If You Show Me Yours I Will Show You Mine
OK, get you heads out of the gutter!
Thought it might be fun if people post pics or vids of their pain cave or favorite riding/running locations. I know Linda posted pics earlier in the year of a cool run route through a historic part of the east coast. Was very cool. Always fun to see where folks live and train.
Here is my favorite TT route about a 20 minute ride from my house. I posted in this in the FT thread.

Great idea! Here's the link t that post I put up. It's my run on the Battle Road from Lexington to Concord (and back) where the colonists fought back the British and started the Revolutionary War.
Hopefully this works! I am testing out trying to use photos from Snapfish instead of Flickr. If it doesn't work - well I'll find some others!
Ha! Success - here is the pain cave! Not such a bad "cave" though.
future triathlete?!!
Start of the FTP test route - I am so lucky to live in the middle of nowhere! You have to be careful though because you can end up in Deliverance very easily if you take a wrong turn!!
How would you like to navigate that driveway on a daily basis?!
Most of you have convenience stores - I have Penn's Store - when it's open - that is!
The proprieter of Penn's Store lives here. It is VERY upscale in this "neck o' the woods" - note the lovely above ground pool, the house is not on blocks and there is NO trash or cars on blocks in the yard - VERY POSH!
Not sure how much longer this barn will last
Penn's Store is in Gravel Switch, KY - imagine that!
We are nearing the end of the route now - this is the barn that I usually use as a "rest stop" or place to puke
. Whichever is more pressing
this is probably where you will find me at the end of the NOV OS!
And FINALLY on the days when I just want to torture myself - I take the high road and I go up Catholic Knob! Two miles of sheer "I don't think I can turn these pedals one more time" HELL.
I'll share swimming and running pics another time - I think you've probably had enough - aren't you glad you asked John?
Robin:
Incredible pics. Thanks for sharing. Man, I could hammer those road anytime. Stunning. Where exactly are you loacted?
John
Who's next!?
Well...I guess that I will play.  This is the new and improved pain cave as we finally cleaned up the basement a bit:
Kevin the newest member of my EN sleeper cell came over for a hand installing a new toy and then a ride.  The new toy:
Impressed with the quarq.  Never actually saw one before.  Really easy to install, had it up and running in about 20 minutes.  Just like anyone else with a bike who shows up at the house Kevin was quickly challenged to a race down the driveway.  So weird how my kids are competitive.  The challenger:
We rode through some farms and then along the Mohawk River and Erie Canal, remember history class?  Would have taken more pics but could only stop between intervals.  A farm/apple orchard.  This is about a mile from another orchard where they "invented' the macintosh apple.
Kevin by a pond with the river in the background:
The old canal and a funky bridge that is a marvel of engineering for some reason I forget.  Goes to a cool network of running/nature trails though:
Nice ride on a nice day.  3x8 outside is much nicer than the in cave.  Tomorrow is going to be a high of 56...balmy
Great pics Chris! Your son is too cute - how old is he? We just got rid of all of our "little" bikes - kinda sad
. I can't imagine where he get's his competitiveness! I may have to pick your brain on the Quarq - I have a friend that will join EN in Jan, but used two different sets of wheels, needs a PM - blah, blah, blah - I'll search about it - an all of that is for another thread anyway. It looks interesting though. I love the shiny silver walls in your PC
!
I hope other people will jump in and share too. Great idea John!
John - this is where I live exactly. Hopefully the link will work to show where I go to ride, etc.

Chris:
Great pics! Love those speakers! Cerwin Vega brand? Bet they pump out some bass.
And cool ride pics. You, Robin and Linda live is some beautiful areas!
JOhn
Robin - that is my boy Matt who is 4. The number 1 on the bike is from the local kids tri at which the numbers are assigned from youngest to oldest. It was his second year with that number. Both he and my daughter who is 5 want bigger bikes, and actually she wants a disk wheel...
John - those are Klipsch Quartets circa 1990 and they sure do still kick lots of bass. They has been sitting in the basement forever so I figured why not put them to good use. That and they are so freakin heavy getting them out of there is going to be a massive undertaking
This is my pain cave... Hope to upgrade someday when it wont wake a sleeping 2 month old!
Thanks for posting. And I love the wood door lock. :-)
Who's next?
A view of my pain cave, taken while standing on my dining room table. I pull out the trainer and schlep the bike downstairs the night before so that I can crawl on half asleep in the morning.
I'm too cheap/lazy to buy a riser block, so I use a copy of Susan Faludi's "Backlash" which I've found to be the perfect height. It just occurred to me that that's either ironic or appropriate given my girly pink bike. Hmm.
tom
Suzanne - that is funny about the book - I just use an old telephone book
Love the stuffed ducky toy for your doggie - I train retrievers and I can't tell you how many of those people use thinking they are "training" their dogs to retrieve ducks!
Philip - I am going out on a limb here and guessing your favorite color is RED!
Well actualy im more of a blue kinda Guy haha. But the red bike just looked so awesome I had to get that one!
As for the car. My wife is for sure addicted to red and when we got married I lost the garage haha. (shes nice enough to let me use it for my bike ! maybe someday mayeb she will let me in the house! haha)
Tour of Beth's pain cave. Last winter I biked in the kitchen, and mostly just stared and the trash and the blender.
Welcome! I share a pain cave with Mac -- he's the Bayesian. (Someone who believes probability measures an event will happen in the future. Its an engineering/math thing.) I am going to ask Santa Claus for a matching sign that says "Caution, Pain Cave."
Half bicycle, half law school pain cave. Music stands, btw, make great water bottle holders.
View from the cockpit. I mostly just get to stare at the skier's edge and the tennis racket stringing machine (of out frame).
Me, after intervals. Pain cave hair!
The Ambrose Pain Cave:
A forward view to the fan and laptop for the CT.....
Where I like to perform most of the Vdot pace intervals......
All in all it gets the job done. Due to my schedule, most of my workouts are in late afternoon or early evening. Sometimes late evening after kids go to bed.
Set-up my pain cave tonight. Actually, just my bike in the 3rd bay of the garage. Pulled out my Boston Accoustic jam box and got ready to roll.
Was in a festive mood so I set-up a Christmas tree in da cave. Actually, it is set-up because i am selling it on Craigslist.
My son is happy to see me suffer.
First, I have to have Tom Glynn with me so I have his pic on the computer for inspiration. OK, not really. Just thought I would embarass him a bit.
Good pic from the last Cub Scout Pack meeting, eh?
Next, My son had to make sure everything is dialed in.
OK, we are all set.
For those who read my back and forth on a new aerobar set-up a couple of months ago . . . my new Zipp Vuka clip ons with Zipp Chicance extensions. Love 'em so far.
And I am sure we all have one of these tri geek closets in the house someplace.
That's it.
HA! Ive used a medical dictionary as my front wheel stand a hundred times more than I ever used it to look up something in medical school.....and I still havent killed anyone yet!
Ill get some pics of my cave up and the roads around here in Montana in a bit!
Greg
I like to call this the "Lab"........the only change is that my QR is on the rack now.
Here's the basement cave with the addition of a new/used treadmill as of last week. Great for those short brick runs off the bike and those days when I need to watch the boys and can't get out of the house.
The Pain Cave - Van Style.
One of the good things about moving into a new house is getting to strategically plan one's pain cave. Here is my updated pain cave, which is a big step up from the CLOSET I used to be in.
Im not sure what the aerodynnamic benefits of the baby seat are, but Im sure Zipp will manufacture one soon and sell it for 5000 dollars, of course with ceramic buckles.
Its nice to have everything I need close by. I swear its infnit in the keg there.
Best part is the view though. Nothing like some PS3 to get you through those intervals!
Greg, that is CLASSIC! My wife and I just LOL! Thanks for sharing. And nice pain cave. :-)
Below is my 2010 Ironman combat weaponry...the Giant Trinity Advanced SL-1 with Dura Ace 7900 components (except the brakes). I'm told there are only about 25 in the United States at the moment, and there might be about 100 by year's end. This is an internet photo since I'm lazy, but I brought it home this afternoon after a 2 hr Retul fitting. The only difference between mine and the one below is that it did not include the Zipp wheels. Mine has a Giant carbon wheelset in matching paint scheme that will make nice set of trainers, but I will be using my own race wheels (HED 3C front and Jet Disk rear). I was shopping around ready to order a new bike this week when I found out there were 3 of these in Florida, rode one Saturday, and took the opportunity to get a next generation bike. How's that for aero?
Fortunately, the Giant also includes a carbon crotch protector since I don't happen to have a power meter yet....yikes! Before I get any lectures, right now I think I'm one of those guys where a powermeter might just be a $2K+ speedo. And because I train on 4 bikes (a Lemond trainer at the gym, my KHS indoor trainer pig with orange trainer tire mounted, my Trek Madone 6.9 rode bike which I love, and this new pup. it would be difficult to move the wheel around and not even possible for the Lemond trainer.
@Paul: WOW! That is one sweet rig. As for a PM, consider an SRM unit; I can switch the crankset between bikes in less than 5 minutes.
How adjustable are the aero bar pads?
