Meet your IM CDA Race Captain!!!!!

That's me!!!  Been drafted by Race Director Stark to lead you sorry turkeys to IM glory so don't let me down.  I will go easy on you all as long as you follow a few simple rules:

  1. No visible compression gear in public, that's a violation.
  2. Post race everyone drinks a beer.
  3. Race captains never pay for beer
  4. Everyone has fun.

Ok mainly kidding about the rules, or on second thought, they all seem pretty good to me.....

Honestly, I don't know what the F I'm doing so will try to keep things as fun as possible.  I hear it's an easy gig.  Post-race at the brewery, need to find a pre-race dinner location, plus lots of other little things.

We also have this smartphone app called Beluga which will mainly be used for race week to communicate amongst ourselves as well as our families.  This way RnP can let our families know where they are, what they are seeing, etc.  Our families can also use it to communicate during the race as well to each other.  We just need to get everyone signed up into it.

Please let me know if you'd like to be invited now so you can check it out.  It has messaging and mapping functions.  It's a neat little toy if you are into those things.  We can play with it along with the discussion groups if there is interest.

I don't have much else right now.  Feel free to destroy me now.

  • Congrats Captain! Do your Captain Morgan pose!

As I have no family coming with me this time, I plan on running right from finish to the brewery, stinking pants and all.

  • tucker,

thanks for serving in this role.  very generous of you.

    sincerely, gh

  • I might be interested in that Beluga thing...let me know!

Also, I was going to experiment with compression socks, actually just the calf guards, as the socks helped during the winter UNDER MY RUNNING PANTS...aka, out of visible sight. However, they seemed to help, so, I was going to give them a shot on some of these long runs...please don't eject me from the team if I make a race day decision to roll with them!
  • @Stephen, clarification on compression gear. DURING the race is cool. If you want in on Beluga right now shoot me your email and I will add you to it.
  •  @ Tucker, I'm glad you clarified your rule regarding compression gear as I was about ready to start a mutiny .  It's good to have you as our race captain!

  • Mutiny? I'll be watching you Scott.
  • Can I get my Beluga with a side of vodka?

  • @Tucker...thanks for the clarification. The only other time that I generally wear my compression is with my khaki shorts when I go to the store with my wife and daughter; and I like to wear those Vibram five finger shoes too...

Alright, I just kidding...even thought that is probably actually pretty comfortable.

Here is my email...kurshing@aol.com...for the Beluga thing? Thanks for your work!
  • Tucker, thanks for stepping up. But why wait for post race for a beer? I plan on rolling with a 20-ounce Bud Light* on my downtube and a Big Mac clam shell zip-tied to my top tube. Sign-me up for the funny-looking white whale thing (artzaske@gmail.com)

*While I am no fan of domestic macro brews, this is mostly water anyway, so seems to be the appropriate choice
  • @ Tucker, I'm in for the Beluga app (scottwstewart@gmail.com).

@ Art, I'll probably already be stumbling to the finish line, so I think I'll hold off on the beer until post race. I like the big mac idea. Just put some french fries in your bento box and you'll be set.

  • Allright so you 3 clowns have been invited. I will ignore the Bud Light comment. And the Vibrams.

    Love the bike holder!

  • Tucker:

Thanks for doing the RC gig!  I knew you would make it fun!  Between you, Peter and Carly you will have it all covered!

All - jump on the Beluga app and starting playing with it.  Works for iPhone, Android and just text if you don't have a smartphone.  We used a similar app at IMAZ last November and it was very, very cool.  Great way to keep everyone in the loop all week long and for general smack talk.

Beluga will be the (almost) exclusive team comms channel for Rich and Patrick druing race week at EN IM events this year.

Again, big thanks to Tucker for being da Man.

    John

    EN Race Director

  • Ok, I want in on Beluga also. Downloading it for Android right now.
  • @ Tucker - Thanks for stepping up

I just downloaded the Beluga app on my phone. How do we get connected in Beluga? Is it just a matter of friending each other on Facebook? My email is allen@peakportfolio.com.
  • Ditto on what Allen is asking. Is it okay to all it full access to my Facebook? My email is drgregvan@gmail.com.
  • @ Tucker or John, any idea which day the team dinner will end up being? I know this is a bit early to talk about race week details, but I'm trying to figure out when I should arrive in town. The easiest day for me to drive over would be Friday, but if the team dinner is on Thursday I would try to make it into town for that.
  • You 2 have both been added. Still waiting for the other turkeys to actually accept the invitation.
I didn't like the whole facebook aspect of it either but they do own Beluga now so what can you do. Apparently if you went through the web there was a different process.
  • my email for the beluga deal is:

    gilberto.hernandez.jr@gmail.com

    thanks!

    GH

  • I bet you got spammed when the invitation came to me...can you invite me again and i will be on the lookout? Thanks!
  • @Stephen, you have been invited again. I assume the problem is your ancient AOL email account.
  • Tucker - congrats and good luck on being our fearless leader.  My email for beluga is: james.r.price@usdoj.gov.  Thanks!

  • Welcome Rob! I just moved from Richmond last year!

  • Dude - Just checking in to EN as on the road - and low and behold you are now are fearless leader! Congrats and looking forward to having an Outstanding time chasing this crazy IM thing. Like your rules - I"m with you on the compression gear... Let me know if I can help.

Here's my email for the Beluga jtthompson@optonline.net
  • OK, our fearless Race Director John Stark has informed me that he would like us to not add new members to the Beluga pod until closer to race week. They don't want us to take away from the discussion boards here. Now I like to thumb my nose at authority and don't think it would take away from this board as its more texting, but what say you folks?
  • Seems like we have a pretty active group yes? I like both.
  • Welcome leader!!! I grew up in CDA and my family lives there. Let me know if you need anything from folks who are "on the ground" before race day. Beluga me at madmaysdad@gmail.com
  • I personally think it's a good idea for us to test out the Beluga thing prior to race week. The last thing we need during race week is the stress of trying to figure out how to get added to Beluga and trying to figure out where to meet people, ect. I also think it would be a good idea for us to use it when we meet in May for the RR.
  • Agreed Van. We can rock both equally hard.
