Moo Camp Dates and Hotel Reservations

Hi All,

I'm putting this info in a clean thread so it doesn't get lost.

DATES:

July 8 - 11

I am planning to arrive on the 7th and leaving on the 11th.  I can't stay until Monday. What is everyone else doing?

We're staying at the Clarion Suites. I'm about to book if this is all correct.

  • I believe there's an EN group discount. I booked my room there for $99/night--after I told them I was with EN.

There's also a spreadsheet in the old forum for roommates: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AuTRv6QZuWE-dHJidlBpN0oyeUpHSm5EaV9jY1RGb1E&hl=en

I am arriving on Wednesday, July 7 and leaving on Monday. I haven't booked my flight yet, but seeing how the airlines are with bike boxes, I will more than likely ship my tri-bike there.
  • Sieve brain. I seem to be on constant overload and can't keep anything in my head!

    Now I remember it all.

Done. I am reserved at the Clarion. image

  • For those of you planning to ship your bike via FedEx, UPS, or whatever... If the hotel gives you any hassle regarding shipping your bike to them, or if you just feel more comfortable shipping to someone you (kinda) "know", you are welcome to ship it to my house and I can bring it over to the hotel whenever you get in to town. This applies to the July camp and/or the September race. Just throwing that out there... PM me if you decide you want to do this, so I can give you my address and make sure I know approx when to expect your bike at my house. image
  • Hi Michele!

Pick me! Pick me! image I'll take you up on that offer! Thank you so much!

  • Michele- Me 2 !! Thank you!

  • Good idea! Thank you for the offer! Will need to find out if hotel has an airport shuttle. But it would feel better to ship it to a person, not a place.
  • thanks for this thread. I didn't know there was a spreadsheet or even a hotel picked so now I can act!! I will be driving so don't have exact dates pinned down yet on when I am leaving, but I would guess Sunday
  • I will most likely come for the workouts and social part.  Ive already been to a Rick IM Moo camp so will probably skip classroom.  Will most likely drive up that Friday morning.  Remind me...bike fri and sat?  Run Sun?

Different format. It's an informal "rally." Doubt there's any classroom. Not sure of the schedule, or if it's even set yet. Nemo to the courtesy phone on that one! image It will be great to meet you!

  •  Oh yeah, there's no "class" stuff.  Here's the scoop.  The Cowgirl camp is the same weekend as the  EN Midwest Rally weekend. We all decided to just dovetail our "girls camp" onto the EN Midwest rally so that we could have some access to Coach R&P, play with the boyz when we wanted to, bring significant others (boyz) and not feel guilty about leaving them behind to do girl only stuff!  The EN Rally runs Thurs 7/8 (pm) - Sun 7/11,  but most of us decided we wanted more time and will be coming in on the evening of 7/7 and leaving 7/12 so that we have more time to setup/breakdown, and just enjoy!!!

The EN Rally schedule will look something like this:

    Thursday

PM Arrival, Evening Social, Coaches Talk (Long Course Race Execution stuff)

    Friday

IM Race Sim (ride the Moo course) during the day, then Evening Social stuff & debrief of RR with the coaches

    Saturday

Cool epic ride during the day- probably not on the IM course, then Evening Social and more Coaches Talk on long course training/execution

    Sunday

AM Long run, and swim (if possible).  Camp ends at 12:00pm.

I think for the most part we can do most of this stuff with the boyz- but we'll probably just naturally pull together as one big cowgirl pod! I think what we need to start thinking about is what other "cowgirl" stuff we might want to do on our own.  At one point we were talking about doing a spa afternoon, or touring some FLW architecture, and there was LOTS of talk about amazing food.

And now that y'all mention it- I'm fairly certain I booked a room for Michele & I, but I don't think I have a flight yet!  Guess I need to start thinking about all of that (oh, and shipping Fiona too!).

  • I would love to do a group Pilates/Yoga/stretching class with you chicks!!! like even right after a bike ride or other if we had some mats and a shady spot... just would love to laugh with all of you! I always get the giggles when I fall off the stability ball as the serene music is playing!! or try to be in a good mental spot in Yoga but really start wondering about the rest of the poses and wonder if I can do them!!! just throwing it out there. and then another time we could do a group abs/pushup dealio!! again right after a workout/run thing...
  • Maybe Camp could gave special guest stars?

    1. An ace mechanic to teach us how to MacGyver repairs on the fly? (Like fix a broken spoke, etc.)

    2. John Cobb, so he can design us custom saddles?

    3. Todd the bikefitter? To do last minute tweaks? Bike fittings?

Hmmm, I have a good friend here in Madison who's a bike fitter.  And he's also worked as a mechanic.  I'm sure I could somehow convince him to lend his services to a group of women triathletes!  Wait, maybe that didn't quite sound right...  image

We'll have look elsewhere for the saddle design, though.

  • OK ... I'm stalking the Women's Forum.  Is the Moo camp just for the Chikas? Is there a gender-neutral thread out here?

  • Mike B, yes this is advertised in the camps as a Midwest Rally in July.... so yep mark your calendar!

We won't mind interlopers one bit! Keith was going to come too, but he already knows that's deadline time at work so he won't be able to make it.

  • Mike- I don't know if there's another thread going on the EN Madison Rally yet (the "all gender" rally). The Cowgirl Camp was paired up with the EN Rally so we could play with all you boyz too! I hope lots of you come to the EN Rally!! But we gals know we may want to do some Chica stuff on our own- (like head out for a pedicure or something like that). So we're just using this thread to drum up ideas.

Marianne- I love the Pilates/Yoga idea!!!  Don't we have a few instructors amoungst us?  That would seem like a pretty easy thing for us to put together with our own resources.

On bike fit- I'm wondering if R&P wouldn't mind giving us and our bikes an inspection and providing some recommendations for things to change/modify before race day.   If they ride some of the Friday ride with us-they'd have pleanty of time to give our fit/form a good looksee.

  • Well, I just might be able to be coerced into hosting an EN pilates class while y'all are in town... That would be pretty fun!

Do any EN'ers teach yoga? If not, I know of a couple of yoga instructors in Madison who are also cyclists, so could try to arrange for that as well.
  • I'm out, unfortunately. Sorry to renege on the downhill clinic that I promised you, Linda. I'm bummed that I'll miss this weekend--it sounds like a blast.
  • Bummer! Colleen- you will be missed!
  • aww too bad Colleen.... but great Michele, I was thinking of you so glad you want to!!! and on RnP, would be good if we knew let's just say power numbers for the IMWI course and then see how our first scouting trip power #s stack up.. ie... at what intensity ride at this point and expect hikes here because of XX....in my mind, I wanna see the whole bike course, if two loops then just ride one loop or two depending on my endurance at the time.. and would also like to run for sure mile 18 - 26 of the run.... again loops so great but I like to know mentally that I have already ran the last miles and when with friends I will recall what that felt like and use that on race day, I wanna do an OW swim too and then with any extra time, want the PIlates, yoga, would love to do that outside in the shade somewhere scenic... why would love a massage outside too!! I would love to ride the trickier parts of the course one more time too. wanna go out to eat too of course and what else???? smile. oh group pics too. all the chicas on their bikes with the course in the background.... all of us running, you know like the street is behind and we are all running together side by side..... all of us doing the gang sign, all of us out to eat, swimming, well wetsuits we have talked about are not that attractive but yeah some training shots would be nice. what??? you say pics, yep. I want us to have good memories on the tough parts of the course and then we can replay that on race day and bring a smile inside to us. I want us to stop along the course too... at the funny stuff..... m

    Hey Marianne,

I'm watching the girls thread since we don't have one for the boys yet.

The clarion is actually on the bike course at about mile 2 and 110.  It will be very easy for you guys to see the entire course.

It is about 14 miles to the loop, 42 mile loop (you do it twice on race day), and 14 miles back to the hotel.  So about 70 miles and it is easy to add more without having to do another full loop.  There are at least 4 gas stations I know of on the loop that you can fill bottles at.

The run is a little of a pain to do because it is within a city, but we can point you to a few key places to check out like observatory hill, mile 18, state street, motivational mile and the finish/turn around.  Everything else is pretty boring, except the football stadium which you can only see on race day.

  • perfect!!!! the clarion is in perfect position, nice so those that fly in just need to get the bikes to hotel and we don't have to worry about driving and racking the bikes! sweeet.... okay on run, sounds like trying to run in downtown LR in prep for marathon... we picked early early one morning to go run the course....to avoid the traffic. of course, I have also been known to drive the course, but sounds like a good plan on those highlights you mentioned. Yep I will be at 70 miles by July!! okay we might be able to ride it twice, one each per day.... not sure of the schedule. good on gas stations, that is where we will stop for water/etc. in fact those would be good to mark out which mile # .... and the swimming??? is that open to the public or just on race day? yep I know months away...smile
  • How is everyone shipping their bikes?

  • I believe you can swim in lake monona anytime, however the coruse will not be marked and there can be boats out and people fishing from shore.  Definitely do this in a group, with bight caps, and early if you decide to.

I would not recomend swiming the full actual course, but you can swim along the wall and terrace (but far enough out not to be in the way of the fisherman).  This is the first 800m or so of the course.

I have never done this swim other than during events, but I know many that have without issue.  Just be safe and smart about it.

It's just under a 2 mile run from the Clarion to the swim start and most of it is along the side of the lake on a path.

  • oh okay, we just run over to the lake to swim, cool. okay on the lake, reminds me of the lakes here, okay about just having 800m to swim in....that is the scary part anyways, the beginning!! ha you know what I mean, I like to see the start and then also the finish.... the middle part is just water and feet! so sounds like the hotel is perfectly positioned except for the run part. gina I am driving so taking my bikes that aways.....I think about 11 - 12 hour drive. or we ride over to the swim, swim and then ride! depending on temps of course. July?? how hot is up there? here pretty hot. are we talking wetsuit temps or swimsuit temps? cuz if wetsuit then we gotta drive to lake. sure I could run in a wetsuit, but why??? ha. with a sign on my back "I am a tri geek".... m
  • Nemo in re reading, we can talk setup and schedule but at this point, I don't wanna ride any other roads except for the course... I know the locals might be tired of said course but I wanna see it as much as possible to check out technical stuff and hills and so any extra riding time, I will wanna be on course. gonna be thinking aloud here cuz we also don't want to book too much stuff so some down time is good.......and efficiency with our time, I know you agree so we can iron out the details.. all of us are traveling so a vacation but also a scout trip.
  • Hm. I have some friends who are huge into canoeing and kayaking. Maybe I can find us a guide for our swim?

That would be AWESOME Beth!   The lake swim isn't a big deal (temps are OK and there isn't a current to worry about) but I know folks would like to just check it out before race weekend and the thing that scares me most is a mishap with a boater.

Marianne- I'm pretty sure we'll hit almost everything on your list.!   Personally- I also would be happy just doing the IMoo bike course several times that weekend.  I know the boyz want to do a ride somewhere else that weekend as well- but perhaps that's the day when the IMoo Chica's just decide to do our own thing!

  • That weekend, just point me in a direction, and I will do what anyone tells me. image

I just looked and I am finding direct flights for July and Sept for ~$200! Psych. I think I'll book? Bite nails. image

Re shipping bike--I have NO idea about that. I any paid zip attention to those issues here, since I've only ever used TBT. Starting to research that and will post what I find. I would drive, but it's ~18 hours to Madison. No way.
