Week 1 Bike & Brick Thread

After a nice Wu I did the 2x6 with my new zones after 4min I wanted it to be over but thats good. I am putting speed into the body. Did the main set with Wu and a little zone 3 at the end for a total of 40min.

  • Did the 70min bike ride with 2x6 Z4 then 2x15 Z3 by the middle of the first 15 by legs were on fire but I pushed through it. I transitioned to the run my MP pace wich is 8:45 then I ran HMP pace back at 8:27. It was very cold out ther today and very windy. I had a strong headwind out but a nice tailwind back.
  • @zach,
Glad to hear you had a good brick this first week.
Yesterday was my first hard Saturday bike/run workout since 5/2010. The bike workout felt ok but the run felt much harder than it should have. I did a 5 miler on Thanskgiving day at a pace faster than my Z3/Z4 goals for the brick and really couldn't hold my Z3/Z4 pace for 30 minutes. I know it will take a while to get my bike recovery back but after 5 1/2 months of just running bricks are tough!

My daughter lives in St Louis and she said you had no snow at all this weekend. We got 6 inches in Moline. Must be nice to live in the Southern Midwest. When is Redman?

  • @John great job on your brick yesterday the run will come, I have not a brick either since a small Duathlon I did in October. I am doing Redman which is in Oklahoma City on Sept 24th, it will be my first Half-Ironman if that goes well I want to try a Full next year.

Here in the Midwest the weather is changing all the time but we did get some snow on Thanksgiving here, not much 1/8th''.
  • It's a long way until Sept 24th and with Rich/Pat and the Team's help you will have a killer day! I've been active here since 9/2007 and definitely can tell you that Work Works.ย  IMWI09 was my last(2nd) and I'd highly recommend it when you get to a year with enough time and focus to train for long.

  • today's w/o 2x6' Z4 137W/96%, 137W/96%; 2x15 Z3 116W/82%, 123W/86%

I have to say this felt REALLY easy.

Ditched transition run to gain SAUs as we are having our big annual open haus tomorrow (100+ people)
  • Hey Jane,

If your workouts are feeling super easy I would bump the watts up a little bit. I had the sane thing happen to me this summer, didn't go as hard as I could/should have. It took a few sessions but I figured out some better zones to work from before I retested. Just my two cents.
