Beer of the Month Club

  • I'm all in! Favorite seasonal is either Odell's Woodcut http://odellbrewing.com/beers/woodcut or Left Hand Fade to Black http://www.lefthandbrewing.com/beers. Favorite everyday drink is Avery's White Rascal http://www.averybrewing.com/.
  • Seems to me like the EN community, while liking beer, is not all that interested in a beer of the month club.
  • I'm totally in for Beer of the Month! Did we ever really find one that interested the masses?
  • I am in for beer of the month

  • Generally I'm a big local-first beer drinker. I prefer not to even buy beer from anywhere beyond a 100 mile radius and luckily for me living where I do I bet I can get to about 60 breweries. (Beer will save Michigan's economy)

That said I currently have Lagunitas Brown Shugga in the fridge and it's a bottle of win.

While I like beer I'm not a fan of beer of the months clubs. There are all pretty average beers for the money. Honestly I got more out this thread just by people posting what they like. I'm going to go hunt each of those down and try them.

Dan what are you drinking from the area?  Jolly Pumpkin, 3 Floyds, Bells, Founders, Great Lakes

I wish  I could just drink local but to be honest there just aren't that many breweries in NJ because of stupid beer laws.  I am not a huge fan of the beer clubs either but told Rich I would look into it for him.  Would love to do beer swaps myself.  Though there are some decent clubs I have found.  Not cheap but you can get some good stuff.

  • Founders is less than 4 miles from the house...and yeah...i'm a mug club member. Bells, Shorts, Right Brain, and North Peak..all great and close....I think I just gained weight just typing those names.

    Opa!
  • I had Dogfish Head's Bitches Brew last night. While listening to Miles Davis. This is truly one of the biggest, most delicious beers I've ever had. Nine layers of complex and seriously giant, yet mellow. If you can find it, drink it.

  • Maybe instead of a beer of the month club, we can just do a What are you drinking? beer thread, where people can post what they've drank, style, and why they liked it?
  • I also don't do beer of the month clubs, but I'm lucky enough to live in Chicago where they do a ton of tastings from breweries all over the country pretty frequently, so I try to hit those up as much as possible image
  • Jennifer I hear you about the clubs. I find it very hard to find one that would suit me. I like the idea of a what I am drinking now thread similar to the book thread. Another idea I have kicked around is a beer swap club. We have a national, and international team and could really introduce others to beers from around country, or world, that they cannot get. This way we can still get a tasty selection of beers delivered to us monthly, without the markup the beer clubs throw in there. Thoughts?
  • Definitely need to take advantage of the globalness of EN! We could also do drink-alongs, where we can all try and review a certain beer recommended. Anything to have a good excuse to drink beer is good with me image
  • Yes I agree. I will start a thread in a bit after my workout. So what are your favorites in Chicago?
  • Excellent thread! I just wish I could join you but I can’t. It has been 19 years since I had a real beer or any alcohol.

Long story there, let’s just say I had a thing going with Bud.... He would put me to sleep every day, night, or morning..... And remind me when I woke that he was my significant other and I belonged to him, and only him. He was my master and I had to submit or else ......

Seriously though, I don’t miss the alcohol or the hangovers or the $$ I don’t spend. The one thing I do miss is the simple pleasure of having a beer. Like on a hot afternoon or after a hard run/hike/bike what ever. Somehow O’Doul’s just doesn’t cut it.

Enjoy all the wonderful beers out there but be careful, it can become a miserable friend for some – like me.
