I will miss you all.... but I'll be back

I normally only talk about this stuff with family and close friends but You all here have kinda felt like a second family the last couple of years.  I do know many of you in person and others I don't, but feel like I do through the forums etc... So since I feel this way and seeing how I usually post something each week I felt a little obligated to let you all know what's up.

As many of you know from previous posts ( and new ones who don't) I have battled with cancer in the past.  About 11 years ago to be exact.  Had a doctor visit this last week as I've felt a little out of the ordinary lately.  Since IMLP I've really struggled to get my injuries to heal up, I've had no motivation, and no energy at all, which is very unTrent like.  So went to the doc to make sure everything seemed ok since it's been almost 2 years since my 10 year checkup.  We'll not too good of news was delivered as it seems the cancer has came back and will undergo treatments immediatly.  This will set back the training a little but willl not mean I'll give up at all.  After the treatments I will get back into the swing of things and hey maybe with the drugs I'll be able to be on post treatments I may have the best OS of all. (Ha Ha).

I was planning on being at IMMoo this coming weekend to see alll the EN Chicas crush the course, and of course to see Coach Rich in the pink speedo.  I will miss this dearly.  But will for sure follow all of you the best I can online and through the forums.  Take a little piece of me out there on the course and be willing to suffer through the tough times as I will for u all too.

Sorry too for the fellas I was looking forward to crushing myself with on the course in some riding with Mancona, Rich, Matt S., and all others planning to ride for beers.  Another day will come that i'll get to be there with you again.

Again don't take this as a pity party for me at all.  I WILL GET THROUGH this but just wanted all my friends to know what's up and why I may not post any crazy workouts.

One note that does amaze me is that knowing now I had cancer probably most of the year yet still had a 5k pr and Half Marathon post OS,  3 crazy and amazing crashes, and still trained for an IM and completed in in 10:36:xx.  Shows what the body can do even under distress.

See you all in a few and be ready for a fury... and good luck to all IMers.

  •  I'm very sorry for your bad news.  But, as an ENer, sounds like you've crushed it once, do it again!!!  Good luck to you, all the best man!!!

  • This is always a journey that is better taken with friends. Please keep in touch and let us know what we can do.
  • Trent - hang tough, be positive, and I'll be sending you positive vibes and best wishes. Beat this thing to a pulp!
  • Trent, lots of good energy, prayers and vibes coming your way. Sorry to hear your news! As you stated, it is amazing what the body can do...You will get through this! Hugs to you!
  • Trent, we'll be sending positive vibes your way. Thanks for letting us know. But this place will be poorer for the time that you'll be away.

Looking forward to having you back and tearing up the courses again soon.

  •  Sorry to hear your news.  Fight hard.  No reason to be a stranger.  Be well.

  •  Trent- Sorry to hear your news. with your iron focus and everything you got through, that cancer  will be obliterated once and for all.

As others have said, don't be a stranger, let us know if there is anything we can do!

I'll be sure to get some video of the pink speedo

  • Trent, seriously, you on EPO is a frightening thought. Our prayers will be with you through treatment, and I look forward to training with you on the other side.

    Mike
  • I'll hold you in my prayers.
  • I'll race a little harder just for you, Trent.

  • Looking forward to seeing you back soon.
  • That's really tough news. We'll miss your focus, determination, and bizarre injuries. Don't be a stranger. I'll have Mette (my 6 year old) put you on her prayer list. She's very persistent...once you get on the prayer list, you almost never come off unless someone specifically gives you permission. Mercifully we just took Keith Patch off the list, but Tom Glynn is still on (can we take you off yet Tom?), so another ENer is due. Seriously, we'll keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. Hang tough and let us know if we can help!
  • Well, crap! That completely SUCKS!
I have complete confidence and faith that you shall overcome it again.
Many, many prayers and hugs to you, my friend!
  • Dude, u r the man. Remember when we almost crashed my car at the IMWI camp last year? Good times. Dude, your a strong guy with a stronger heart. Hang in there. See you SOON!!
  • Definitely a sobering reminder to enjoy every day you are out there training or racing and take nothing for granted. Truly wishing you the best and hope you crush it again!

  • Trent with all the force on this forum behind you, you can't lose. Thanks for reaching out.
  • Trent ... it was great meeting you at IMKY '09 ... Plan on seeing you back out there soon ... after you knock that bad stuff for a loop ...
  • Um, uh, crap! I am never good with this stuff. Go slay that fooking thing and get back here quick! Good mojo coming your way and I will be channeling you next weekend at my HIM. I may have to push .87 IF now in your honor. image

    Take care and God's speed.
  • Trent,

Sorry to hear your bad news.  GIven that you are EN athlete and actively drive your own training -EN style, you might like this book - Getting well again .  It basically applies mental visualisations to your treatment routine and has you actively participating in your own treatment.  It doesn't remove the need for traditional medicine buts adds another tool to your arsenal.

    Hope all goes well.

  • Trent it was a pleasure meeting you at IMMOO last year as we spectated the race and I loved watching you race LP this year. You have been such an inspiration to all of us this past year, in your encouragement and in your actions.  You HAVE proven the bodies ability to take so very much ( more than we can imagine).    I will take this thought into IMMOO this weekend.

I can tell from your post that you look at  this as just another challenge.  Your Ironwill, determination and ability to fight through anything will serve you well.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

  • Crush it Trent. Hope you're back soon.
  • Trent - I know you"ll beat it again and setting PR's in no time - get well soon

  • Trent: That is tough news, but it sounds like you already have that positive attitude to get through it. You are so right on how the people in the Haus have become like family even if we haven't meet them. Hang tough, keep us posted and let us know if there is anything we can do to help!

    Pete
  • I was really looking forward to seeing you and TRYING to ride with you at IMOO. That is some bad news but knowing your strength and determination, you will beat this thing again.

  • Crush it, pal. Just crush it.
I'm looking forward to riding and crashing with you again.
    We are with you.
    Chris
  • You will be one of my inspirations next weekend!  Health is such a precious gift we have...hang in there, beat this cancer and c u back in the haus soon

  • Wishing you strength & a return to health quickly. Thank you for trusting us all and sharing !

  • Trent-
Always remember, the power of EN goes with you and you will be in minds & hearts as you and your family battle.
  • Trent,

That is rough. I really enjoyed watching you crush it in LP. Like everyone else has said, I am sure this will just be a minor speed bump.
