  • @Beth, don't forget that I have created a swim supplement for the OS plans, and the IM and HIM plans, for that matter, as 20 x weeks of swim workouts. You can use those as resources.

    Kathy,

I'm not sure I understand your question. Please post in the admin forum, as yours is more of an admin/platform vs training question. Thanks!

Rich, Sorry about the confusion with the question.  Will retry in the admin thread.  Thanks.

Where can I find the swim supplements?

  • I need some help with Plan B. I was on track with the 20 wk HIM intermediate plan ending at Eagleman 70.3 on June 13. I finished the first 8 weeks of the plan, but then fell apart. A torn hamstring is going to keep me from land running for 2 -3 weeks. I am getting hammered at work with no end in sight until I finish a trial on May 8, and kid's lacrosse tournaments are completely eating my weekend training time. Training and racing has always been a stress reliever for me, but at this point it is becoming a stress creator and I need to reset. I am going to withdraw from both the Columbia Oly on May 23 and Eagleman on June 13. I am going to start over with week 18 of the 20 wk plan on May 10 to prepare for the Diamondman Half on Sept. 12. For the next 6 weeks, I am going to train as I can, but not stress about it.

Three questions - 1) does this sound like a good plan?; 2) how do I reset the training plan in EN to match what I want to do; and 3) is there a "maintenance" plan that I could use for the next 6 weeks until I restart the HIM plan that would give me some idea of the minimum amount necessary to maintain as much of my bike and swim fitness as possible during this time. I will just have to do what I can with the run part and it probably won't be much.

    Thanks for the guidance.

    Dan
  • Don't know what to schedule now. Finished 20 week Nov outseason group. I'm planning to do some unstuctured running next week since I'm traveling and won't have a bike. I'm not sure what training schedule I should be on starting Aug 5 (Mon). My a race is ironman USA.

    Thanks

  • Hi- I'm new to the Haus and need some help. I joined and started in Beginner HIM for Disney HIM on May 16th. Knee injury has kept me out of running for almost 4 wks (able to bike and swim). I decided to withdraw from Disney and will now make my "A" race for the season Augusta HIM on Sept. 26. Using season planning tool, it gave me 14 wks OS, 1 wk transition, and then 12 wks HIM to lead up to Augusta. I started wk 1 OS plan this week (modified running, though).
    Questions:
    1) How would you recommend I tweak the OS weeks between FTP, VO2, FTP segments, since I won't have 20 wks? I'd really like to train "EN Style" now (I've drunk the cool-aid!)
    2) Any recs for the running work since coming off injury? I've done an easy 4.5 miler this week and knee felt ok, but have not pushed threshold sets. Is an elliptical or stair climber (doing the work of course) a decent sub if I can't run?

    Thanks !

  • R&P... 4 questions... This week (coming) is my Week #17 Intermediate OutSeason. I am following the published outseason plan with the addition of three swims (~1 hour each @ 3,000 yards) ... Need to do the swimming because national championships (Y-Short-Course) are in two weeks.

    This week (start Monday 3/29)

Week #17 -- Published Outseason plus three swims @ ~1 hour each

    Next week (start Monday 4/5)

Bike camp in Helen, Georgia (6 days of bike / 303 hilly miles ... 4 days of run / 29 miles MP (long ~15 mi.) ... 4 days of swim / 5Hrs ~10 miles) ... (1) Should I seriously consider dropping some of this training? (Schedule is shown on http://www.hfpracing.com/events/2010/helen-training-camp)

    Third Week (start Monday 4/12)

Y-National Champ's - Fri, Sat & Sun - Swim 12 events (8 indiv & 4 relay) Need to take Wed (4/15) and Thu (4/16) off completely and do a lite Tue ...  (2) Should I also take off Monday & Tuesday to recover from the bike week?

    Following week (start Monday 4/19)

    (3) Should I go back and pick up OS Week #18? NOTE: I am also scheduled to do the Triple-T (Sprint Fri PM + 2 OLY's on Sat + HIM on Sunday) during the weekend of May 20-22. (two weeks after OS ends if I do the above) That means I will have two weeks after the 20th week of my OutSeason before the Triple-T ... I plan to use the Triple-T as a "C" or even "D" event... My "A" Race is IMKY ... 13 weeks after Triple-T ... (4) Considering the lower volumes associated with the OutSeason, Is all of the above realistic or am I over-doing it. (PS: I'm 64 years old)

  • Question for RnP :

I'm in week 13 of OS( intermediate ) and have a half trail marathon in 4 weeks. My longest run right now is 1:15. Being that it is a very grueling trail half I will likely be out there for 2.30hrs.
I've built some good run speed to date and would like to continue to build.

How long should my long run be and will I be able to have built in intervals ?

    Thank you !!

    Nathalie
  • RnP,

My Nov. outseason just completed and i've since switched to a HIM plan ending on 6/20 in prep for Mooseman 1/2. From there I'll switch over to Ironman training for IMWI. Sound reasonable? Should I be doing more outseason work?

  • RnP,

I just finished HIM Singapore on 3/21 and about to start my 2nd week off/easy. Then, my race schedule looks like that:

    Name                                    Date              Class

Amica TexasMan HIM        5/16/2010     C (can do either Oly or HIM)

The AVIA Austin Triathlon 9/6/2010 B

    Ironman 70.3 Austin          10/17/2010     A

Does this look like something that could work? (Class C HIM during OS) how do you recommend that I'll set my season plan?

(I was thinking to set is to end on 10/17 and use the 2 other races as training days without any special prep)

  • So, I am doing Ironman Cozumel for my A race, and it is on November 28th.  From a season planning perspective, working back from the race, I have:

Race Prep - starting Sept 6th (12 weeks)

General Prep - starting June 7th (12 weeks)

    Transition - May 31 (1 week)

I have an A race on April 18th (NOLA 70.3)...so, my question is, following the race in April, I am thinking I will take a week completely off and then do a little something that following Saturday or Sunday - very unstructured.  Then, I have basically the entire month of May to do SOMETHING - what should I do?  I am guessing spend a lot of time on out season-like training - bike/run only?  Or, should I just add a couple weeks of 'basic' month and then roll into the transition?

    Thanks guys!

  • @Daniel, recommend you load up the OS plan, to start this week. Use that as low volume solution for the next six weeks but you'll need to very smart with you run and the hamstring. It's not really a "maintenance" solution, but it is low volume and you can ask us here in the forum for advice on how to modify it to fit your running situation.

  • @Lou, load up the 20wk IM plan to end on IMUSA. That's your training schedule. Sorry, I don't understand your Aug 5 question given that IMUSA is your goal race.

  • @Matt, yes, that sounds like a good plan.

  • @Carl, so it looks like Y-Nationals is a master swim meet?

That training week is a serious, serious training week. I would plan to do all of it but don't be afraid to back off if you need to. Also, you may need to prioritize the camp vs you swimming goals in real time. IOW, I'm shelling myself here, which is good for tri goals, but not good for swim goals. Depending your priorities you may decide to continue shelling or back off. Regardless, I'd plan to take Monday, Tues, maybe Wed completely off.

To answer your other questions about the rest of your schedule, please use the Season Planning Tools here to lay out your season.

  • @Tomer, that plan looks good. You may/may not need two transition weeks before starting the 12 HIM plan. Plan for two but you may only need one.

  • Rich,

Yes... Y-Nationals is a major masters swim meet... shelling? Is that the same as hammering or really wbusting your but?

Also, is the spread sheet something we construct from scratch or is it a program that is supposed to take our season and schedule it for us?

    Carl

  •  Hi guys, I'm slowly getting back from the running injury and I'm at a decision point where I could use your help.

I’m in Week 9 of the OS (for bike only) and thus start a block of VO2 stuff this week.

I’m not doing any of the OS run workouts.  I’m instead doing my own “return to running” thing.  I’m currently up to 2x20’(1’) as my “long run”.  If things continue to progress, I should be up to one full hour of running in about 3 weeks (on or about 4/18).

I have TOC scheduled for May, and Eagleman HIM on 6/13, and of course IMWI.  My goals for Eagleman are simply to not get injured, enjoy the day with friends, then recover well and start the training for IMWI with a healthy (and hopefully fully fit) engine.

My initial thoughts were to just stick with the OS through the VO2 block over the next 4 weeks, and then hop into the HIM plans.  But I really think I need to get back in the pool starting NLT April 4 so I get a good 8-10 weeks of swimming (keep in mind TOC is gonna kill a good 2 weeks of swim/run training in May).

Sooo- should I skip the VO2 block and switch from the OS to the HIM plans now?  Or should I continue with the OS, do the VO2 Block, and just add a swim hack 2-3 days a week?

  • okay I might have gotten here by mistake> I am in Jan OS and need the IM WI plan to start sometime. would you recommend the 12 or 20 week program? and I think I just boogered my request for 20 week INtermed plan as I am not sure when it would actually start! so I put in something and then I pressed something else and got here! smile. m
  • RnP,

I was going along in the Jan OS advanced group fine until 4 weeks ago when I injured my leg with a partial gastroc tear during a half marathon. I wasn't ready for the distance in cold without a warm up. I have run now once for 3 miles without issue and only biked a couple of times. I need a major adjustment to my schedule. I was planning Buffalo Springs as my A race ( June 27 ) but now it can be a B or lower race or skip. A race is now Austin 70.3 ( Oct 17 ) and was hoping to do Branson 70.3 in Sept.. Should I drop back to week 4 of the OS and into HIM training 4 weeks before Buffalo Springs and then Gen Prep until 12 weeks from Austin or what? Not really sure where to add in swimming in this respect either with swimming not in the OS. Help, not sure where to go. Thanks. jeff
  • Hey RnP,

I am at home through the summer - no work. I'm going to be taking some classes at some point and taking care of Clare and the homefront. I'll have a lot of free time, especially until Clare gets out of school at the end of May. My program is to have fun with my fitness and to cycle a lot. The only things on my schedule are a sprint in June and an Oly aquabike in August so far. I also want to look at the IMWI Tri Rally as an Event for me. I may do another big bike weekend in early May with some local roadies. I've got my running legs back after coming off an injury I got in the Fall. So, I want to build a basic week with a cycle focus. I want to continue to run and swim. I've been building up to the following but want to get your take on it. Here's what I have in mind at least through the end of May. I'm finding that I need to move my runs to a few hours after some of the rides. These have been 15-30 minutes. I've been running well like this. Through most of February and early March I was following the advanced OS bike workouts while running 6 days a week. Mostly short easier runs to build back from my injury. Thoughts and suggestions? FYI: I'm pretty good at listening to my body and taking needed recovery.

    mon - ride 2-2.5 hours ABP - easy run/strides

tues - ride 2-2.5 hours w/ ftp - moderate run

wed - run (60-90 minutes EP)

thurs - ride 3-5 hours - no run

fri - ride 2-2.5 ABP - moderate run

    sat - rest

    sun - TP run/mile repeats

    swim 2x week - 90 minutes masters

    Core/PT 2x week

  • Fellas,

Getting started on a General Prep 1 month to get some volume under my belt for a HM I'm doing 1st weekend in May and also Need the bike volume for the ToC.  Just was making sure that is the right path to follow leading into ToC and IM training block for LP or should I add anything to this.

On another note, after the ToC I would really like to do a HIM two weeks after but this is also only 7 weeks prior to IMLP.  Stupid, Dumb, or OK??

  • RnP,

I will be starting HIM training Monday April 5th for 10 weeks, which will bring me to June 12 race day. Since your HIM plans are 12 weeks and I will only need 10 weeks, should I request the plan to begin on week 3 or should I start on week 1 of plan and skip two weeks near the end?

    Thanks

  • RnP -- I think you should peek over in the EN Cowgirl forum.  Lots of discussion, maybe even a little angst, about which plan and at what level to do in preparing for IM Moo.

    Thanks.

    Ditto what Pam said.

  • Hi Rich- Repost of my question b/c I think you missed me. Apologies if not the case

Hi- I'm new to the Haus and need some help. I joined and started in Beginner HIM for Disney HIM on May 16th. Knee injury has kept me out of running for almost 4 wks (able to bike and swim). • Hey Guys,

My A race has changed from Florida 70.3 to Augusta 70.3 which is about 25 weeks out.  What would be the best use of my time as far when I should jump into the HIM training plan?  Should I do some out season?  Should I do a full 20 week HIM plan?  Between now and Augusta I have 4 sprints scheduled and that is all.  I would like to continue to increase my speed for the sprints, I have a little pay back on a couple of buddies from last season!  Thanks for the help!

Please disregard the above about how to plan the rest of the season.  I am going to go back and do the last 13 weeks of the OS and then a 12 week HIM race prep.  I made the date changes under "My Training Plan Central" but now I have no plan.  How do I configure it so I get the OS plan so I can get started?

    thanks!

  • ;Carl, shelled = fookin' tired from much, much training .

The Season Planning Tool Kit is a ton of stuff: spreadsheet, docs to and video to explain it to you, etc. We spent a lot of time putting together the resource for you and you using will help you learn a ton about how we like to see you organize your season.

  • @Pam, two of us, many of you, you(they) know where to find us if they want help. We created the Macro and Micro Threads so that people could post specific questions and get specific answers from the coaches very quickly. We just can't chase down Mary's question on page 11 of a random post, so we've put links to these two posts in about 300 different places on the website .

Again, tell the peeps to come to us in this thread. Happy to help!
