@ Rich - I'm not asking specifics. I'm just wondering if the master plan is intended to be a fixed plan for all future years, or if the targeted races will vary each year. Heck, I change my outyear race schedule all the time!
Paul, understood but you're asking about 2014 stuff. We just don't know. Thanks!
I like the idea of a master plan with lots of EN folks participating, so I'm in for Lake Placid 2013!Super Excited!
The question is what do I do now before the official plan starts at the end of October? Any suggestions here? Should I focus on a weaker discipline, sign up for some Sprints? I pretty much took this year off due to my foot issue that I'm recovering from. Thanks!
Rich, Thanks so much for responding to my question in the macro thread. After thinking about it, this is what I came up with. Please tell me if this looks right to you? I'm open to any suggestions. I tried to mirror the (Master Season Plan - Ironman Lake Placid --or-- A-race happening before 8/1/2013). Thanks!
Sept 3rd = 14 weeks OS intermediate plan December 10th = 1 week transition December 17th = 6 weeks “run” focus January 28th = 4 weeks get faster plan (half-marathon race) February 25th = 1 week transition March 4th = 14 week HIM intermediate plan (couple of sprint triathlons) June 9th = Eagleman 70.3
@Ryan: yes, that sounds like a plan, but with the following notes: • We are changing the OS plan from 20wks to 14wks. Either will work for you, as will the 8wk Get Faster plan. • We will also add some single sport focused plans, bike and run. • I would recommend you pick some running races in those months to keep you focused. Local 5k's to half marathons, anything you want. Keep them cheap, logistically easy to do, etc, but having for real stuff on the calendar will make you more likely to stay focused. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just completed my 2012 "A" race last weekend (Vineman 70.3) & my plan has expired. I try to do my "A" races in June or July, as my work schedule picks up dramatically starting at the very end of July. My work stays extremely busy from that point until February. What happens to me every season is that I get in top-tier physical shape in July and then by February I feel like I've lost all my conditioning, & I'm starting over from scratch! Maybe there is no way around it with my work, but I'd love to be able to build each year & make continued progression. I reviewed the wiki information on the best way to create a plan, & please tell me if you think this makes any sense… Let’s say I make my 2013 "A' race Eagleman 70.3 on June 9th. I was going to treat the rest of this month & August as unstructured training and just workout when I can. On September 1st I would be about 37 weeks out from Eagleman. I was thinking about doing 25 weeks of the "outseason" plan (starting September 1st) & then switch to 12 weeks of the HIM plan. Last year I didn't start using Endurance Nation until January and I used the intermediate plans. I felt like the intermediate plan fit me very well. However in order to squeeze in workouts during my busy work time this year, I was thinking about using the beginner "outseason" plan because the hours are less and more realistic for me to accomplish. Not sure if all that makes since, but basically I'm just trying to figure out how to have some type of structured workout plan in the months from September to February. In the past I've just gone unstructured that entire time period & then started from scratch in January/February area.
Last year I started EN after recovery from IMLP2011. Jumped into the middle of Adv HIM p;an with no problems. This year did 20 week OS then jumped into middle of Adv HIM and could not do 3hour rides with the planned FTP work. couldn't make the jump from 100min hard rides to 180 and never really got it going. I've signed up for IMLP 2013 (my 7th) and want to follow the Master plan. I am worried about jumping into week nine of Adv IM without apropriate build. Should I plan to start IM plan 4 or 5 weeks earlier?
@Robert - I had similar issues this year. Did the November advanced OS, then jumped into the middle of the HIM plan. Was rough. Increased volume was made worse by power and vDot bumps at the end of the OS. Sudden volume jump at higher paces/power did a number on me. In retrospect I should have built up the long ride distance on weekends at the end of the OS, and have since found guidance along those lines in the wiki.
I'm going to close this thread, as I don't want to this to be another place for Macro Thread flavor questions.
It's clear that many members have one foot in '12 and one in '13, are are interested in guidance specific to "what do I do before the start of my '13 OS group?" We already have that, spread out across the site, but we'll consolidate it and get it out to everyone.
However....as the Season Planning Guy charged with keeping you all organized and sane across months and months of training, I would encourage you to not think so much about '13 right now. We have sooooooooooooooooo much time to fix or address that stuff.
