I'm out. Turns out, i would face a lifetime of pain for missing my first anniversary for a triathlon camp. I guess that should have been obvious, but I had to try.
Just throwing this out there for all you campers that are doing some OS training getting ready for this camp. On day 3, around the 65 mile mark, we will ascend a Cat 1 climb that's about 12.5 miles long. Last night, I was reviewing my file in WKO of that climb during last years camp. It took about 1:42, avg speed around 7mph, grade about 5%, avg cadence 65 with a 50/34 up front, 12/27 in the back. IF was 0.75 and my FTP then was 235. Last year we did this at the end of day 1. This year we will be doing this climb at the end of day 3 with possibly 200+ miles and 17,000' of climbing already behind us. I guess my points are this 1. bring all the gears you can to this camp 2. Might want to consider some big gear work around the 65-70 rpm cadence at 75-80%FTP for some lengthy intervals.
I'm only around for the first 2 days so I'll miss this fun but I will be riding the double metric century at Mountains of Misery on that Sunday - 13,000ft of climbing over 125 miles
@ Dave - you trying to scare us away? lol I think I'd rather not know whats coming until I'm on it.... But I got a 50/34 up front w/a 28/12 on back on my tri-bike. I should think that be enough to carry my big ass up the hill (assuming I make it to that point).
Oh, I'll drive the SAG wagon alright, but not up the climb. I want that baby!! If you ride this camp, you want this climb!! Spent some of todays FTP intervals on the trainer at 65rpm and had this going for some "getting my head in the game" just for this climb. Whether you like country music or Reba, the lyrics are just too good to pass up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVXNOIWqcTc&ob=av2e
Dave, Take your word for the song. I could not get the link to play. I have already been thinking about that climb too....Whiddon is bringing me an extra compact to put on my bike and I am shedding weight! Hopefully the weather this year will be a mirror image of last year.
Cool Ralph, go to youtube and search for I'm going to take that mountain by Reba McIntyre. Yea that one will be all about watts/kg, gearing, and a tough mind. Hoping for a great weather day also. Couldn't beat last year!!
Looks like a challenge is brewing down south in the north Georgia mountains. I hate to tell them, but its hot as hell there in July!! Never the less, sharpen up those climbing legs boys and girls we've got some work to do. We may be hitting that Cat 1 x2 if we need it. Good news is we get to set the bar as high as we want.
