I went to sign up for Oceanside last week and it is sold out, therefore Wildflower is now on the top of my list. Looks like Wildflower registration is already open and I'm VERY serriously considering it.
Anyone know how quickly it typically sells out?
I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on this if there is going to be an EN group at this race.
Matt, I too am waiting to see if there is an official EN entourage going to WF lead buy Coach R. Maybe we need to punch him somewhere sensitive to get him to commit to being the camp counselor there? I'll try a gentle nudge first.
After spending this week in Aspen with Scott A, Al T & others, i have been brainwashed that i MUST do this... I am seriously considering it. I might consider renting an RV, splitting or not but adding to the EN base camp... anyone else in?
I'm in... Since i've never done it. Is this a 'family type' atmosphere? Ie. should I bring my 2 1/2 yo and 6 yo kids to this.. They like camping. Or should I leave them at home?
Peter, yes, lots of families there. However, it can be primitive. Meaning, there are no "camp sites," per se. Anywhere you can find space for your vehicle and your tent...that's your campsite. I'll get up there a couple days early to get some space but, again, it's not "_this_ is my space, and _that's_ yours. You will have to walk to a bathroom, there are only a couple shower buildings and the water is lukewarm at best, etc.
This definitely intrigues me. I love to go back to courses I've done before to guage my progress, fitness and execution-wise. Esp if there's a big team presence, I'd be interested.
Concern tho, I'll be coming back from Majorca Spain for my big cycling trip, on 4/23, so I'd have less than 2 weeks of recovery before WF. Can I adequately recover between Spain and WF, ya think?
Scott - I had a great HIM race in the heat in Spokane @ Troika a week after doing a week-long bike tour through Canada's Great Parks (Banff, Jasper, etc.). Two weeks ought ot have you in peak form.
Cool. I've upgraded my tent camping kit recently, in advance of some moto-camping adventures planned in the next couple months, and now have 3 tents, from 2-man to 8-man, and 4 sleeping bags, including a double that you and Al or Scott could share...
Would love to be there for this! Katy and I raced Wildflower in 2004 (pre-kids) and both loved this race. There is probably no way I could go and do this without her, and it would be quite a logistical challenge to come there with the family. Plus, Wildflower is a LONG way from coastal Mississippi!
So, if EN is springing for a camping space, and I'm driving from Puget Sound (to stop and see wife's sister on the way home), can I just park in the day use area (free for participants) and use the EN camping area? Or do I have to pay the $60/day for camping?
EN isn't "springing" for anything. I'll get up there early, find a spot for my trailer, tell everyone where it is and you can all camp near me. I have no idea how/if there is a day use area, how it works, etc. Basically, the race rents/leases the entire park so if you're coming inside the gate, in a vehicle, you gotsta pay something. Dunno how much though, I'm sure it's on the site somewhere.
In '04 I didn't do the race, Joanne and I rode my Goldwing up to Monterey for a wedding instead. On the way up we swung by the lake to say high to some friends inside. I had to talk my way inside the gate, telling them I wasn't camping and was only going inside to visit some friends and would be right out.

I read on the Internet that Dinhofer likes to "spoon" on the first date. Just sayin'.
When I registered for this, there was the option to reserve camping spots that seemed ludicrously expensive. Anyone else see that or am I imagining things? I didn't mark anything down on the website, but I'm assuming theres got to be another way. I've got no problems paying something reasonable, showing up with my own tent and trying to gang rush the EN "base camp".

Al emailed me to tell me that registration for WF is open.
WF'12 will be an OFFICIAL TeamEN race and I'll be on hand to race, organize stuff, etc.
This is a very, very, very fun weekend! More details later but if you're planning on race, go ahead and register soon.
Looking forward to it.
I've created a Wildflower 2012 Group for all you wannabe hippies.
Got this from my tri club today for Wildflower:
"Sign up to race by October 30 and receive $10 off registration. Enter Promo Code: RACEWF11
**NOTE: The Coupon Code is case sensitive and needs to be entered into the Coupon Code section on the payment page."
they have a naked run thru the campground every year and i am not sure what will happen with all those ENers there at the same time.

Looking forward to debuting on the CA tri scene.
Thanks for the code Al.
Awesome! I guess I need to register now . Are the Girlz coming?
Nope, the girls don't do camping.
I'm looking forward to the whole weekend.

Sorry, Matt ... my wife will be sharing my tent.

The weekend after WF, I have to be down in L.A. for a wedding, so it might be a whole week+ in Cali for me - which I'm never opposed to.
I'm working on getting budgetary approval. I'll have to sell it as "It's way cheaper than me going to ToC"
