January TeamEN "Bring The Pain" 1k (aka Beat Jeremy Behler) Swim Time Trial Challenge
January TeamEN "Bring The Pain" 1k (aka Beat Jeremy Behler) Swim Time Trial Challenge
OK folks, time to get your chlorine cleanse on! Join your fellow teammates swimming a 1,000 yard time trial. Yep, swimming in the Outseason! This will be a great baseline for future tests during your training plans later in the year.
And to make this more fun . . . I am officially calling out Jeremy Behler to step up and get busy. We did Ironman Arizona together this past November and he swam an amazing 1:01:40 for that 2.4 miles. However, I don't think he's been near even a puddle of water since. So I am challenging him to get wet, do the 1k TT, and then post his time/pace. Then it will be the rest of the team's challenge to do the swim TT and see if you can come close or beating lethargic, fat, slow Jeremy's time. Whatcha think, Jeremy? You game, brotha?
This challenge is simple:
- Complete the challenge between January 13th and January 31st.
- Shave your hairy post-holiday legs (gotta look tri, right?)
- Head to the pool
- Swim 1,000 yards as fast as you can.
- Shower
- Head home
- Post your TT time in this GoogleDoc
It's that simple and below is your target! Yep, that is Jeremy at IMAZ. He sure looks slow. And if Jeremy can come back from non-existent swimming to do this challenge . . . . so can everyone on the team!
GAME ON!
P.S. Before you go flaming me with PM's, Jeremy and I have chatted about this and he agreed to be the target for this event. This is all in good fun! Thanks again, Jeremy!

Shaving is not mandatory.
Well, except for Tucker McKeever and his Secret Suffragette Society members. I read on the Internet they are all nasty "Fred" hairy!
I need to get a 1k baseline anyway, so WTF... In...
Coach P only if you post pics!!!! Hi res is not required :-)
I'm in. I gotta do something to get going. Just love those 1000's.
OMG - so embarrasing .......do we really have to post our Swim TT? Ok, if all of you promise not to laugh (smile silently only) I'm in. I will do it in an outdoor, heated 50M pool in the morning - temp forcasted to be 29 F. This will help keep me accountable.........btw, I'm not shaving - that could take me days.....
Got 'er done this AM: 600 w/u (200swim/200kick/200pull) then into the wet-pain cave. 1000yds @ 14:33 1:27/100yd. I'm now having a hard time lifting my arms to work the keyboard.
So what mark are we going to set for one to earn an official "EN Fish" moniker? 15 minutes? Not that I'm going to get within 45 seconds of that when I do this on Sunday. I'd honor anyone who can do this test and get a predicted 65 minute or better split for an IM. Looking at the post-race spreadsheets, I eyeball an average IM pace of 93% of the 1000 yd/m test, with some doing it at 100%. Let's see, 65 divided by 42, times 0.93, carry the one, oh damn, I ran out of fingers! It looks like 1:26.5 is the pace for 93%, or if one used 100%, it would be 1:33. So 1:30/100 yds looks like a good cut-off to me to get called a "Fish" around here.
I'm in, I'll have to do it on Monday after I coach. Although I suppose I could make my entire team do it on Saturday (evil grin).
Hmn - I like challenges. I haven't been in the pool since, well, October sometime. So, three months with no swimming. Sounds like a great way to ensure my swimming only improves from this TT!
I'll put this off like Brenda and get my head straight first! Now where are those goggles?
I am so dreading this! Been doing really long yardage on the ~ 1:45's but not sure if I can get sub-1:30;a for 1k. This will be painful!
Got it done last night after my VO2 Bike intervals and brick run. Not exactly rested, but oh well!
13:54, not as fast as before I broke my arm, but not as slow as I feared, so I'm happy!
Esteemed Race Director :
I've awaken from my post IMAZ slumber and your challenge got my butt in the pool for the first time last week. It hurt...pretty bad. Hoping to get back in this weekend. Going to buy as much time before 1/31 to make sure I represent as best as possible.
I have one thing to clear up, however.....
You say above "We did Ironman Arizona together this past November" To be clear...I wouldn't say we did it 'together' unless you call getting out of the water 20+ minutes later being 'together'! ZING!
OUCH! LMFAO! Touche, my friend!
Done! I did a 17:23 for 1000m at a 1:44/100m pace. Not bad for first time in the water since Oct and I only slipped from 15:55/1000m, which is 9'/100m.
I'm in. Setting the bar...only one way to go. 18 minutes.
I am going to give it a try this week. Got in the pool during my son's swim lesson. One question. Can I use floaties?
