Nov OS start - forum thoughts - the end is near

Maybe I am missing something but it does not appear that there are forums for the Oct and Nov OS this year.  I assume there is a group thing but personally I am not as big a fan of that as things tend to fall off the page pretty quick and it looks like we will have a big group this year.  I think we should post data and such in the 09 Nov out season forum as, why not.  Maybe even a groovy admin typer person can change the title to 10.

Remember, you do not post the data than YOU DID NOT DO THE WORK, simple as that...

Further, I have seen lots of "im excited, just x more days" posts.  Those folks must be new

I am in no way ready to do anything approaching a 2x20 at the moment, certainly not mentally ready.

I will now descend to the pain cave and turn the pedals in anger for a few minutes to start to get mentally prepared for the work ahead

  •  Ya, this is strange.  I will be doing the Nov OS season.  Raise my level to Intermediate.  I think they will release the forum on Sunday or Monday.  I say the Oct OS 2010.

  • Chris I agree - I am looking forward towards Monday's 2 x 20 (2) with some trepidation. While it is nice to once again have a scheduled plan, the downside is that plan is friggin hard!

I hear you. It's not just the pending pain. It's getting used to the trainer again. That being said, I'm excited for the season at large and IMWI in particular.
  • Fellas - agree with it all - focused on different workouts since my last race in mid-Sept. (no bike, little run and swim - more core, strength stuff like P90X and Insanity) - awesome workouts but I don't think good prep for the 5k test (in for a rude awakening not to mention the 6-8 extra lbs these days!)
  • I agree - these first set of tests are going to hurt !! I wonder how much my bike and the run test numbers will be down from the peak of the season - will see shortly!

Part of me understands that fitness improves in a 2 steps forward 1 step back type rhythm. BUT a big part of me hates to see lower numbers!
  • I guess I'm sick in the head, as I am excited and not new. I did 3 x 12(4) at my outdoor FTP on the trainer yesterday to finish off my pre-outseason warm up.

Sure 2x20 hurts but no one ever said getting stronger was easy!

5AM on Monday I will feel differently, but after I pick myself up off the floor at 6AM I will feel great knowing that I just finished a solid workout.

My bike and bucket are ready!
  • Matt, So glad you're in this group! I should have done a proper pre-OS plan. I stayed outside as long as possible. I did get on the trainer a few times in the last week though. Didn't do anything more than 3x5.

  • Folks, I think to clear up some confusion, the coaches created the Nov. OS GROUP (THAT YOU HAVE TO GO JOIN) discussion thing for us all to post. Once you join its opened up to you to start a thread, post, etc... like the old way.

@Matt A.-- Got my bucket ready to go also. Be nice to see the newbies and how they dirty their floors by not being ready with the bucket. (Or at least they should need the bucket and if not then THEY DID NOT GO HARD ENOUGH) Hear that new ones!!! image
  • I have about 5 minutes total on the trainer since June. Seems like plenty. To top it off i broke a bolt on my stem messing with my tri bike fit cause i am a jackass. Really hope the steerer tube is fine, should be. I am sure one bolt will be plenty strong for the trainer. Gonna ride outside later today and ride the cx bike tomorrow. Gotta stay outside as long as possible.

Oh and matt, there is clearly something wrong with you...

I thought it was normal to do two weeks of FTP work on the training to get ready for the OS

@Trent, I think I only actually used the bucket twice last year, both during the VO2/power hack work and once was becuase I had a cold.  We have to keep improving though so I guess I'm aimming for three times this year

I don't think anything will top Coach P's video of this FTT last year.  Anyone have that link handy?

  • @Chris G. & Matt S. --- oooohhhh man only a small rime on the drainer so far will make for an entertaining test Monday morning. Bringing back to memory coach P's video we need you guys to video your tests so we all won't feel so bad with how we felt.
  • I don't think I have the cojones to put myself out there like that. Watching it now. Five minutes in and his demeanor changes. The talking stops.

  • 18 minutes in is a big snotrocket right on the floor!

  • Around the 47:12 to 47:30 mark on the video is when the bile belches arrive right after finished. Remember all, that is normal after a test. And Matt S. I expect nothing less from you come Monday morn
  • I'm fairly certain there will be bile.

Not new to the OS thing, but...............let's go, let's get it on. 2x20 inside with minimal training is undesirable anyway you shake it but misery loves (virtual) company
  • Their is now a Nov 10 forum now straight down past the Oct 10 one.
  • The test is going to be very little fun.  Thinking maybe Monday evening would be better for me but then I will have to stare it down all day.  Did some solid but short intervals today on the trainer and then a hard hour thirty ride.  Is it a group ride if there is 3 of you?  Any how I envisioned a nice easy ride.  Turned into a hammerfest.  My biggest issue is that I am doing all the OS work on my tri bike this year and I have not been on it since the middle of september other than today and I have messed with the fit since then.

  •  Found the Nov 10 OS forum...wow that is a long way down there...check it out

  • Quick question. In the history of EN has anyone ever done the 20 minute run recovery after the 2X20 test? I never have.... I did do it once in the afternoon after a morning test--but never right after.
  • @Geoff-- If anyone has then they did not truely test all out. No way to run after properly testing. I think they (the coaches) put it in there to see if anyone is crazy enough to try it. I did attempt I think on my first or 2nd test my first OS but only got about 2 or 3 minutes into the run and had to call it.
  • Ditto to what Trent said...I think it is a 'dare'!
  • I've done the "recovery" run once or twice...definitely not after all FTTs though. When I did it, I first soun easy for 10 minutes or so on the bike and then ran REALLY REALLY easy.

I typically do them that afternoon or evening instead.
  • I'm so glad to see that Chris has taken the same general approach as I have for getting ready for the start of the pain on Monday. I've done a few outdoor rides, a spin class (for the novelty of it), and few bike commutes to work, but that has been IT in the last month. My bike test on Monday is going to be a true baseline (emphasis on the BASE) and it ain't gonna be pretty. No videos coming out of my pain cave evah!

On the plus side I've been doing some good core work, and I've been running. Not much in the way of intervals, but good solid, regular runs with occasional pickups/strides. It's still going to hurt....

Matt A. and Matt S. you're results/experience in this first couple of tests will be of particular interest to me. You've both raced most recently than most of the rest of us (ok, than me anyway) so it will be interesting to see whether you find that you feel better/different during this test than prior tests that might not have come so directly after racing and recovery, and whether your numbers end up closer to your prior peaks you might expect.

Happy sweatfest to all of you!
  • also not looking forward to the 2x20. i've been on the trainer and switched to the tri-bike about 2 weeks ago to try and get some idea of what to aim for. everytime i increase the interval length my FTP goal gets lower and lower and lower........ i feel the pain and boy that mental six pack is going to be needed.

my other thought is to steal all the kids candy, eat it and then jump on the trainer hoping the sugar rush lasts for an hour
  • Couldn't wait for the pain and suffering to start so, I tested this am. I was not disappointed, that sucked!! However, much to my surprise, I am starting off better than last year at 320w = 3.1w/kg. I'm a little fat right now so my goal of 3.8-4.0w/kg by IM France (6/26/2011) is still reachable with a little discipline over the next 6+ months.

Where is the Forum and how do I get there? I see it on the forum home page but it appears to be locked.....WTF man?

@drillbit nice to see you in the group, what's the race this year? TOC?

    Happy suffering everyone!
