EN Calculator for Run/Walk racing method ... have you used it?

For those of you who have used the run/walk method in a race do you have a goal interval run pace? For example run a 9:30 pace for ten minutes then walk one minute. Looking at the calculator in this link there are several ways of executing this. You could run at a chosen pace for X chosen minutes and then walk?

It seems that this method would keep you honest instead of just walking the aid stations.

  • There was a fantastic and loooooong discussion / thread about run walk, and particularly applying the Bobby McGee run walk approach to IM racing in the EN model, very early on in the days of the team.     If you can pull it up through our archives, it's contextual to how we race, and was very informative.   My takeaway was it was faster than straight up running.

I always imagined that if I had a race where I could experiment, I would like to try 8/2.   Those numbers just feel right to me.

  • @Dave Tallo so much good stuff in the archives on this topic. 2011 is 8 years ago! Years ago I came to this sport as a runner. The idea of planned walks was absurd. But now I need to program my brain to do this.
