  • P,

I think I understand.  You mean the week of Flying Pirate us the 1/2 marathon as my long run that week and swim the day after?  I had planned to do the same this week with the Shamrock 1/2 mary.

  • P&R,

I think I got it now. So now in week 21 I am in transition. Then I change my plan to 4 weeks general Prep. Then I change again to 12 weeks IM Beginner. That should take me right up to the race. I still have not figured out how to sown load it all so it looks nice and pretty, and customized, but I think I have the idea of what I should be doing.

Let me know if this is correct. Thanks, Barbara

  • RnP,

I find myself in a unique position of having a vacation in the spring . I will be staying with my parents in the Catskills and in close vicinity to 2 out of 3 of my races this year.  I am currently on Week 4 of 12 of the IM Beginner Plan. I would like to make Week 6 a BBW, so only 6 weeks before my race on 5/16. Before I commit to this I  would like your thoughts on if this is wise, and how best to rearrnage the week before & after.

    My thoughts are the following:

I am a noobie but feel that I need to add something extra to help increase my bike performance. My plan is to practice riding @ 80-85% for all of the rides except the RR. This should allow me to finish each ride in 3-4 hours. I am not sure about the Day Off in the middle, but am just trying to make sure I don't totally crash and burn.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks, Pete

    That's exactly right! Good luck!

    Pete -

I like the BBW, and the 6 weeks out is okay, but sitting on .85 for all of them = bad idea. Here's the guidance from the wiki, please read it. I wouldn't worry about the intensity, the BBW is more about the miles and cool stuff. I would go:

    • Tues = 40 + Run
    • Wed = 60-75 bike only
    • Thurs = 40 + Run
    • Friday = off or swim only
    • Sat = RR
    • Sun + Mon = OFF

    Pics please!!!

  • RnP,

I kinda wanted to do well at White Lake because I had to pay extra $$(charity slot) to get in.  The wiki page personalized plan indicated that I can use a Race Rehearsal week for a big bike week, so what do you think about my RR#1? I thought about this week in Asheville or Charlottesville for hills but the weather forecast is kind of cold and rainy.

  • R n P;
My first A race is 8 wks away, Ironman 70.3 Orlando. I am on OS week 17. Should I come out of OS?
Other A race is Ironman Florida, Nov 6th. I have not sched any other races in between but thinking of some local sprint or Olympic distances.
    Thanks
    Dennis
  • R n P;
Well I think I messed up. I am a bit stressed now that I realized I only have 8 wks before Ironman 70.3 and I am still in OS training.
To be realistic I am thinking of turning this into a B race instead. Thoughts? No general prep phase! Oh boy. I will be happy if I can finish this race and not walk as I have needed to do with the other half's that I have done in the past.

After reading about transitioning, I think it will be a good idea to do 1 wk of transition as outlined in your posting.

    Thanks for your feedback.

  • Hi RnP,

When I joined EN (Feb 2010), I was dropped into week 6/20 of a beginner HIM plan.  I moved myself into week 11/20 intermediate OS plan ending on 23 May.  Two week transition (or taper) leading to "A" race, IM 70.3 MooseMan on 6 June.  Then, jump into 12 week IM plan to prep for IM  Canada on 29 August.  Is this sound?

    Thanks,

    Alessandro

p.s. - How can I cut and paste into a post ... i.e. cut from season planning spreadsheet and paste into a post?

  • Hi R n P:
I'm just starting week 10 of OS. I have two important things coming up:

Run race April 16 (week 13 of OS)
Rev 3 Half- June 6, which is also the week that my OS ends.

    Questions:

    1) When should I switch from OS to a HIM plan for the Rev 3?
    2) What sort of taper should I do for my road race? I'm assuming that I will just do lighter workouts that week and not run as much.

My A race is IM WI and I will just switch to the IM plan after Rev 3.

    Thanks,

    Joanna

  • Just finished November OS - will take 2 week transition (maybe only 1 if I feel recovered ... had a tough final week), then I will have 16 weeks left until IMUSA - do I go to general prep for 4 weeks and then 12 week IM prep or into 20 week IM prep and start 4 weeks into it? I went into change plan section and wasn't sure where to go after transition (in Advanced plan if that matters)

    Thanks,

    Joe

  • Hi Brittany,

From your Training Plan Dashboard, click on the Training Plan FAQ link. From here you can download the Season Planning Toolkit stuff to plan out your season. Once done, go back to your Training Plan Dashboard, click on the Move/Change Your Training Plan link, and you can load up your plan yourself.

Dennis, yes, move over to the HIM plan. You can make the change yourself from the

    Move/Change Your Training Plan

    link

  • @Allessandro, yes, that sounds good. Best way is to take a screen shot of the spreadsheet, upload that to a free picture server TinyPic (google that to be sure, I use another) and then insert that picture into your post using the little "insert/edit image" icon in the tool bar above, look like a picture of a mountain.

  • @ Joanna, please use the Season Planning Toolkit to get a better feel for your season:

    Season Planning Tookit

Download the PDF instructions and overview here, as well as the intro video. When you are ready to begin, then you can click on the following links to download the Spreadsheet Toolkit and instructional screencast.

I recommend you move from the OS to the HIM plan after your running race above.

Please see this wiki post about inserting running races into your OS plan.

  • Hello Coaches,

I just finished the outseason. Assessment? First eight weeks? Rockin'. Second eight weeks? Almost non-existent because of skiing/life stupidity.  Last four weeks. Not bad.

I'm set now for two weeks of basic, where I'm thinking there will be lots of running. And then launching into the Intermediate 1/2 ironman plan for the High Cliff 1/2 (June 19) and then transitioning into my Ironman plan for IMWI.

    1) Since I'm chalking this Outseason up to being my Jan Ullrich year of not a lot of prep, but still plan on showing up to IMWI a total athletic machine, should I hack in some of the OS week 9-12 speed work somewhere?

2)I've done the Intermediate OS and 1/2 ironman plans while in the haus. Would it be smart to train on the beginner Ironman plan?

    Thanks!

  • Beth, I don't want to sound like a broken record but it really, really, really helps us and you when you use the Season Planning Tools to lay out your season, with additional notes (insert this here, do this until that date, then do something else, etc). By going through the exercise, and posting a screen shot of it here, you've done your homework and have something to referrence. On our end the visual representation of our season makes it very easy for us to give you quality feedback.

Post above is as much for everyone as it is you

  • Homework: Today is first week of basic week.

Homework done: This week is first week of basic week. I definitely am not coming out the OS a rock star with any sort of gains.

  • Coach RnP,

First day of OS for two weeks then April 5th begin HIM training.  I requested a change of plans today to get a glimpse of the HIM plans.  Since I am not starting until April 5th, I clicked on the season ended, put me on hold tab because I don't want week one to start and  until I'm ready on April 5th.  Just wondering if that is the correct way to go about it?  OR should I wait to request the new plan when I am actually ready to begin?  Or maybe is just doesn't matter?  Could you make this clear for me...thankyou

  •  I started another thread specific to my A-race here, but seems like this is the best place to post for feedback.

Trying to figure out what to do for the purple time. Probably not a big deal over the long term but thought I'd weigh my options.

    Season Planner:

After the 20 Week Nov OS

I'm leaning toward a 2 Weeks of Transition. (I ran a mary in January and figure the rest would do more good than harm.)

Here's where I'm still a little torn. The options for the purple seem to be:

    1. Repeat OS 17-20 or 16-20 with 1 week transition.
    2. Do 4 weeks of GP1 + 12 week RP.
    3. Do 4 weeks of GP2 + 12 week RP which is roughly the same as jumping into the 20 week at week 5. (Assuming 20RP = GP1+GP2+RP12.)

What are the advantages to doing these?

With only one block to spare, what are the advantages to doing GP1 vs GP2? I'm either starting four weeks in or skipping four weeks in the middle.

I'm leaning toward just doing GP2 since I have a half at the end of my first week RP.  No real reason for this other than I like to race. So, I'm going to race it based on my current fitness possibly even doing the scheduled training intervals from the plan.

Ok, here's my screenshot of my season.  Based on this, I should switch to what week of the half ironman plan after my road race?  Should I take a transition week after my half? Or continue with the race prep before I do the 12 week for IM Moo?

    Thanks,

    Joanna

  • Hi guys,

Just finished up my OS and am into the finishing touches of Boston Marathon training then Mooseman. I switches to a HIM plan ending on 06/20. Just 2 weeks are showing in my plan. Are these the transition weeks?

    Thanks.

  • @Beth:

    • I think you should do the Intermediate OS plan through High Cliff. Just build in a regular 2.5-3hr long ride and 1:30-1:45 long run. I think you'll likely only need one race sim.
    • Stick with Intermediate. You'll be fine.
  • Kathy,

I'm not sure I understand your question. Please post in the admin forum, as yours is more of an admin/platform vs training question. Thanks!

  • @Greg, do GP2 in that block. After exiting the OS you'll have more than enough fitness for it.

  • @Joanna, I think you should

    • load up the 12wk HIM plan to end on your Half. Let that be your primary tool and work the running race and the sprint into that plan.
    • Then load up the 12wk IM plan to end on IMWI. If there is a gap between the HIM and the start of this two week block, just see where your head is at. If you're fried and need a break, then do 1-2 transition weeks. If you're good, you could insert a few weeks of General Prep 2 as a guide. But, again, we are talking about what to do for a couple weeks which are pretty far away. Let's get you there first, see where you're head is at at that time and talk about it.

Rich -- What about swimming? How do I hack that in to a slightly super-sized OS and not show up to High Cliff totally fried? I am far from being a good enough swimmer to show up for High Cliff and swim it cold.
