endurance Nation? Check your status on this list.
  • Not sure if you are affiliated with Team Endurance Nation? Check your status on this list.
  • Not on the list at all? You can create / manage your account here.
  • Already have an account with Ironman® But need to change your club affiliation? Send an email directly to Rachel.Spellman@ironman.com and ask that you be affiliated with EN.

Weekly updates On event points and our total points standing will be in this forum thread, so you can check in after every weekend of big racing to see how the team did. If it’s easier, click the “Star” at the top to receive email notifications.

Thanks Team!

Brenda

  • got anemail from IM about changes in team competition for triclub, I assume you got... don't know what it means... second for triclub this past year?

  • edited February 21, 2019 6:35PM

@Patricia Rosen - I have not gotten anything, so I checked their website and here are the rules with regards to the competition from their website. Its worth reviewing if you are new or have been part of the triclub competition from its inception. Takeaways that I think that some might need to know about is:

    1. You must be opted in to either "announcements" or "TriClub Newsletter" to receive priority entry links. Click here to check your email preferences.
    2. Using the Age Group Ranking Points system (AGR); the total available points for a full-distance IRONMAN is 5,000 points, for an IRONMAN 70.3 is 3,500 points and Olympic Distance 1000 points.
    3. AGR points are calculated based on the athlete’s race finish time behind the first finisher in his/her age group. Points continue to drop as the race time increases, until the points reach a "point floor," at which point they don’t drop any further and every athlete after this will receive the value of the “point floor.”
    4. The program offers TriClubs two different annual Competitions. A virtual Competition – the Global IRONMAN TriClub Online Ranking and an Onsite Competition – the IRONMAN Regional TriClub Championship.

    IRONMAN TriClub Global Online Ranking

TriClub points are calculated using IRONMAN’s age group ranking system. Any time an athlete races for their club at either an IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3, 5150 Event and select WTS Olympic Distance Races they generate age group ranking points for themselves as well as their TriClub. TriClub points are cumulative over the course of a calendar year. The more a TriClub member races with IRONMAN, the greater number of points are credited to the clubs ranking.

    IRONMAN Regional TriClub Championship

Clubs registered in the IRONMAN TriClub Program compete in a standalone Regional Championship event, held annually at a selected event in each region.

In the Regional TriClub Championship Final, only the top five individual athlete results from each of the registered clubs will be added together to receive a club grand total. The Club with the most points in each division will be crowned Regional TriClub Champion.

    CLUB AFFILIATION

Athletes can change their club affiliation ONCE during one year. Points that an athlete earned UNTIL change date will stay with the old club. Points that will be earned AFTER change date will go to the new club.

  • I just sent it to you by email....

  • @Patricia Rosen

Thank you. Here is the new information. @Coach Patrick @Mariah Bridges - FYI

    NEW YEAR, NEW TRICLUB PROGRAM!

With the new year in full swing, we want to share some big news:

    – IRONMAN TRICLUB PROGRAM got a makeover!

Since 2012, we’ve been building and continuing to innovate tools to better grow and manage our events. Over the past 7 years, we have kept you in loop on our ideas and seen incredible growth based on the changes coming from your feedback. This year we have taken an even bigger step!

    TRICLUB PODIUM: FREE-FOR-ALL

As a part of our makeover, we have drastically changed our TriClub Podium On-Site Competition point calculation to better level the field. Regardless of your club division, you will be racing against all other clubs for the top 5 podium spots overall.

    HOW DOES IT WORK?

The top five individual AGR athlete results from each club will be added together to receive a club grand total. The top 5 clubs with the highest score, no matter the division, will be given a standing ovation on the podium with their trophy. So the more athletes racing from your club, the better your clubs chance of winning!

  • is this just for individual events? might not make much of a difference in the long run... seems totally confusion to me...

  • @Patricia Rosen They change the rules every year, which is par for the course. In their defense, they are trying to find a way to motivate and engage a large group of very outspoken participants.

My understanding is this: your scoring for race day awards is based off of the top five age group performances of your team on the day. This way a team with five members can legitimately compete with the team that has 55 members. All points will still accrue online for the global championship which will be scored at the end of the year.

  • It's clear to me they are trying to move the needle away from one team (the largest) from dominating the competition as we have. They are no introducing a qualitative measurement to the equation. If you have more people, you have a better chance, if you have fast people, you are going to dominate. If you only have fast people in a small region, you will win that region... but not overall..

  • @Brenda Ross , thanks for the updates! Didn't Wattie Ink win global division 1, Tri Dubai 2nd place and we got third place?

We may not have won this year, but I like the challenge; good motivation for the team!

  • We didnt win because i didnt make points this year.

  • @Larry Peters Hard to say... Wattie Ink was in a different division...they just got a ton of points and then IM decided to rank the overall competition by total points vs by division (as they had done in the past). *sigh* Regardless, its a great program and we want more people playing along.

Since 2019 is the year of Self Service, you need to confirm you are on the IM Roster here.

  • Hi Team, looks like we have started out really strong this year thanks to the likes of @Patricia Rosen and @Robert Sabo @jeff wisot and @Kristan Croom. We are currently in 3rd place in our Division and we have only raced 5 races. Nice work everyone.

  • We had some serious racing going on this weekend. Here are the results.

Dave Tallo snagged a spot to Kona and Kori had her first podium spot on her bday with 5th place. Chime in with any other highlights you might have.

  • We are in full swing of it now. Things usually start to shift after Ironman Lake Placid and we start to move upward, but with the new rules of only TOP 5 competitors from our team counting toward the Triclub Competition this may change this year. So far we are holding steady in 3rd place. Still a podium spot.
