Well, technically I should be firmly in Wave 1. Problem is that I'm running on a charity bib, and I'm certain that they stick the charity runners near the back .... way near the back. If that's the case, it doesn't really bode well for my requalifying prospects. Guess I'll have to get ahold of the BAA this week to clarify the situation.
@B I'm in wave one. I ran 3:07 last year at Boston. That was my 2nd stand alone Mary and I tried to break 3:00 but was a bit overtrained and blew my nutritition too, This year I'm just running for fun since my wife is going to run it. I'm just hoping Carrie and her crew don't pass me after being in 2nd wave!
JB- AS IF!!! Maybe Mr Chavez will pass you but the odds of me coming up from behind and giving you a goose are SLIM!! Ha!
My legs are tight and tender from Sundays 20 miler in the rain with HILLS. We ran a whopper downhill at 16 miles that I am sure caused most of my soreness. I felt fine Sunday but by Monday evening the calves were sore. Today was track and the interval set we did( from BAA advanced marathon plan) was 1 mile/ 2 miles/ 1 mile @ or below 10K pace with 400 and 800 recoveries. I was so tight in warm up. It took 2 miles to run kinda normal. Then drills helped open up the legs a bit more. I managed to finish the set but it was HARD and I wanted to quit. Instead of quitting I workd on my mental 6 pack building and focused on staying relaxed and staying positive in my head!!
Ended up with : 6:31, 13:06, and 6:16!!!! The 2 miler was tough. I got winded and had to back off the pace but was still at or under 10K pace. Then in the last mile I would not give up. I fought to the end and worked to stay on my friends heels. SO FREAKING WINDED!! Today was for sure my hardest workout to get through. Now time to recover.
I have a 5K this weekend. Not sure I have a fast 5K in these legs. I'll just do my best and leave it at that.
60 min run in marathon hack went well today. My leg was tight and from yesterdays bike, so i stretched before getting on the TM. Warmed nicely and then did 2 x 1.5 mile and 1 x 1 mile at my Z4 pace. Leg acted up in the last 2 min of first interval, so I stretched it out during the 5 min active rest and then it never bothered me again. Feeling stiff and tired today.
Well JB, I guess I will see you at brunch on the Sunday. Maybe I will see your wife during the race.
Carrie - I have said it before and will say it again - you are an animal. I hope you recover well and I am sure that you will knock that 5km this weekend out of the park.
Question - how come you Americans have 5km races, but everything else is in miles???? Strange don't you think?
Question - how come you Americans have 5km races, but everything else is in miles???? Strange don't you think?
@Brenda - You'll be pleased to know that our most popular race distances are all in km (5k, 10k, 15k). What's even more entertaining is that the other popular "American" distances - such as the half and full marathon - aren't even round numbers when taken in miles (13.1, 26.2). Sorry that your leg has been giving you grief. I was later to this show than most, so I was never aware of the severity. The good thing is that you're being very proactive rather than ignoring it. All of my worst injuries (except for those related to crashes) have been the result of ignorance. Roll, stretch, run, repeat!
Whatever wagon I fell off going into Sunday's long run has since made its way down the road. Rather than taking yesterday off, my legs felt surprisingly good, so I hopped on the trainer and went for the 4 x 2.5s, hitting them all with relative comfort at 1.21/1.20/1.22/1.21. Finished off with a comfortable and steady 30' at 87%. I'm still weighing in each morning at or below race weight, but my appetite is returning so I'll just handle it day-to-day. Maybe my new "normal" will be 137 versus 139. Woohoo - free W/kg bump.
@B Way to gut out your run. I did my hack run of 8 mi in 60 min w/ 2 x 1.5 mi @ 5K pace. I ran over to local school track which was torn up so ended up running in park on deep sand and rolling hills w/ my dogs. Much harder to run pace on that terrain but a good strength builder. Goal pace 6:15 and managed 6:34/6:25 pace but sand adds at least 15 sec/mi. HR and RPE were definitely every bit of 5K pace. AT least the weims loved the run even if I barely survived.
And also wanted to let B know, thanks to getting into running, I now am able to easily convert miles to KM and back! Yeah for running Americans.
I hope you guys are interested in the Meet Up! Can I make this thread into a group?? So we have an official space to put our pictures, schedule events, etc??? Let me know or just make your own if you think it's a good idea!
Heck yeah coach P. I was wondering why this wasn't already a group?
What are the details on the Sunday meet up? I was late to the forum and didn't see the info about that. I'm flying in Saturday and staying at John Jeffries House B&B which is right off the red line I think. Wife and I are there and also a friend who is a former EN member on hiatus after he did Kona last year. Didn't know if they were invited to an EN gathering.
Looking forward to meeting everyone in person! In less than 6 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!
I am Ok if it becomes a group as long as I can get there from my i-phone. The site is really hard to navigate from the phone now with so many places to go. I also know friends of mine are following my progress in this forum because it is open to everyone. I guess they will have to join our group. So Many freaking groups. It is getting crazy in here.To check in on your friends you have to join the groups they are in. Oh my goodness.
I posted the details about the brunch the other day in this forum. Just scroll up. Coach P had posted it in another forum, so you guys did not miss the details I posted it in this forum. I am soooo looking forward to meeting everyone.
We are arriving in Medford on the 14th and not leaving until the 20th, so we will be able to see you guys, but also our other American friends who live in the area. Suhwheat. I am more excited about that than the race.
@ Justin - my issues with my leg are being taken care of by seeing a physio on a reg basis. I have a pinched nerve in L4/5. If I keep my back open all is good, so I know what to do if it gets stiff, so not that serious.
@ JB - good to hear that your math skills are in check. I have been running for over 15 years, but always worked in kms, so converting to miles is very new for me so it will take me a little longer to get those skills.
@ Jane, sent you a PM and also posted it on the group dashboard.
Had a great ride tonight, but NO PROOF! Dang powertap dingamadoe did not record it. Posted a question in the power and pace forum and hopefully I have solved the problem. Oh well, at least the thing let me see my numbers, so I know that I hit them, and I hit them hard!!!!!
Looking forward to a 1500 meter swim tomorrow, 80 min run, 40 min of weights and a little bit of work. How is everyone else doing?
Oops sorry I missed the brunch thing. I probably wont make it as I work 6am-2pm on Sundays and then usually then again 10pm-6am Sunday night into monday morning. Yep only 8 hours between shifts. I will be taking the mid shift off for Boston of course. I actually work friday nights and saturday days as well so I use alot of leave for races. And yes I usually do my long runs on Sunday afternoons between shifts. Monday is one hell of a rest day for me.
Ok party people... Let's get our chatter going again. I have been training and I know you have too. We started the Boston Marathon group. Let's use it. I'll create a training thread in our discussions. For our teammates and friends who are following us here as we build to the race, please join our group. Post and offer us feedback and encouragement. We are 5 weeks and 2 days away from the big event. We are in the final push of2-3 weeks until taper.
Hi Carrie, workouts this week have gone really well. My power meter is down and out, so I am a bit bummed about that. I may not get it back for about a week, so I have to try to do my bike workouts on PE and HR. To be honest I have not looked at my HR during my rides since I got the power meter, so today I went to the club and did the ride assigned to my 10am group. 1hr45min ride with 50 minutes of seated climbing in it. Having some stomach problems today which I hope get under control so I can go for my 30km run tomorrow. Was going to go to Manotick again, but am just going to stay in town. We have had such yuckly weather here, that I hope that the roads are at least a bit nice tomorrow. I will report after my run tomorrow.
@ Steve - say your post on the dashboard. Hope you get that mojo back soon dude.

3:27 for me, 3:29 for Steve.
Maybe this is good for Steve. It will allow him to work his way through to the front of wave 2 and have some clear road ahead? We'll see.

I love that several of us have the goal of not getting passed by Carrie LOL
Been quiet mostly since I have been so busy with work, not much chance to run. Did a 20 miler on sunday and will probably do another in a few weeks.
