Beer of the Month Club

So Coach Dick has been talking about trying to get a big group together to approach a beer of the month club and get a nice discount.  He claims he has no time .  Something to do with coaching a 550+ triathlon team.  But I think he's just lazy.  So I raised my hand and told him I would try to help make his dream come through.

So what say you EN.  Who is in?  Who wants to make the dream come true for Coach Dick?  So if you may be interested please leave a post and throw in your favorite beer.

I guess I will start.  Favorite beer right now is Southern Tier Imperial Pumking Ale.  If only my wife would stop drinking them !  But that is seasonal.  Usually I am big IPA guy.

Speaking of IPA.  Any of you West Coast folks able to get your hands on Russian River Pliny the Elder?  Any want to ship some out to me?  Will pay, swap, whatever....

  • Steven's Point Oktoberfest

  • I am a cheap beer drinker but might be talked into this. Let me know

  • I might be persuaded on this. I'm a fan of Pale Ales, including IPAs. I love Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale.

My go to standby beer is Fat Tire Amber Ale. Also really like Single Track Copper Ale.

I guess I like ales. image
  • I've heard legends of a liquor store about 1mi away with a great beer selection. I wandered in there this weekend and, indeed, GREAT selection. Crazy it's so close to me and I never knew about it.

I'll go over there tonight and see if they have Pliny the Elder.

  • Sounds like a great idea! My favorite all time was Pete's Wicked Ale before it got bought up and went all corporate. Just doesn't taste as good as it did the first time at the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe. :-)
Right now my favorite is Homegrown Hairy IPA from a local brew pub/cafe (Elk Creek Cafe + Aleworks in Millheim, PA). Only available in growlers but that could be an option, no?
Mass market favorites at the moment are Stella Artois and Kostritzer Schwarzbier (an old favorite).
  • Where's socie? I don't drink beer unless Strauss is around....so sign him up x2
  • I think that would be great, except I've been putting down way too many of them on a daily basis.......GOD I NEED THE NOV OS TO START SOON!!!! This is a bad time of year too with the pumpkin ales out. I love a black and tan with a pumpkin ale on the bottom!!!! I've been seasonal 12 packing it of late with Sam Adams, Long Trail, & Saranac. I'm not an IPA guy, but Long Trail's unfiltered IPA is awesome.
  • I am most definitely in. For my favorite beer I would have to say it is a Ettaler Kloster Dunkel. If I have to stay state-side then I would go with Lost Coast 8-Ball Stout. I can also kick back a few Moylan's Kilt Lifters from time to time.

  • I could be talked into this!!
My favorite has been Delirium Nocturum (?sp) I am a fan of Belgian Ales but will drink most anything. Recently discovered that the Bud 55 is drinkable......
  • I"m a Sierra Nevada fan, considering my hometown is 10 miles away from it. Unfortunately for my Sierra Nevada tastes, I live close to 2000 miles away in Dallas - which is a crappy beer market if you ask me.

My favorite is the "Old Chico" (used to be called Crystal Wheat), which you can ONLY find in the small geographic area around Chico.

I'm definitely up for a beer of the month club, if anyone can find one!!!

Maybe Rich, in his cycling tours business, can do a Portland-ish brewery tour?!?
  • Yes.

Lately, Half Acre Brewery Daisy Cutter, but the Goose Island Matilde is also delicious.

  • Sammy Smith's Nut Brown Ale,Ahhh tastes like summer under the stars and with a long drum solo.
  • I'm in. Big fan of Pale Ales & IPAs.

Current favorite is a special production thing Bells Brewery does called Hopslam - Only available 6 weeks out of the year.

Ding! Ding! SS rawks. Like the Outmeal Stout too.

  •  Hmmm... with all this talk about Beer, I've just realized it's now Beer-thirty.  Time to go home!!  Wooooooohoooooo!

  • Count me in Mate....old time favorite is Cooper Pale Ale from Austrailia - fermented in the bottle - have to spin the bottle prior to opening to mix it up.....Too many drunken adventures on drinking this one....!!
  •  No Genny Cream Ale fans out there????

  • Shipyard Pumpkinhead is the current must have in my house. image

  • How did I miss this post? Beer is my favorite thing second only to more beer. Favorite is Moose Drool by Big Sky Brewing company. I'm in the process of brewing a custom beer for EN called Sherp-Ale.

The brewery that makes Genny Cream is here in Rochester. While Genny is pretty bad stuff, the brewery makes a nice line of microbrews that they bottle under the name "Dundee." They make a tasty Honey Brown Lager and currently have their seasonal Marzen Octoberfest brew out.

Joke: How is Genny Cream Ale like sex in a canoe? Both are f'ing close to water.

  •  @Greg: Moose Drool is great.  My parents spend half the year in Montana every year and introduced me to Moose Drool a couple of years ago.  Love that stuff!

  • Our current fave is Smuttynose Brown Dog Ale. Smuttynose Brewing Co is out of NH. We do blind taste tests in the kitchen for fun, and I always pick that one as the best. image

A little trivia--Smuttynose is an island off the coast of NH that make up the Isles of Shoals. The name appears on nautical charts going back as far as the 1600s. Whaling families lived there back in the day. It's known for a double axe murder of two Norwegian women in the dead of night. The Weight of Water is a very good novel set on the island, which is how I know about it. image

  • Ok I'm in, I basically train so I can eat ribs and drink beer without feeling guilty....

Love the moose drool....  UBU is great, can never get enough guiness, stopped for lunch coming home from placid and walked out with a case of Naked beer ale for a brewery in Lake georg NY that went real fast.....  Woodstock inn in NH has a great pigs ear brown, maple porter, and red rack ale.....

  • count me in!  My favorite is Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar...  Just awesome!  http://www.rogue.com/beers/hazelnut-brown.php

  • Want you all to know, I finally had Moose Drool - and LOVED it!
