What it takes... April 2011

  • Hi Ladies. Sorry I have missed out on the conversation for awhile. Have had some medical issues going on, and just plain busy and tired! I hope all of you are well.
I'm back on blood pressure meds...gained a bit of weight back from last year, and my job hasn't helped either.
Back to physical therapy for my lower back. The therapist is great, and has helped to loosen things up quite a bit. However, I still have pain 24/7, and will need to get an injection. I can't see doing IMLOU w/out a pain injection first. And, last but not least, a tooth that I recently had a root canal in, and was to have a crown put on, cracked in half, when I bit into a hard crust on garlic bread. Dentist looked at it and said it cannot be saved...So, I have to have my lower right 2nd molar extracted. I am not happy about that. I wasted money on the root canal, only to lose my tooth! I've never lost a tooth before. Does anyone know if endodontists usually put a temporary crown on teeth which they have done a root canal? Mine didn't. Just wondering.
My training has not been going 100% EN prescribed, based on all of the above. However, I've been running, and biking, and have started swimming again. When our weather settles down, I hope to knock out some hard numbers on the bike.
Well, gotta go to p.t. now. Hope everyone has had a good day, and will continue to do so for the rest of the day! Big hugs to all of you ladies!
  • I've been lurking

Naturally I'm going to miss some people (sorry!)

Sheryl- definitely feel your angst about IMTX as I was in your position two years ago, and I agree with everyone that it was likely the best decision.

    Nemo- too cute!

Gigi- motivation when you're hurt can be really tough.  I found the best way was to just step away for a while and do more active things "for fun" and not because that's what my training schedule said.  made it a lot easier to come back from my injury refreshed and happy about triathlon.

Carly- I hope your race countdown is going well.  Will cross my fingers for a few good weather days for outdoor training (I feel your pain here in Chicago).

Penny- Sounds like a crazy busy time!

Michele- your pics were awesome, very jealous of your trip (since IMWI was my last "vacation." ha.)

Becky- boo allergies.  I've had them all my life, and ugh, no fun ever.  Re: Mike & kids, it definitely takes some time to get used to that dynamic - for everyone.  Took a while for my dad, stepmom, and I to figure out what everyone is supposed to do, be treated, etc. when they were dating.  It's a constantly evolving process which tends to be even more complicated cause they are kids trying to figure out themselves which is hard anyway!  Hope your PF starts clearing up, I've had some early signs of it the last few days, I'm hoping the stretching, icing, and a little rest will nip it in the bud.

Barb- I've been seeing your updates on the NW IN tri club.  Looks like things are really taking off!  I hope your back responds to the PT.

I have been slowly introducing longer and harder workouts over the course of April, and will attempt to start my HIM plan on May 1.  I'm hoping it goes well, I'm tired of being hurt   I've taken a bit of a break from dating as it was making me extremely poor.  I'm not sure how, but somehow I've managed to pick guys that ask me out for drinks/dinner and I've ended up paying for at least half.  I wouldn't mind if it was just drinks, but they are picking places that are pretty expensive, and I don't want to drop $50 for a Tuesday night meal when I have plenty of food in my fridge!!  Oh well!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

  • Sooooo, did any of you ladies watch the wedding? What's the gossip?
  • Oh my gosh I had my cortisone shot in my hip this morning and not sure if I would be sore I took the day off work. So glad I did! The wedding was gorgeous! I've got 7 hours dvr'ed so far. I'm totally obsessed. I LOVED the dress, the intimate whispers, the exit in the convertible - sorry for the spoiler! Kate M is stunning and classy. The hats were fabulous. I'm so not into fashion but this got to me - I loved the fashion, style, ceremony. And I'm still watching...Loved it loved it loved it!
  • So here is my possible plan for 2012.... oh wait, it's May 1st. You'll have to head to the May thread... hee hee hee
