  • Sorry to see Steve and Al out....two of my running idols. I'm plugging along. Did 1/2 mile intervals in 33 degrees tonight. Knee still feeling good. 13/13 for me!
  • Steph - I'll be watching, even though I'm sidelined!
  • @Al - sorry to see you out as well. Best of luck with the PF.

13/13 for me, though I'm fighting a wicked cold/cough. Managed only 10:30 pace for 3 miles on the treadmill. That's about z1 for me, so not too bad. Couple of observations I have from tmill running are 1. The stiffer the platform the less discomfort I feel - thought a softer tension would feel better. 2. I have a very hard time picking up the pace on the tmill. A 9:00-9:15 pace outside feels like a 10:30 pace indoors. It's not caused by motivation and it is very similar as to what happens on the bike trainer. Personally I have to ignore the weather and get outdoors as much as possible to see any gains. Last observation, after 13 days I'm cooked. Could be the cold/sickness. But I know I couldnt continue to run z3 pace and go another 17 days.

Keep up the good work all!
  • Took yesterday off to heal my right foot. Funny thing is, when I woke up yesterday morning my foot felt great! Decided to take the day off anyways due to a very busy day at work. Got up this morning and decided to give it a shot again and felt great! 4.6 miles in 37:55 at an average pace of 8:13. Did 3 sets of strides at the end. So although my 30 day challenge is in the toilet, I will run as much as I am able. Which will still be much more volume than I normally would have.

@Al- Sorry to hear about the continued ailments that you are suffering from. Better to shut it down now than to screw up the OS.

    @Steph- You're such a stud!
  • I am still a "Go" with 13 runs. 12/12 ran on mill 4.25 miles in 35 minutes with some pickups; 12/13 ran on mill 40 minutes with 2 mile w/u, 4 x .125 @ 10.0 (1:15 rec), 2 x .25 @ 10.0 (2:30 rec) and 1 x .5 @ 10.0. Legs are feeling a bit tired, but good!
  • @Steve - welcome back.

14 for 14 last night. 3.5 miles in 32:22 (pretty even 9:18 pace throughout) at 41 degrees and 9pm. Not killing it, but running steady and looking forward to my evening runs now. Just finishing up with a chest cold, otherwise would have been in to run longer. I'm fully 1 minute/mile faster outside with the same RPE.

I finally found a goal for this challenge other than 30 for 30 and am looking forward to really picking up the mileage during the last week of December for the run challenge - kind of like keeping my pace steady through 3/4 of a marathon and giving it all I have left the last 6 miles.

My other goal is to try to have dinner with my wife tonight and still try to get my run in. Might be another late night run.
  • Run 15 - 4.44 miles in 42:44 outside (9:37 average pace). We're getting a great stretch of 40 degree weather in NJ and that is perfect running temp for me. Half way home!
  • Only a few of us left... let's keep it going. 12/15 did 4.3 miles on mill in 36, today, 12/16 did 4.3 in 35 mins with 2.4 mileas @ 7.0, the last 1.9 increasing by .1 speed every .1 mile. Finished @ 9.0, that was fast. Have now done 17 days in a row (started 11/30, and I ametermined to get this done if possible. Legs are feelling god and hopefully getting strong and flexible. Not too much distance and not too much intensity!)
  • Nice work David!

Run 16 of 16 last night for me. 2.92 miles in 33:24 (11:27/mile pace). Needless to say, that was easy for me. But the dog was dragging her butt! My 1 yo lab was begging to go with me so I slapped a blinking light on her collar and took her for a spin around the neighborhood. She's not much of a runner yet, but it's a 1min/mile improvement for her since this summer. I'm just trying to add some fun to the challenge to keep it interesting. Back to the solo runs tonight and might mix it up with her to see how she comes along.
  • 17 of 17. Finally getting over the cold. 4.5 in 40:22 with progressively faster pace: 9:14, 9:09, 8:52, 8:45, and last 1/2 in 9:01.
  • 12/17 ran around Forest park, bigger than Central Park. 8.9 miles in 1:17. A pretty fun run just cruising. Not going to be many of these this year before the snow and ice hits...
  • Yesterday I ran the Tacoma Santa Run 5K in 19:26 ( a PR by :42) that got me 4th place AG and 21st OA. The guy that won my AG did it in 16:36 and is the reigning Tacoma City Marathon Champion (5 x in a row).

Today got back in the swing of things and hit my usual run course for nearly 6 miles in 44:xx and an avg pace of 8:09/mile. Instead of running even paces I ran 1 minute zone 5 then 2 minutes zone 1 recovery for 4+ miles.

Next saturday is a Jingle Bell Run (3 miles) that I have been challenged to do by my nephew (captain of his CC team). I beat him yesterday by nearly 3 minutes! Oh, it's on like donkey kong!
  • @ Steve - that's more like it - a VDOT above 50, now, makes getting towards 3:45 in Canada a real possibility. By August, you should be a lean machine. I'm still resting my foot, committed to not running until Feb 12 (when I return from my second ski trip.)
  • Way to step down, Al! And Steve, so glad you are feeling a bit better.

I am 18 runs for 18 days. Determined to run AND ski through this vacation week. Did a few intervals yesterday that didn't feel so great, easy run today felt awesome.

    Happy Sunday everyone!

  • Happy New Year's Eve!  While I have not been good about posting daily mileage or keeping others motivated (apologies), I did manage to complete my 30 run goal last night without missing a single day.  My total mileage for December was 126.8 miles, with 39 miles over the past week.

My only goal for the run challenge was to run 30 straight days, which is a challenge in itself with my schedule.  I plan on continuing this little challenge until I hit 100 days, and will try to complete this while following the January OS starting next week.  I approached the first 30 days of running as motivation to stay active post-IM and found out that I really enjoy having the fitness to get out the door on any given day to lay down 6 or 7 miles depending on my mood.  I'm hoping that continued running through the Jan OS will add some much needed speed to my run form.  I would love a vDot in the mid- to high-40's in 2012.

    Happy New Year EN!

    Dominic

  • Dominic ... Way to go! With this kind of production, I suspect I will not be passing you on the run if web do an IM together again. As for me, tomorrow I get back on the road for my first one back after shutting down for nearly three weeks. My foot feels great, and I've added 5 pounds since IM AZ. I need to get rid of that bowl full of jelly.
  • Thanks for the challenge everyone. I have run all 31 days of December! Feeling a little twinge in my knee this morning again, iced for a long time after I was done running. I am hopeful that the pain is short lived and that stepping down a bit from running will help. I never would have kept up with this if it wasn't for the challenge. EN is the best!
  • Nicely done Stephanie! Happy New Year
