Group Buy: Powertap SL+/Hed Belgium Power Training and Racing Package

Team,

I’ve worked with Wheelbuilder to get us closeout prices on Powertap SL+ Hed Belgium builds, just in time for the start of the OutSeason. TeamEN pricing on this specific build is better than the already low sale prices they will/are displaying to the public. Rich has worked with me to offer these prices exclusively to EN members

TeamEN Powertap Package:

This is our best, highest value, high ROI recommendation. Combines a Powertap SL+ built into a high quality, Hed Belgium training wheel.

Why do we recommend a Hed Belgium over a Kinlin, DT Swiss or Velocity DeepV wheel?

The Hed Belgium uses a 23mm wide rim track designed to improve aerodynamics by optimizing the interface between tire and rim.  Additionally the wider brake track significantly improves ride and cornering characteristics delivering a comfortable wheel that carves through the canyons with predictable steering qualities.  This has been the most popular aluminum rim in the Wheelbuilder line.

You then toss on a $79 wheelcover to turn it into a disk. This is the setup ($$ wheel + $ wheelcover vs $$$$$ race wheel) that probably 80% of EN power-training athletes run.

We then offer you WKO+ and our Power Webinar at great prices so you have all the tools you need to get the most out of our powermeter purchase:

  • Powertap SL+ built into a Hed Belgium wheel: $1099, compared to:
  • Bladed vs round spokes: add $45
  • Computer choices (prices below are when purchased with a wheel):
    • Joule: $250 w/ HR vs $399
    • Garmin 310XT w/ HR: $365 vs $399
  • Wheelcover: $79 vs $89.95
  • WKO+ Software: $99 vs $129
  • Power Webinar: $49 vs $79
  • New: Add a Hed Belgium front to match this build : $369
  • Add $35 for shipping
  • Add $39 if you’d rather pay via PayPal vs a check made out to me.

Just add up what you want and email me at rich@endurancenation.us.

For example, if you ordered this PT SL+ and Hed Belgium build, added the Joule, bladed spokes, wheelcover, WKO, and the Power Webinar, and paid via PayPal, your total price is $1695, shipped. Compare this to $2285 retail.

Availability: your wheel will ship to you right away with the monitor of your choice and wheelcover. I will deliver WKO and the power webinar to you via email. However, quantities are limited. WB has purchased Saris’ remaining stock of SL+ Powertaps. This EN-only deal on the Powertap SL+/Hed Belgium build closes on October 31st or when they have sold out of SL+ hubs.

Again, please email me at rich@endurancenation.us to start the ordering process.

  • Hi
What do they offer in a 650c?
    Thanks
    Terrie
  • This looks awesome! Can this be shipped to Canada? I assume shipping costs go up a bit. What about duty, taxes, etc.?

  • Let me throw in a good word here. Last year my Powertap wheel arrived in Toronto, only *24* hours after paying via PayPal!!!!!!! Super service, price and product.
  • Thanks, Elly! That answered my question pretty darn quick! Ha!

  • Great minds think alike!

My wife Jane also ordered a PowerTap wheel and that one also was at our door in 24 hrs. Very scary.
  • Just another thumbs up from a satisfied customer on this great deal.  I ride this exact setup and it is a bombproof wheel.  I'm a bigger guy and I haven't had to true this wheel in the year I've had it.

  • @Chris - did you get the matching front wheel? If not, what are you riding?
  • OK, major newbie question, but how do you know if this "works" for your bike?
  • @Terrie: this rim doesn't come in 650c but they can do this with another rim. Please email me at rich@endurancenation.us

@Kim: the Powertap is a hub that you build a wheel around. So all you do is swap out your current wheel for this Powertap wheel. The wheel talks to the computer wirelessly so no cables to route. Very, very easy and there really is no "will this work with my bike."
  • Is there any way a loyal EN/Wheelbuilder customer might get in on a Joule upgrade at this good price? The LYC, while cute, does not have real time IF.

I was told that's the price for purchase of a Joule with a custom wheel build. Retail, if purchased separately, is $399.

I do not have a matching front Hed Belgium but it's not because I don't like the wheel.  We are a 5 road/tri bike family so I have wheels everywhere.  I just needed the PT wheel and I use whatever front I have around for training such as a Bontrager, Planet X, Mavic.  I race with a 404 front.

If the rear Hed has been as solid as it has for me, I can only imagine the front would be as well since the rear takes all the abuse.

    Beth,

There are new Joule's coming out in November for MUCH cheaper, like $250.  Also, you could buy a Garmin Edge 500 for $200-250, and Garmin will be releasing a firmware for real-time metrics any day/week now.

  • Beth,

Tell me what you want and I'll see what I can do.

All: can I please handle the customer service stuff in this thread? I'm 3 miles away, a text message, phone call, bike ride, and/or beers away from the largest PT dealer on the planet. I will always do my best get you the best price and deal that I can. But it doesn't help when people post "I heard this about that which might be out next monthmaybecuzIreaditinablog."

Sorry, big money involved here and want to be the one point of contact for people on this stuff so that people aren't confused and communication is clear and timely. Thanks.

  • ...and I say this because 2yrs ago, when the Joule came out, Rich thought they were coming out in about October so I did a group buy for the team and collected about $5k in checks...then November came...then December...then January...they didn't come until February. NOT COOL to be sitting on a customer's money for months and months when you can't deliver.

So I'll believe the new Joule and the new price point when I'm actually holding a second generation unit in my hand and the rest of the world has beta tested it for me. Until then, the clock is ticking on THIS order. If you have questions, post them here or email me and I'll answer them.

    Thanks.

  • Rich,

I have been saving for some form of power unit. I am leaning towards a quarq because I have a set of Hed deep rimmed wheels that I ride most of the time but sometimes I do switch them out for something lighter. I would like to know your thoughts on the PT v quarq, assuming at this time price is not an issue as I have saved up for something. I am not yet sold on the new pedal based stuff that is coming out due to some reviews I have read. Thanks for your thoughts.
  • Coach, i currently have Reynolds Carbon wheels On my Bike.
Going with this set up I change my back Wheel and keep my Reynolds upfront?
    Pls advice
    Tks
    Juan
  • @Michael:

    1. DO NOT get a first generation powermeter and don't wait for it to come out.
    2. Both PT and Quarq are excellent, proven system. I usually recommend Powertap because the price of a package I'm able to put together with a PT is about $400-500 less expensive than Quarq. But if you already have $$$ wheels, like them, and the cost difference isn't really an issue for you, then a Quarq might be a better option for you.

@Juan: yes, the Powertap is a wheel that replaces your current wheel. Also, not necessary to have front and back wheels that "match," other than for appearances sake.

  • Coach,
Tks for your quick reply. Can I also get the matching front Wheel via EN (for "cosmetic" purposes).????
  • Yep, I'll get a price on a matching front wheel and add it to the first post. Standby

  • Thanks for the thoughts Coach P.
  • Sorry meant Coach R. Advice very helpful.
  • Team,

Just added a matching Hed Belgium front wheel option for $369, see the first post.

  • Coach,
May I ask which Hed Belgium model is the one offered in the package?
    Tks
    Juan
  • Juan,

As far as I know there is only one variety of Hed Belgium wheel?

  • OK, so I'm still mulling this over... Also, trying to figure out Joule vs. Garmin. Without having ever used power before, not really sure of the practical pros/cons of each. I've read some comments & reviews in threads and elsewhere but still not sure which is right for me. I currently have a Polar watch that has HR + pace although seems inaccurate, then accurate kind of randomly so in that regards, I'm leaning towards the Garmin. But then I've read some things about what it doesn't display re: power so again, no sure. FOr a first time PM user, what what you reco?
  • Kim,

As I understand it the Garmin products don't have the TSS/IF but this is an upgrade that has been promised shortly.  The Joule  shows these numbers and more information to me is better if you use it.

If you go with a Garmin 310XT or the new 910 you will have one device for your whole event, S/B/R.

A final option which I went with purely because of cost is just using the PT little yellow computer (LYC).  It does not have the TSS/IF but this was a cost decision for me at the time and I already had a Garmin 305 for the run.

I have been waiting to upgrade my LYC and have been thinking that it will probalby be a garmin unit.  I guess my recommendation is don't let the computer decision hold you back from getting power for the OS but if you can get a package deal go for it if you can afford it.  I'm currently leaning towards a 310XT as the prices will drop, but waiting for the firmware upgrade to get TSS/IF.

I'll leave the more detailed comment to those that have acutally owned these devices.

  • @Gordon (and Rich)- Does tht PT LYC come with the PT as part of this package? That might actually be the best option for me until I figure out if I want to keep the Polar or something else. (And buys me some time!)
  • Kim,

Yes the LYC comes with the PT hub.  Beyond this you just need some software.  WKO 3.0 (I use WKO) is used around here by many but there are some other options.  I'd also recommend the power webinar as well to get you up to speed on the terms, and how to use the PT.
